Painting the image of God through his fingertips. Had the privilege of attending more than one live concert. Had an amazing impact on me as a teenager and young man
George, may you rest in peace just as how you always brought peace to me with your gorgeous piano playing. I will always cherish the albums you've done with Windham Hill. So sad to hear of your passing, 2 days late, but you have done well in coloring my world with the beauty of your music. In fact, Colors is what started my discovery of you. Live on forever in your music, giant!
I was 13 when I heard I this over the radio. Immediately I went into our town's small record store. I did not have George Winston's name so I had to explain to the owner what I was looking for . He knew. The man went and picked out the album. I was thrilled that I found it and could not wait till I shared my find with my dad, who was a musician in his own right. That was decades ago and one of my favorite memories looking back. George is the only musician I ever went to see when he played in San Francisco.
My mom had liked to listen george winston's music when she was pregnant me. And i watched the news as winston passed away. It can't be so sad the musician i was with when i was born has left to heaven.
Had the pleasure of meeting him in Lubbock, Texas in 1986 while a student at Texas Tech University. Will never forget that night of great music and the cute date I had for the concert. I still play his music and emulate him on the piano. RIP…..you brought smiles to millions! And still do!
Artists SEE where they are going, even it it doesn't make sense to anyone else. Music is the only artform that can transform an entire crowd at once. You know this if you've ever attended a concert of any quality. Thousands become captivated by sounds they can't understand or recreate.
2-5-2024--I just found out you have passed from the Grammies 2024 I am listening to on my phone. Thank you George! We "C.Rider" Dance Company danced to this piece in our dance company headed by Mary Seereiter in the 80's We were an "eclectic" dance company from LCC (Lane Community College) in Eugene, Oregon and we danced this in so many shows and performances all over Oregon. Your heavenly music gave us so much joy and spread love to so many. God bless! I love you! xoxoxox
When i married back in '92, my wife walked down the aisle with her father as this song began to play. It was our favorite new age song. I first heard it while working a new age/soft jazz program at 6X-FM, Fanshawe College in the summer of '88. Loved all George's music. Thanx for the incredible post!!!
He hates being called new age. Why wouldn't he? It's a bit like calling mainstream rock "Satan music". Sure, maybe that's what some people associate it with, but that's their issue, not the artist's. He or the other people who got tarred with the label weren't any more into "new age religion" than other musicians at the time, often a lot less (remember Beatles' adoration of Maharishi Manesh Yogi? Or Jimi Hendrix portrayed as a psychedelic Vishnu on the cover of Axi: Bold as Love?). But what they were, were independently published, as mainstream labels thought solo instrumental music would never sell. Because they were small and competed with the big labels, they couldn't get distribution in record stores, and had to sell in unconventional places like independent bookstores. When some of Winston's records in particular were huge economic successes, the major labels wanted to get in on it, but they still held it in scorn, so they associated it with the "new age" articles independent bookstores often also sold. That is why psychedelic English folk-prog like Tubular Bells, and heavily synth-based continental European music also got associated with "new age". They have nothing to do with the American instrumental tradition George Winston is in (or much to do with each other) but they were also scorned by big labels and denied mainstream distribution. You had to go to the weird bookshops to get those too, in the US.
Melodic by heavenly bounds George Winston has gifted the planet with 🎵🎵🎶🎶 a large beautiful range of chords with deep level s of enchanting humans to know Music is medicine
I love George's music. I saw him perform live at The Neal Blaisdell Center Concert Hall in Honolulu circa 1992. The evening was sublime. His work was enchanting. That evening he also played ki ho 'alu on his eight string acoustic. I'm guessing the song may have been Kalena kai. Does any else remember that concert?
The time I saw him play this, he climbed inside the piano and played the strings. It was the neatest thing! He knows the piano and he knows nature and he blends them perfectly
I first heard this song in the Bodhi Tree Bookstore in L.A. i feel in love. My Sister bought me the cassette. I've been playing this song many times. I thank u for this song. It really moves me.
@@kelvinhopkins3000 My cassette collection features three Winston's tapes. I've been listening to them since my early adolescence, by the time a 1998's Pioneer cassette deck was given to me. 💙
PBS Winnipeg used to start their broadcasting day with a vintage black and white video with this song as the background. I have not heard this song since I was about 4 years old. I actively started searching for it not knowing the artist or title for about 5 years now. Just having the melody stuck in my head. I'm 37 now and finally just found it today. Just ordered the Lp on ebay, and can die now......lol! What an exhausting search with nothing to go on........
I am blessed to know such a great pianist..for 30 years I have listened in awe and admiration..helped me through a lot. Indeed music like this is the ultimate therapy for the soul. As many wrote here. It's my favourite
still stunning to me. Perhaps one of the most beautiful piano melodies ever written. Stays in my head, have to revisit. Listen for yourself, this is unbelievable.
Watching him play in person was awesome....I remember when he came on stage casually dressed and in his stocking feet, the audience didn't know it was him......and then, he started playing.
I had the same experience! Went to see him while visiting southern California years ago, and he was most of the way to the piano before anybody realized it was him.
Super performance by a very skilled player! Tough to get that "emotional sparkle" the way he does. Listen to this and look at fall colors of trees changing in the Rockies. Epic.
Just saw him last night, he's long since dropped the ponytail, but he's still as talented and evocative as ever. Played this beauty with an extended ending where he drew out the last few high notes for what felt like several minutes longer than normal, it was very unique. Really glad I could go!
Beautiful! They used to play his music on KFUO Classic 99 in St. Louis. Then the Lutheran church sold the station!!!!! Thanx pal and God bless you. Bob
Many thanks from Costa Mesa what an amazing artist that man is had a chance to see him on the UCLA campus I do believe we underpaid because ago wow that was so brilliant thank you very much from Costa Mesa California
His left hand work is very notable; very fluid, accurate and fully interacting with his right hand in such a way as to become more than mere accompaniment but blends in as a force of its own.

I have listened to this for 4 decades and never tire of it
So beautiful it makes me cry. What a blessing your music has been to me, RIP.

Likewise, I heard his music and it touches you in your soul. I was too young to buy his music but years later I found many albums in resale shops.

Rest in peace Mr. Winston. Thank you for everything.
