‘The detailed way Prof Tom breaks down his moves into the absolute essentials is just next level for me. This is absolute gold‘ - Sydney, Australia
‘Most of the guys at my Academy, have about 60lbs on me, but since purchasing your ‘Kimura Attack system’ and ’14 days’ everything has changed. I feel much more confident, roll better and the guys on the mat have commented on the same. Thanks, Coach Tom’ - Dallas, TX
‘I know you have your names for your courses, but I’ve renamed them the ‘Zero to hero’ courses, I went from getting constantly owned, to now being completely dominant on the mat in no time at all’ - San Diego, California
‘I use the course material heaps, and just recently put it into action at a local comp, walked away with double gold. No one was more surprised than me! - Miami, Florida
‘As a new white belt, these classes have helped me so much, Prof Tom’s technique, the details, and his attitude. I love how Prof. Tom shows the ‘mistakes people make’ and then shows the correct way of doing things. The only one I have ever seen do this’ - New York, New York
Great videos, great instruction. I just watch them for hours…Melbourne, Australia
‘The instructional saved me big time at a recent comp, my opponent was def more experienced, but that was ok, coz I had Prof Tom’s video in my brain. Nailed it and scored gold’ - Colorado, Denver
‘All of it. Everything you show in your awesome videos are now my ‘go to techniques’. Thanks for your vids Prof, Tom’ - Houston, TX
‘You really have to watch every second of the video because Prof, Tom drops these little nuggets of gold throughout the course. And they make ALL the difference. The only one doing this. Keep them coming Professor’ - NY, New York
‘If I could only be taught from one person, Prof Tom would be it. I can’t wait to train in person one day’ - Dallas, TX
‘Went to a recent competition with these videos fresh in my mind. I knew I had an edge and the confidence this gave me was unreal. Got the gold. All submission wins! - LA, California

Awesome. This was another one of those, "oh, that's what I should have done.." videos for me.

Just used this adjustment to side control in class and my training partner told me it was the best pressure he's ever felt from me. He told me he hated being there, which I took that as a compliment!

I've watched a lot of your videos. This is the best one yet in my opinion. Side control domination.

Writing from México. Greetings professor. I support the idea of a video explaining how to keep mount position. Also, a single video explaing some examples of submissions being in opponent's close guard. Thank you and congratulations!

Good video, now I got a good understanding of what to do in side control. Control the hip with hip on hip, hand on hip or knee on hip and focus on driving your pressure into your opponent with your balls of feet

I think one of the big issues a lot of people have is they think of side control and mount and back control as being 1 position, but then they also accept the fact that there are dozens of guards... You can't just be satisfied with holding side control, you need to adjust and adapt according to how your opponent responds. You've got to be willing to sacrifice side control if necessary to make sure you don't get put in a butterfly guard.

Great stuff. Can you do one about maintaining mount? That's where I really struggle.

      Me too!
I’ve made a little check list from my own experience.
      1. Squeeze your knees
      2. Curve your spine. Think about how hard it is to lift a limp body opposed to a hard board
      3. They need space to make things happen. Slide your knees under their armpits to prevent this.
      4. Be fluid be ready to shift your weight as needed or even to your feet and switching to other top position. Instead of being put back in their guard or worse being swept

@2:35: This seems to give Reese an easy opportunity to snag Tom's right leg for half guard.

    • @jacobday3826
      @jacobday3826 3 роки тому

You would be right except he mentions that he applies pressure to the head, which puts the spine in a compromised position if he attempts to reguard for half.
A lot of side control is spine control, which happens by either controlling their hips, or controlling their head, that's why you'll see a lot of good side control players using a strong "shoulder of justice" (as my gym likes to call it).

I'm a white belt and my instructor is always telling me to stay on my knees in side control. But this is the third video I've watched that discourages this. What's his rationale, if any?
