I think this, a VX5 3-15 or VX6 3-18, and a case of ammo are the easy button for a great elk rifle. It's probably about 9.5 pounds all up with sling and bipod.
Nice rifle, a little late in the game and price point is comparable to other carbon fiber manufacturers, don’t like the clip not being flush with the stock, Competition is stiff, we’ll see💪🏻💪🏻
I have a Fierce Rogue CT in 7PRC. Weighs 6.9# with the Leupold 4x12 scope. Shoots .5 to .75" groups with eldx and sub moa with the CX ammo. Looking forward to finding some of the Terminal Ascent ammo in 7prc. We are always much slower to get new ammo products up here in Alberta.
@@RustyM80 One of the local stores here has multiple boxes of that ammo, 7PRC, on the shelf. I think it's around $70/box. The Terminal Ascent ammo in 280AI is around $55/box
@@RustyM80 Oh no man, sorry. I'm in Ohio. Yea I wish I knew 20 years ago what I know now. Very doubtful I would have or have ever had a 7RemMag. One rifle builder I use said it's an inefficient cartridge. Now that I have two 280AIs I know what all the talk is about. The 280AI is a truly remarkable cartridge. My next one is more than likely going to be the 270-280AI, also known as the 270 O'Connor. However, I'm still not sure what the difference is between the O'Connor and the 270 Sherman
I wonder how I ever survived hunting Roosevelt Elk and Blacktails for years lugging around an old wood stocked Savage 110 7mm Rem Mag with a Tasco World Class 3X9. No carbon fiber, no detachable box magazine. $2500 is a bit much in my opinion. Don't get me wrong it's a great looking rifle but I'd rather spend my money on the hunt than on the gun. I have had three Savage 110's and all of them have shot under 1" with hand loads so I don't see any reason to spend 3X as much.
Nothing wrong at all with a more traditional hunting rifle. I've hunted with a 1970's Parker Hale in 30-06 for years and it's extremely accurate. But, as mentioned, when you shoulder and fire these newer rifles (I've chambered and built a few for myself) it's a different ball game in terms of feel and function. Btw, I still grab that old Parker Hale first to go hunt with.
@@HoffnerPrecision I just bought a Savage 110 VSX HUNTER XP that came with a Vortex Diamondback 4-12X40 scope for $850. It has full cerakote, fluted and threaded barrel, camo synthetic stock with adjustable length of pull and adjustable trigger. I got mine in .243 since I only hunt whitetail and hogs these days but it comes in several calibers for that price including 7mm PRC. When I bought my others in the early 90s they were a little under $400 without a scope. They were just basic wood stocks, no hinged floor plate or anything which wasn't a big deal with the three way safety for unloading. They shot great and carrying them on long hikes was never a problem.
Currently in the market for a rifle in this price range in 7 PRC. Between this and the Weatherby 307 alpine Ct and the Fierce Carbon Rogue is there one us there one yall would take over the other or are they all pretty similar?
Is this barrel affixed with a nut so you can switch it out at home after it's burnt out in the1000-2000 round range? If it's 300 prc 2000 round count wouk be lucky. I don't care how great the short life magnum barrel is if it's a PIA to change. No comptent gun smiths anywhere even remotely close to me. Have no doubt it's a great action, barrel and stock but I'd rather it be a ot cheaper than getting a second "free" rifle. Thanks for the great content, very knowledgeable and entertaining.
Thats a good looking rifle but it would be a great looking rifle with a hinged floor plate or at least a flush box magazine. The old Browning A-bolt with removable box magazine was/is awesome in my opinion. Great for a hunting rifle where carrying, loading and unloading often is the norm.
Springfield actually just came out with the model 2020 with a hinged floorplate and a more traditional stock. Same action and barrel, but if you're interested in a more traditional design with the Waypoint that'd be the way to go!
I bought one week or so ago and I was extremely shocked at Springfield QC. This rifle (in 7 PRC) was nothing like the 6.5 PRC. The bolt is totally different and feels terrible. The barrel was touching the stock as well, like everything was bent. I was not going to accept it at the FFL but I just got this order in before this communist CA 11% tax. So I accepted it and will be sending back to Springfield. I really hope I don't regret this and they take care of the barrel and sandy, grundy bolt feel. Edit : and yes I did get the rim fire, Springfield shipped it damn near same day, but I certainly would not call it "beautifully built". The moa of 1" at 50yrds is not impressive and not many are getting it even with top shelf rim fire ammo. But I suppose you can't expect much from Turkish builders. Great video, hope to see one on a Hera H7 some day
Hmm... That's too bad! Our sample does have some play when the bolt contacts the metal magazine, causing it to be less smooth than some others. I hope that you get those issues fixed!
just because I've had such a long love affair with the .280 Ackley, I'd pick it. but the 7mm PRC is likely a more practical option because it's now so common.
No 280 AI? Bummer, because i know that is what you prefer. Free rimfire rifle, huh? Translation: they aren't selling, so let's incentivize our expensive rifle with one. Looks like a nice rifle, but i am not sold on the carbon fiber sleeve or wrap. Adds probably $500 to the price. A good strong carbon fiber stock is always nice, so there is that. But they are expensive too. The only PRC vartridge that interests me is the 6.5, mainly because i might get into conpetition with it. I am not crazy about detachable mags either. I trnd to prefer hinged floorplate like you. At keast this one is solid metal. I will never own a rifle like this, unless i win 6 figures in the lottery i never play. And if i did ein a chunk of money, i would probably go the semi custom route (using an existing action, not built from scratch). 280 AI and 35 Whelen cone to mind.....😁. But i would have to get seriously into hunting first.
I think the same gun in 7 mag with the 8 twist from which they sell would be the best gun. Other channels has already proven with 160 CX 7 mag is 150fps faster. Better hit probability.
Probably a very nice rifle, but some of us still remember when Springfield supported gun control legislation in their own state. I’ll never own one or allow one in my shop.

I think a video of all the 7 PRCs in this price range would be cool...
Good idea!
A great idea! Maybe the Springfield 2020 vs weatherby 307 alpine CT vs X bolt with McMillan stock?
I have one of those in 6.5 PRC and it shoots great even with basic factory ammunition.
Nice rifle, heard good things about them. Wish it came in 280Ai
You can get a Fierce Carbon Rogue for around 1800.00 in 280AI, very similar rifle

Thanks JVB! I look forward to hearing how it shoots.
As a writer, I requested one in 7PRC in May. They must be flying off the shelves because I was just told mine wouldn’t ship until early August!
Very nice rifle, glad they are offering some long action calibers now.
Have 2 Weatherby 30-378s with BSF barrels and they are both shooting under half inch groups with factory ammo.
I mostly shoot rimfire but I love listening to these videos
Thanks for watching!

These rifles are just really ergonomic, have a smoother action and are lighter than the 110's. Those Savages can be great shooters though!

My 7prc is hard to get magazine out when.u.close bolt rubs on feed lips any one else having this problem
Mine is the same way. It feels like it is getting a bit easier with use but it is stubborn for sure.

Why would you introduce a rifle chambered in .270 Winchester with 1:10 twist?
Very expensive here in Oz. But a nice gun.
Sleeved barrel? Does that mean there is Air Gap between Carbon Fiber and the metal barrel?
indeed it does.
U can get it in metal also...100 cheaper i got carbon.2k
