I received my Black Ops yesterday and can't wait to play tomorrow. My 0311 XF Gen 6 is good; the Black Ops is great. With the Heroes discount, I paid $449. That is a competitive price against any of the major brands.
Based on the numbers and ball flight Ian hit the PXG 0311 Black Ops T1 better than any of the 2024 drivers hit to date. No other driver hung in there with his gamer. We don’t see max height on the comparison and I’m wondering if average spin under 2,000 is any issue but it definitely performed very well. I’m getting a fitting late winter early spring for a much needed new driver and I’m adding the Black Ops to the fitting. Looking forward to the 2024 Bracket challenge!!
Maybe an unpopular opinion, but I have tried numerous drivers on the used market (15hcp and fittings are not in my budget), and the original PXG 0211 has been by far the best one for me. Consistent high draws to 275 carry. I honestly think this thing will propel me to single figures this season! Very impressed with PXG.
Not unpopular at all. The entire 0211 lineup was fantastic and while I didn't buy the driver, I did hit it in my fitting day and it was only slightly behind my TSi at the time.
Seems like the extra 200 revs or so on Ian's gamer was the only advantage PXG sounded really good in the studio so much fun to watch for us 85mph old geezers Cheers from Norcal
Had a fitting last Friday with the standard model, and the spin was CRAZY low (for me, obvs). I am about 99mph driver swing speed (some day we'll get that over 100, lol), and with my gamer (PXG XF Gen 5), I was in the 2500-range, but with the Black Ops I was seeing a bunch in the sub-1700 range (including a few in the 1200 range). What's bonkers to me is that the ball still launched well - 10.5 degree head. Sound and feel were AWESOME, I just couldn't seem to get a consistent strike with it, and my gamer shaft (Oban Devotion) has an all-fit sleeve on it, and the screw wouldn't work with it in the newer head, so I couldn't get an apples-to-apples comparison, unfortunately. That being said - if I could find a deal on the head-only, I might be tempted to swap it out and tinker - the sound and feel are THAT much better than the Gen 5 XF. Super curious to see how it fares for you guys when you get it in.
Nice review here (as usual). Went for fitting for Black Ops 2 weeks ago, driver just arrived. Spin came down significantly off my current gamer which was shocking. Look at address and feel checked all the boxes for me. Been pounding balls last day in simulator against old driver and Black Ops hands down is better for me. Much lower spin, faster ball speed. Cannot wait to take out on my course soon. Couldn’t be happier and this video also solidifies the spin issue I was having. Well done.
In my personal experience, I had excellent numbers with Gen 2 but Gen 4, 5 and 6 were just kind of middle of the road. Seems they may have made another stellar one this time
I play TSR3. If you had a robot hit every drive dead in the middle, idk if TSR3 would be the longest. But round after round, my misses are so good with the TSR3. Low ones don’t over spin, high ones don’t dive bomb. It’s just the total package driver. Also looks and feels exceptional
It’s just so exceptional, it’s very very very easily the best driver out right now. The TSR product line is as good as is gets performance wise and then looks it’s unparalleled
The one thing people overlook is the ability to dial in a pxg product. You can fine tune them through the hossle adjustments and the weight kit. I like to tinker and try different shafts and it's so easy to adjust. Just buy a weight kit.
You're 100% correct. If your swing or miss changes, it's gotta be the easiest driver to adjust if you grab the additional weight kit. Should help prevent overly frequent upgrading too! I love tinkering too and the unlimited adjustability scratches both my nerd itch and my propensity to 2nd guess if I made the right decision... If I didn't, I just adjust! Tinkering is why PXG has dominated the long end of my bag.
I like to try a few of my other shafts too so I bought tips for them and I usually buy all the shafts used and resell them. I feel like my driver is the best club in the bag
Exactly what I was thinking too. I got fitted yesterday for the Black Ops standard and loved the flexibility/longevity it gives me with the option to adjust the three weights and dial things in further when needed. Not to mention the sound it makes… BOOM
Nice to see them making strides in that department, most reviews I've seen in the past with PXG drivers haven't been the most favorable. Always good when companies step up their game
as I already bought the new Black Ops, I was glad to hear your review on it was also good (haha). I value your opinions and love love the channel! Thanks!
Ian & Mike. Please test the AutoFlex in Ian old Driver vs PXG new Driver to see how the Golf heads act with AutoFlex so we can see how Go the Driver head can be adjusted.
I tried auto flex and KBS td 60 cat2 in a gen6 pxg . 2 yards overall difference with auto flex . KBS felt better though and I could hit the driver of the deck with that fitted , which was not the case with the pinky shaft.
I’m on the fence about either a TSR2 or the standard Black ops, this video came out at the perfect time. Going to get fit for both and see what the numbers are, but good to know either option is a good one
Ian, Mikey I watch everything you guys put out and I can honestly say I don’t think I’ve cut short one video, that’s how good they are. Member of the New Golf Club St Andrews, would be delighted to host you round the Old Course if your ever over. Equally would give my right arm to come over to you guys for a fitting. On the bucket list. Sad day as well Ian with Steven Davis announcing his retirement, been a good servant. Keep up the good work 👍
Tried the new Black ops 2 weeks ago in Glendale ,Az at PXG and I was very disappointed as it didn’t even come close to my PXG Gen 4 ,I did buy the Black Ops 7 wood that was awesome. Before buying I would definitely recommend a fitting as we tried shafts weight changes and couldn’t even compete with my 3 to 4 year old driver
Must say Ian you guys are damn objective when you do reviews! I've become a PXG convert since the 0211 ST sold forged irons which they discontinued! Gen 6 is excellent. Still a big Mizuno fan as well regarding looks and feel. The PXG line is comparable to any of the big name brands IMHO. Nice that you review their products objectively. Your review of G430 Max 10K v TM Qi10 Max would be great alongside PXG 0311 Black Ops standard model done with an average swing speed golfer.
The COR in the club head has been maxed out years ago so you won’t get any longer drives on centre strikes and the only thing you now pay for is “forgiveness” on off centre hits and sound/feel differences between different manufacturers. Aside from than, new shafts to confuse the day.
Thanks for the Review Boys.... Nice to see you guys get excited about a product, When you are excited so are we....The Black ops Tour looks like a real winner Impressive,,,
Been gaming the Gen4 0811X for a while now, and the Black Ops Tour-1 is no joke. Granted, I got fitted into a slightly heavier shaft, so it’s not a 1:1 apples to apples comparison. But my clubhead and ball speeds jumped 4mph (118 to 122, and 171 to 175, respectively), spin dropped 500rpm (2800 to 2300), and carry jumped 13 yards (290 to 303). Black Ops is unquestionably faster and more forgiving. And it looks awesome. Hoping to game it soon.
If PXG wins the driver bracket challenge, will you do a video comparing Tour 1 with the standard Black Ops driver? Will the standard Black Ops be better for slower swing speeds? Keep up the great work!
Love that so many brands can produce top notch clubs now. Could probably rattle off 8 brands of clubs I would game. 5 years ago would probably be closer to 3
Great video guys, any chance you could revisit this club and see how it performs with heel and toe strikes to give us average golfers an idea of the forgiveness or lack off from PXG?
@@MichaelM-to4sg Geez, sorry my excitement ruffled your feathers. Name a new driver that offers anything "new" to the market over the last couple years...they all have the same basic technology, the 10k story this year, carbon, etc. Love it or hate it, the carbon face of the TM's has been the only real change anyone has really tried recently. @@MichaelM-to4sgCan say the same for TM, Calloway and Ping this year. Carbon copy of last years clubs, where for PXG this is their best driver ever. So it actually does offer something as a brand you must consider now

Way too easy to hit just a little short on ballspeed The black ops (the non tour) is promising more forgiveness and ball speed which is basically what I want out of my XF! Michael, it’s $450 for anybody in his Heroes club… lots cheaper, & looking like it’s better than most right now & that’s before dialing it in…. Good job PXG! 💪
Good test …. Wish they would rethink their naming strategy. ‘Black Ops’ ‘Sugar Daddy’ ‘Bat Attack’. Just names and very good product but gets on my wick.
The thing with pxg is that all these reviews for the black ops and even the older gen 6 seem to have a ventus shaft in them and that's a £300 option in the UK, that would make it £849 and that's an absurd amount of money, Taylor made managed to provide a ventus shaft as standard option, I think Pxg should try and look at that.
Bo11uck$! Your kidding! How much better… I just bought the 0311 gen 5 with the Hzrdus smoke blue 6S shaft for €179 😱 Anyway, I’m going to tinker with that one.
I just snapped my ventus blue tr 6x from the adapter. Could i simply replace the adapter and still use the shaft? Any idea how much it would affect the flex and the profile of the shaft?
Where ever you bought the shaft I would ask them for a warranty replacement. The shaft is unusable. There is a 3” parallel tip section on ventus and if it broke off at the adapter it would be too little space left in that section to make a reliable shaft. You want to always keep at least 2” of parallel section. If you really stretch it 1.5”. Tip trimming stiffens the shaft. 1” is usually a full flex you will also decrease the swing weight by 6 points per inch. 3 per .5”
They've gone in at too high a price point. They need to be competing at the Cobra , Mizuno level if they're serious about making inroads into Ping, Cally, TM and Titleist.
@dronepocket325 Not in the driver category. I mean this driver is slower than the 18 month old TSR ...so why would you buy it. They have reputation in the irons...not much else.
