It is a single player game with co-op, it is not a live service game so dont expect "MMO"-likeness. You buy the game and you get the full experience, no DLC that you have t wait for, for 6 months in order to get a "complete" game. Maybe in the future there will be expansions packs. As the game is now, there will be hundreds of hours of content and people will be playing this for years just like with DoS2 and the Pathfinder games, it is a DnD game afterall so the replay-ability will be huge
Hope we do get a expansion of some sort down the road that pushes the lvl cap to 20 (currently 12) coz there are some really cool spells and class abilities that we won't get to use with the current cap
@@SywoSan The pvp idea might have merit (it is usually not something you get in single player games) but it could be implemented in a narrative way that if you reach the city of Baldur´s Gate and there is an arena where "gladiators can test their mettle" then, yes, it could work.

You should look into Divinity: Original Sin 1 & 2 if you really liked this game. It offers some of the same combat mechanics and environmental interactions to take advantage of. Larian Studios know how to make complex and replayable RPG experiences.
Doing a comparison between a turn base RPG vs an action base RPG is pointless. That's equivalent to comparing chess vs checkers. Not saying one is better than another...just not the same games.
Tbh I like games like cRPG where I have a lot of to do, awesome story and companions, without grinding fiesta and balance thing. Maybe Im older, but I will spent thousands of hours in BG3 because I know Larian and how big replayability this game will have and later ( or on release) we should get editor to make our own campaigns and play with friends. Truly big game will come
Dungeon crawling is a thing in D&D and other paper and dice RPGs (as BG in reality is) in hope that you find that +1 or +2 armour, that cloak that makes you a shapeshifter, or that weapon that has magical dmg as well as physical dmg. And on the other part, learning the importance of identitying magical gear before using them, in case by they are cursed (for instance 2 handed sword +3, but with blind Berserkr curse (yes attacking friends is a thing 😅))
I played BG1 and BG2 to death as a teenager. BG3 coming out after all these years is a dream come true. BG3 will be an epic game, it will be the best RPG ever made to date, and one of the best videogames of all time. It will be wonderful for everyone that enjoys a good story and specially tailoring the story around your own decisions. However, BG3 is not an MMORPG. There is no competition, only cooperation between players. It requires a lot of progress (hours) to level up at any level. It is not a game for text/cinematics skippers or people that see videogames as a race (like it happens on MMOs). BG3 will be almost perfect for DnD fans and enthusiasts, for singleplayer TRPG players and even for people who like to play cooperatively, it will not be very satisfying for competitive gamers.

I'd love to see a Sywo Let's play series of BG3 :D I think the developers have put in the passion and love in to this game BG3 in a way that is rare to see in the industry these days :) and for Sywo to play this game would be a perfect moment of "genuine and passionate player" meets "genuine and passionate game" - honestly .. it would just make me happy :)
Unless Starfield crashes and burns like Cyberpunk or Fallout 76, it'll probably win Game of the Year because Popularity Contest. But I think we all know Baldur's Gate 3 will be one of the greatest games ever made.

Hey Sywo, look into the Evoker subclass for Wizard. It allows you to use big AoE spells like Fireball and party members will not take any damage! This game as a LOT of depth to its combat system.
According to people that played the Full game in the last PFH, there's single pieces of gear that would make new builds completely viable, so sure gear isn't the focus of the game but it is there for people that like it.
You would be well advised to temper your expectations. I'm sure it will be good, but I always leave an opening for the possibility it won't. Just so I won't be disappointed.
A someone who used to also play Lost Ark for hours on end, I am REALLY looking forward to BG3. Been playing DND since 2nd Edition and this is finally a game that seems to capture the true essence of all of the base game's possibilities. I have purposely avoided Early Access so I could enjoy the final product completely blind.

I played 200 hours (2 solo characters and 1 co-op) and never thought that it was possible to burn a web in the spider “boss” area. Amazing attention to detail.

Larian historically doesn’t do expansions. I’m hoping they do since there’s so much potential not to mention lvl increases. But if history is to go by no real expansions will come out for this game but one can hope.
Larian has never made expasions for their games, not even DLCs, the only "DLCs" are the soundtracks, so the chances for an expansion its not 0 but its unlikely they will make an expansion for BG3, that being said there is a digital deluxe edition for BG3 and if you buy the base game in pc before august 3rd you'll get a free update to digital deluxe edition.

@@SkillRampage I wasnt following and/ or testing the game long enough to give you details, but the amount of critical misses I encounter makes me think the underlying mechanics are still relying on dice rolls, and work for me the same way dice rolls always did .. poorly ;)
I usually tell people that Baldurs gate is a true RPG (paper and dice) made for computer, and not a MMORPG inspired computer game inspired by fantasy. Where tactics are more important than spell rotation (I do love 1st person, single player rpg and MMORPG as well), making it in that case that Baldurs Gate could as easily be played around a table with paper and dices instead of on the PC (your actions in the game is still made by dice rolls, just behind the scenes). When it comes to replayability, there's absolutely no reason ti include PVP, as the game have 17000 different endings, meaning,that every playthrough potentially has a totally different endings. Also the fact they everything is decided by dice rolls, it would be hard to compete in pvp as the results of a match would come from how lucky you were with the dice, and tactics than on how good your rotation/gear is. S tip would be to observe a tabletop rpg to understand the mechanical part of it. The fact that it is a computer conversion of a turn based paper and dice rpg, is why the game get so much attention and love, as it talk to both the rpg geeks, PC and console gamers. It takes time to get used to turn based though ø, but compared to Sid Meier games, BG is fast-paced.

Glad to see MMO players slowly starting to see RPGs for what theyre suppose to be instead of the watered down dribble WoW turned the MMO market into. Even old school MMOs like Ultima Online were far mote engaging than what MMOs are now days. BG3 hopefully changes the RPG market bavk to where it used to be instead of where its at now.
Choice in dialogs and story is a huge game changer. It turned me from someone who always skips 90% of dialog and story into someone who binges the entire story when I played SWTOR for the first time. As someone who can't enjoy pure single player games and who didn't buy SWTOR for the story, it was completely unexpected.
I really want to play through this. I wanted to play through it with friends but many have little kids and wouldn't be able to play daily in the evenings. It would take us until 2030 to finish it stop and start.
I hope we get the opportunity to make our own campaigns/stories in this title. I'd love to share some interesting story ideas with random people on the internet.
I believe they said they wanted to work on the base game first before doing a collosal task like that. We'll probably get it but it wont be anytime soon.

Loved divinity and divinity 2. This will be my first baldurs gate but I'm big into DND so I'll enjoy the class building and combat regardless. First play through is going to be an all druid party just for laughs and challenge. This game also fits my friend group well. So many of the endgame struggles we face in MMOs are "find X number of other party members that aren't toxic elitist or seemingly sharing the same dusty brain cell"
Origin characters have set subclasses, but their class and subclass can be completely changed. Beware though, a lot of their identity and dialog has to do with their class. You can hire new group members and completely skill them how you like.
BG3 looks amazing , i loved Divinity original sin2 and BG3 looks even better. BG3 is a crpg a single player game with optional coop , most people will play alone ,it's about 70-150 h/story
A fun fact, developers stated there's 17.000 variations of different endings in the game depending on your choices. Which basically means, everyone will have different experience of playing the game. There's also crazy amount of interactions you can get, every time I replayed early access I found out new things I can do, I seen people play for 5k hours just the early access and they still find new things in the game. Just recently I saw that pigs can climb down the stair, and they have cutest/funniest animation for it!
Game adheres strictly to DND rulesets. Its basically a tabletop campaign presented in a graphical format. Almost every action in game has a dice roll attached - only certain important ones get presented to the player in BG.

Totally with you here. Grinding has become such a staple in every game just artificial length.

The original Baldur's Gate games were also based on DnD. Although the rolls were hidden, they were still there.

A true spiritual successor to Dragon Age: Origins.
Its probably going to be one of the greatest story-line RPGs ever made!
I love the idea of how custom the game is. That being said im not a super fan of turn bases games all that much.

This game also fits my friend group well. So many of the endgame struggles we face in MMOs are "find X number of other party members that aren't toxic elitist or seemingly sharing the same dusty brain cell"

do you control the classes/sub-classes for your whole party or only your character?
Origin characters have set subclasses, but their class and subclass can be completely changed. Beware though, a lot of their identity and dialog has to do with their class. You can hire new group members and completely skill them how you like.

BG3 looks amazing , i loved Divinity original sin2 and BG3 looks even better.
BG3 is a crpg a single player game with optional coop , most people will play alone ,it's about 70-150 h/story
Yeah it does, and here hoping it is better. Divinity 2 is one my all time fav/best games.

A fun fact, developers stated there's 17.000 variations of different endings in the game depending on your choices. Which basically means, everyone will have different experience of playing the game.
There's also crazy amount of interactions you can get, every time I replayed early access I found out new things I can do, I seen people play for 5k hours just the early access and they still find new things in the game. Just recently I saw that pigs can climb down the stair, and they have cutest/funniest animation for it!

Game adheres strictly to DND rulesets. Its basically a tabletop campaign presented in a graphical format. Almost every action in game has a dice roll attached - only certain important ones get presented to the player in BG.

I actually thought D&D was a very old MMORPG from before WoW, that people liked but it got too old and they shut it down. Imagine my surprise learning what it actually is.
If you're curious there are some fun channels on YT that record their real D&D campaigns and get to see what it's all about :D
