  • Red Snapper are a great species to fish for and are among the most popular reef fish in the United States. That are very important both to commercial and recreational anglers. Big red snapper put up a great fight, and they taste excellent. Many restaurants charge big bucks for cooking you a fillet of red snapper in one of their recipes.
    In this video, I will discuss what a newbie will need to know before going out to target red snapper. The When, Where, and How of Snapper fishing.

    What size leader do you recommend in 100+ foot of water? Bottom fishing. Mono or floro? Thanks.

    • @HeadFirstFishing
      @HeadFirstFishing  5 років тому

      Mono works great. You can use anything from 50 to 80 with no problems usually. If the fish are being unusually picky, try a smaller leader. That giant in the video was caught using wire leader though.

    Should do a demonstration on how to vent the fish as well, that’s just as important as catching them

    I installed the Navionics app (with free trial) but it doesn't show all the depth contours you were seeing. Did you purchase an additional map from within the app? If so, which one?

    What leader you starting out with? 80lb? Do you bother with expensive flouro at this point or just a high quality mono leader material in 60-80-100lb test?

    • @HeadFirstFishing
      @HeadFirstFishing  4 роки тому +1

      Fluoro is unnecessary for red snapper IMO. Yes anything between 50 to 80 works good.

    Do you use knocker rigs? If so when you hit bottom, do you leave bait at weight or feed some slack?

    • @HeadFirstFishing
      @HeadFirstFishing  4 роки тому

      Traditionally I use a fishfinder rig for red snapper but a knocker can work.

    • @HeadFirstFishing
      @HeadFirstFishing  4 роки тому

      I keep the weight felt on the rod tip.

    Why are sea bed areas key to finding natural reefs?

    • @HeadFirstFishing
      @HeadFirstFishing  3 роки тому +1

      They give you clues about bottom composition and plant/coral growth.

    I'm just starting to fish, what is venting?

    • @HeadFirstFishing
      @HeadFirstFishing  3 роки тому

      Venting is the deflating fish's swim bladder which expands too much when brought up too quickly.
