Like my dad taught me: "First you must learn and practice the basics....". This principle is to be applied to any undertaking, from wrestling to mountain climbing to cooking. Only by learning and mastering the basics can one go beyond into more complex undertakings
Man I love this. Such a huge help, thanks for telling us to improve tempo, if you always practice at 100 bpm you probably won’t be able to do 180+ bpm.
It’s fun to play 1 line with the feet at 16th notes while playing another line simultaneously with the hands at 32nd notes. Excellent for building independence and coordination.
Great video! One thing I haven't seen anyone talk about is open and closed style, starting very slowly and gradually moving to top speed and back down again. I just started this today and it definitely points out a lot of flaws in my playing. I think you demonstrate this often but never go into detail about it. Just a thought! You're the best!
Great lesson. Really like how you have the practice bass pad - and bringing in the practice ride cymbal. I have no doubt that Mr. Stone and Mr. Morello are looking down, smiling.. Also, nice to see Gary Chester's book on the stand behind you.
I just watched a video of you at drumeo studios where you talked about being labeled as "other" than a drummer. Was very impressed with your playing on the kit they had there. I have watched numerous drumming vids, but first time seeing you. I'm just a 50 year old, self taught, hobbyist, boot drummer! would love to take lessons from you if you were here in Texas. Thanks
Your thw drumeo lady!!!! Gurl!!!! You did a break down of travis barkers drumming and i haven't gotten you off my mind ever since!!! Im a female drummer of 21 years and am not nearly as good as you are..(yet) i been looking for some of your videos amd finally found them!❤
Hi Thank you! You need to go to my TikTok and Instagram page @taylor.dorothea. That’s where most of my videos are. p.s., I do t usually answer that fast but I just saw it pop in as I was checking g my emails.
@dtdrummerlady now we're best friends, you gotta reply every time now! Lol jk but I just followed you on IG. Also fellow female drummer here! 20 years, been playing since age 10!
Thats great if you’re already fast with hands. It doesn’t help someone starting out to show how fast everyone (who can already play) can play. I was hoping there’d be more basic lessons/help for people in the early stages. 🤷🏻♀️
I understand what you’re saying. This was just a video for students who have the book but don’t understand fully how important it is to spend hours of practice on these stickings so that it WILL improve your hand speed as a drummer.

Not sure I have this right but is the message that instead of doing 8 notes at say 120 and build up from there you should do 16th notes at 60 and build up from there. I had assumed that as the book is organised around 8th notes I should use 8th notes for the metronome
It’s written with cut time noted. Beginners usually start with them played as 8th notes. As you get faster you should set the met at 16ths or just as quarter notes with each note getting 4 16ths.
@@dtdrummerlady Could you explain what cut time actually means, please? Pardon my ignorance. I've heard the term used but never seen/heard an explanation of it. Thanks. Great lesson, by the way.
@Dorothea Taylor Dtdrummerlady I've come too far for that. I just need to get use to the sticking. I've got the paradiddle up to 180 so I know I can get it. Thank you for all the video uploads. I really appreciate it
@Dorothea Taylor Dtdrummerlady so...after watching your lesson on Drumeo I have learned I indeed can NOT do a paradiddle at 180 lol I did not realize the diddle had to be complete in one metronome click. Good news is I'm officially a lifetime member of drumeo now lol I'll get it one day.
You know the saying “Rome Wasn’t Built In A day” ……. building speed takes TIME. Be patient and spend quality time everyday with your practice sessions.

Very good advice that can be applied to anything you want to get better at

This. This is the video that just leveled me up.

Best book for hands and double bass or bass drum in general. Page 9 is my favorite

Very nice. Too much to ask for a grip/stroke technique video?
Victor Boliviet I may just do that. Have had several people ask about it. Thanks

Haha I"m at a whopping 44 bpm...
I get to exercise 6 and it's all downhill from there.
Oh no! Don’t give up 😊

@@insertmetalusernamehere Yes 👍 you know now that it takes time and persistence but you can do it. 😊
This is wrong - move them around the kit when you reach 180! What?! It will take 1-2 years or even more to take paradiddles to 180.
