SP-404MKII One-Shot Playback Mode - Play LONG SAMPLES → SHORT PATTERNS!

- I feel like I've been sleeping on this new feature from SP-404MKII Firmware Update v3 → One-Shot Playback mode is a variation of the GATE Button that does this: once a sample is playing, hitting that pad again will not retrigger the sample until it is done playing thru.
In my example I take a 2 bar loop from my joint "Snake In The Grass" (from WATCHED POTS NEVER BOIL IV) and, at the start of the pattern, add an 8 bar Guitar solo...so even as it is a 2 bar pattern looping it keeps on playing the whole guitar solo rather than having it restart on each repeat.

I'm excited to see what this feature does for me since I work in Ableton most confortably. I'm super hyped to go back and learn from your videos. Just got my MK2 today. Really hyped to mess around and find out what I can make with it.
Maybe I misunderstood, but you said in another comment thread that you can sample an external instrument to a pad while a pattern plays? Or maybe you were referring to skip back? Thanks again man.
Welcome to the party, man! Indeed you can.
When you Resample a Pattern - set Rec Settings/Routing to “ExtIn”. Then while the pattern is playing, what every you record thru the Line/Mic In will be recorded to a pad.

@@Nonjuror wish they improved BPM guessing algorythm and the tap tempo precision - still having hard time to match samples with to a tempo like on any old MPC ( no time stretch just tap tempo) and file naming on the device still not there. But hey - it's a great lil fun box to carry around ;) have a great weekend !👊🍻
Yeah that bpm detect must be a pretty damn complex algorithm. In the Pitch/speed screen I always tap Sub pad to tap the tempo and go from there.
@@Nonjuror i do the same but the tap tempo is only approximation..like to get in the ballpark ..problem arises when trying to pitch sample up n down and or trying to sequence anything and make a drum sewuence particular tempo like 80.6 90.1 or some small increments..its impossible in the sequencer tempo adjust. Or m I missing something? I m udjustimg my sequence to sample speed and try to keep the pitch in tune to music scale ..to be able to play Rhodes on top or sax.. that's my aim

Very helpful video! So we have gate on, gate off and one-shot modes, but is there a mode where the first press of a sample plays it and if you hit it again it stops it?

Hi there, I was wondering if you figured out a way to have a long sample play from one pattern into the next? This was no problem on my MPC 1000 as it would do that by default but it seems like no matter what I do, the sample will always cut off at the start of the next pattern on the 404.
Easy, in the Settings, under the General tab change PTN Change Mode to “SX”. That should stop the sample from being cut off when the next pattern starts. Hope that helps!
