He did indeed. And then a legion of new bands ripped off his style.

I bought Mallevs on vinyl when it was first released, I still have it. Definitely my favorite Pestilence.

When it comes to the first two Pestilence albums with Martin Van Drunen, I equally enjoy both in different ways. Malleus Maleficarum is a phenomenal technical thrash metal album and Consuming Impulse is an old school death metal gem.

I’d go with Consuming but Testimony is my favorite 🤘🏼

I remember Testimony throwing me for a loop. It was so slick in comparison to Consuming and it threw me. I grew to love it, but I’ll always be a Consuming guy.

What a hard decision to make, both of these releases rule! I can’t pick just one. 🤘🏻

For me it remains the same: "Mallevs" is a very good late Thrash Metal album and "Consuming" is a very good early Death Metal album. Both on the same level with alternating strengths and weaknesses in terms of innovation, composition, songwriting, delivery and production. Definitely a tie.

Testimony has always been my favorite Pestilence album. But Consuming f**king rules!

They really were on fire for those first 3 albums, even though each had a different sound/characteristic. Thanks for watching!

Both albums rule, and so does Testimony!

Agreed. All 3 sound different. Those early bands were strangely good at shedding their creative skin.

@@killerbean5343 I was curious, but I didn't have expectation. a guy on Metalstorm summarized this type of BM best:
Milk metal (sometimes stylized as mjölka metal) is a subgenre of expiration-date-exceeded metal that combines elements of not caring about bass guitar with elements of not caring about writing more than two riffs for an 8-minute song. Milk metal often features "absolutely nothing interesting" and frequently makes use of the "whatever" and "what's the fucking point" guitar techniques. Many milk metal vocalists use the approach of boring the listener to tears with monotony and repetitive phrasing to create the genre's completely indistinct sound and feel. Milk metal got its name from a quote by the guitarist of the band Past Your Eyes, who once proclaimed: "Now watch me milk this one riff until the cows come home."
      It is kinda true

Id like to see them review it. I thought it was a bit better than Astral Fortress .

@@domino412 Yes, it is better than astra fortress, but still kinda meh 5/10. It might be a fun episode as the other one I suppose

I bought it in spite of saying I was done with them. Hasn’t arrived yet and I haven’t spun it. I bought it on the strength of the first single. Sounded like they were trying a bit more than they have been on the past 3 albums. I’m not expecting much, but we shall see.
