From what I've heard, PTX got the ultimate compliment when, before he passed away, Leonard Cohen (who wrote "Hallelujah") watched and heard this video and stated that it was the best version of his song he'd ever heard. Considering that everybody and their brother has covered this song, that's a hell of a compliment.
He also allowed contemporary Christian singer/guitar shredder Lincoln Brewster to add some verses and call it "Another Hallelujah" which has even deeper Christian meaning to it. Lincoln performs it at Bayside Church in CA where he is a worship pastor and yes that is Lincoln on the shredding lead guitar! Here is a lyric video ua-cam.com/video/_kvuIPwvqpw/v-deo.html There is another that actually has Lincoln talking about writing a letter to Leonard and getting his blessings!

Pentatonix does what I think is the greatest version of this song. It doesn't give me a Christmassy feeling.... it's a song that I can enjoy every day of the year.
KD Lang’s version is the most amazing. Each hallelujah is different and creates a different feel. One of the all time best musical performances of all time!

I think a large majority of reactors do that in case of copyright so I don't mind. But yeah I agree I like it when people play through the whole thing before talking on it.
An introduction to Pentatonix for you: Scott: the tall blonde guy in the middle with the first solo. He's the baritone of the group but has a range of about 4 octaves. He's just as comfortable harmonizing on the high notes as he is taking the bass line when Avi is singing. Speaking of which... Avi: the guy with the beanie and the second solo. He's an amazing bass and doesn't have many solo parts but he always kills it when he does sing. He left the group in 2017 on good terms with the rest of the members and helped find his replacement, Matt. Kirstin: the only female in the group, she had the third solo. She has the least solos of the main 3 that you'll find, but she always kills it when she does sing(examples are Say Something, Sound of Silence, Imagine, Can You Feel the Love Tonight, all of which are among their best work) Mitch: He's the man with the amazing voice and the final solo in this song. He's a counter tenor, and has a purely angelic voice. Kevin: an AMAZING beatboxer, that's his main role, but he occasionally shows off his beautiful tenor voice (Imagine is a great example) and his skills with the cello, which he can play while beatboxing simultaneously. Pentatonix got their start on an old competition show called the Sing Off where acapella groups competed against each other for a $200,000 cash prize and a recording contract. Scott, Kirstin, and Mitch sang in choir together in school and have been best friends since they were teenagers. They found Avi through a friend and Kevin through one of his "cello boxing"(playing the cello and beatboxing) videos that went viral. They won the competition, you can still find the performances on UA-cam. It's amazing to watch them grow throughout the show. Unfortunately, the record label dropped them shortly after they moved out to make music, so they persevered and self produced for a while until they were picked up by another label. They are the only acapella group to ever win a Grammy, and they have won 3: for their Daft Punk medley, Dance of the Sugar Plum Fairy, and Jolene ft. Dolly Parton. They're an amazing group, every one of them is one of the most talented singers in the world, and they have never released a bad song imo. Welcome my friend, a wonderful world of musical bliss awaits.

Their version of Sound of Silence is beautiful but, shockingly enough, I also love the version by Disturbed. Only song I like from that group but David Draiman can sing!!
I LOVE this song and the fact that they weren't interrupted every 10 seconds - made it that much better! I loved watching the reaction on the face of the "professional singer"! IT just doesn't get much better (EVER)!
Barry, welcome to the Pentatonix world. I'm soooo pleased to see you jump into this water as well. They've been around almost a decade, largely doing covers, but their own work is exceptional as well, and they can do a mashup that'll blow your socks off just with the intricacies of the harmonies and changes. This song includes Avi Kaplan singing those glorious bass notes (shivers every time) and he's since left the group and has wonderful music on his own. Future catalog suggestions: Imagine, Home (a mashup of numerous songs), Bohemian Rhapsody, and you'll love all their holiday remakes around Christmas. They're amazing. Wonderful to see your reaction to them, and yes, I've yet to see a truly bad performance from them. Cheers. PS, since you recently reviewed Dolly's "Jolene," worth noting that they did a version with her that won a Grammy for best country duo or group. Amazing.
I get the feeling the Pentatonix world is a wonderful place to be. I’m so pleased to have discovered them and I can’t wait to get all Christmasy with them. Dolly and the Pentatonix must be unbelievable 👍
It's me Barry they are the most successful acapella group in history. This video has had 500+ million views. They do a mix of amazing covers (their breathtaking cover of “Mad World” came out today!), and original songs. Check their history. Suffice it to say. It’s taken a whole lot of work for them to perfect their craft. So much work that the bass, Avi Kaplan,( long dark hair and beard) found the routine of arranging-rehearsing-recording-touring was daunting, since his mom was ill. He amicably left the group in the fall of 2017, and helped them find his replacement, Matt Sallee, (a graduate of the Berkelee College of Music in Boston, with a degree in Vocal Performance!) They have millions of albums sold worldwide; their videos have gotten 6 BILLION views on UA-cam, and they have millions of followers (including me)! Scott Hoying (baritone, tall blond) and Mitch Grassi (counter tenor, a visual chameleon of sorts-he ALWAYS looks different!) were childhood friends. They met Kirstin Maldonado (mezzo-soprano)in high school. They decided to audition for a singing talent show on NBC called “The Sing-Off” in Fall 2011-so they found Avi through a friend (he’s opera-trained, a true basso PROFUNDO), and Kevin Olusola (beatboxer extraordinaire; speaks fluent Mandarin, is a master cellist, and had just graduated from Yale University, headed to medical school!) on UA-cam. (Where he was CELLOBOXING, a combo of beatboxing and playing cello!) They all met the day before the audition. And they WON the competition. They got a recording contract-all moved to LA, and lost that contract-the label said acapella wouldn’t “sell”...OOPS on that! They started making UA-cam videos, and developing a fan base. They made a “Daft Punk Medley” video for $400, and filmed it with an iPad in a kitchen closet. That arrangement and recording won them their first Grammy. They then got another recording contract. And have been full-steam ahead ever since. They now have THREE Grammys. Not bad for music that “won’t sell”! I’d check out their older material, but also some newer tracks. They have a new original song, “Happy Now”...and an older original that’s my favorite is “Run to You” (written by Avi and Kevin). We PTX fans are PENTAHOLICS! Everyone was sad when Avi left, but Matt Sallee has done a stellar job in the three years he’s been singing bass with them. Avi has his own solo music now; Mitch and Scott have their own duo “SuperFruit”; Kirstin has been on Broadway in “Kinky Boots” and Kevin has HIS own solo (fantastic talent) stuff. It’s an enormous body of work in 9 years. That’s why we Pentaholics call it a “rabbit hole” for PTX on UA-cam. This was done in 2016. By the way, it’s wonderful that this moved you so deeply. PTX sounds EXACTLY the same in concert-I’ve seen them twice now-check out their LIVE version of “Hallelujah” they did for their 2016 Christmas special. Sounds. Exactly. The. Same!!

As soon as I saw your face I knew that you were from over the pond! ✌️❤️😎
Absolutely beautiful... ❤
What a magnificent a capella performance! Pure perfection! Maravilloso! Bravo!
No matter how many times I hear them sing that it gets to me every time. Absolutely the best I've ever heard it sung. Thank you for bringing it to us. 😊
Although beautiful, Leonard Cohen never said that about Pentatonix being the best version - he said that about Jeff Buckley.
Loved to see the shear admiration of Barry of the beautiful harmony of Pentatonix. Like to see his comment on their cover of ´Say something´.
Look at you over TWO MILLION views; Oh, Barry!
4:04 "Listen" Absolutely love this.
The raw emotion on their faces just makes this that much better.
Indeed, the BEST VERSION. I could listen to it over and over and over - and I do. It is so beautiful.
Happy to hear you agree with me.😁
Hallelujah is the highest praise you can give God.
The depth of their voices is incredible. It touches my heart every time I hear them. This is my favorite.
I've seen this video of Pentatonix many times as they have so many beautiful songs. Don't forget to watch! xx
ive listened to this song 1 million times and still cry
Played this at my brothers funeral. Not a dry eye in the house by the end of it.
This is such a beautiful cover of Hallelujah, it definitely makes me feel Christmassy!💜😊🎄🎁🎅🏻🦌🛷
When your voice is an instrument you don't need any other. PTX could probably sing any song in history. They are that amazing!
Their voices...all of them are like a balm that soothes the soul, and broken pieces of what we all have right now .....I love Pentatonix
Thanks so much for being the first reactor that has allowed this song to play all the way through and withholding their reactions until the end. That took a certain type of respect and a certain knowing and wisdom to recognize that you just don't interrupt a song like this. Once again, thank you.
a broken hallelujah is the greatest expression of faith and love in God ..the purest Truth from the greatest loss and heartache
I still cry. Every time I hear this song.
It choked a man.... I'm not surprised, because their performance is stunning 💥 I'm addicted to this song 🤯
I want this played at my funeral, this version.
Every time I hear Hallelujah by Pentatonix, it gives me chills.
WOW one cannot listen to this and not have tears. WOW, just WOW!
Congratulations to Scott and Mark! Beautiful wedding, beautiful couple. ❤❤
Best wishes to a future filled with love!!!! 🎉
I CRY when I hear them....Voices so clear and PURE...And THE MIX of folks..THE RANGE!!....AMAZING!!!!!!!!!!!!
Hey bud I'm glad you enjoyed it. There is a lot more Pentatonix for you to discover.
hi Sean. Thanks a million for your wonderful support 👍
@@ItsmeBarry Do you know how you can tell you've done a good Pentatonix reaction, Barry? You have a comment from Sean?????. 🤣
@@rebeccafrost7731 really? I’m honoured. He seems like a nice, friendly guy👍
Yep you got Sean’s stamp of approval! Congrats!! Pentaholics are a loyal bunch!
@@rebeccafrost7731 Thank you Rebecca ...
When you come to this Earth and do what you are supposed to do with your God given talent you will touch unknown number of people. Thank you.
Such a genuine & wonderful reaction. More power to you Barry. Its nice meeting you.
Egal wie oft ich es höre immer wieder gut und beruhigend. Danke Pentatonix
I had exactly the same reaction. Tears filled my eyes with every segment from these singers. And when the young man sang an even higher range that the wonderful female singer...I was gobsmacked.
Music can touch us. It’s a wonderful thing. Thank you for sharing.
Actually it's called being "Mitch Slapped", a term coined by Pentaholics......
you would love their cover of the sound of silence or imagine!
Hi Grace, they are two beautiful songs and two of my favourites. I can’t wait to hear how they perform them. Thanks a million for watching. I hope you will join me when I react to every single song and every different performance by this incredible group 👍
The word Hallelujah will break the strongest back
Their version of Sound of Silence is beautiful but, shockingly enough, I also love the version by Disturbed. Only song I like from that group but David Draiman can sing!!
I LOVE this song and the fact that they weren't interrupted every 10 seconds - made it that much better! I loved watching the reaction on the face of the "professional singer"! IT just doesn't get much better (EVER)!
Thanks Scott, I appreciate that.
Sir, you have the look of someone slain in the spirit! They are amazing indeed!
Of all the influencers I have loved your reaction to PTX more than any other. Barry, you are a legend. Hugs and all the best.
I am glad the Barry Bus 🚌 took a diversion to see Pentatonix
me too! Thanks a million 👍
I AGREE. PENTA TONIC SCALE. WE REMEMBER WE ARE SPIRITUAL BEINGS. THOSE BEAUTIFUL COMBO OF VOICES TOUCHES OUR SOUL
Hello joan
How are you doing today ?
@@ItsmeBarry the Christmas stuff is amazing
Sounds. Exactly. The. Same!!
@@drieuxkoeppel8152 This is an exciting time for me. I have an amazing group to discover and lots of new friends to make. Thank you SO much for the amazing info 👍
Ofra Cohen I just quoted what Scott said in concert, before they did DAFT PUNK. I stand corrected. Thanks.
This is the video that introduced you, Barry, to me eight months ago. You have taught me how to enjoy music at a deeper level. I am forever grateful for your expertise and willingness to share. 😊
I’m very grateful that this video brought you into my life too.
Just the most amazing harmony, could almost make me a believer, again,
No instruments....I get goosebumps and cry EVERY SINGLE TIME!!@!
Oh...wait until you hear “Mary Did You Know?” I cry every time! Even when it’s the tenths time in a row listening too it!
Me too. Hallelujah; Mary, Did You Know; Carol of the Bells. Goosebumps & tears everytime.
Wow! First time listening to Pentatonix! I'm finding it difficult what words to describe their performance. Ahh! Magnificent!!
They really are the most beautiful sounding group I have ever heard! Pure music!
I think you should check out Pentatonix's cover of John Lennon's, "Imagine."
Haven't heard that one it's not on spotify, guess i must check it out on youtube

Bruh.... they’ve been making me cry for years
Pentatonix is a demonstration of how if people are willing to work together they can create something bigger than any could create by themselves.
I don't know them either. I saw their Christmas CD in the store but I didn't know them. This is one of my ultimately fav songs. It was fantastic.
This group is clearly blessed by God's grace in many many ways! Amen 😇
