in the late 1960's and early 1970's I hung out a lot at The Palomino Club in North Hollywood especially when Gram, Emmy and the Burrito Brothers were playing. I was so honored to hang with Gram back stage once. Damn, what a historic time to live in. I once dated one of the female waitresses there. Hooking up with Del Shannon and Brian Hyland there was a mind blower. "HICKORY WIND" what a memory blast! ❤❤❤❤❤

I was a Sophomore in college the year Gram passed, and I discovered him, the Byrds, the FBBs, and Emmylou around that time but after his passing. Their duets saved my soul more times than I can count and I still miss him for how his music positively affected my life. Gram's and Emmylou's relationship was always so intriguing to me. I felt she must have tried to save him but in the end she could not overcome his addictions. And I'm sure there was at least a great fondness for one another if not love. There had to be - you can just hear it in their singing together. His music was life changing for her, for me, and countless other fans.

Gram had an appreciation, love, and reverence for traditional country music that far out weighs what is shown by the current Nashville music establishment. They are too busy trying to sound popish to gain listeners. This cycle has happened before. History doesn't repeat itself but it does often rhyme.

I have loved Gram in a way I can't even fathom myself and as the story goes I believe Hillman Told Gram about this women he had to hear so they went to DC were she was doing a gig and they played something together and the duet began a harmony that is still amazing now ,50 some years since that day. Now the myths surrounding Gram and the Burritos are so confusing that I could have some of this wrong. I guess only Chris Hillman can tell you the whole truth but what ever that truth might be. All I know is that something really special happened. And Chris thanks for your contributions to the Byrds and all the other great things you created .But thanks most of all for getting the Burritos together and putting up with Gram. I am sure it must have been tough putting up with a kid more into pushing off with keef than being on time for something you created with Bernie and the rest of the burritos but you did show us something that will never happen again . And changed my life forever. That voice with Emmylou's voice can never be duplicated again so mahalo's my brother and thanks for still being alive. Gram was not so lucky and you can still see the burn marks up at old cap rock in one of the most beautiful micro enviroments in the world. Mahalo for the music all of you folks and I am sure Gram is smiling between nods. God bless you all. John E.

Attitudes about accepting drug addicted people into the rooms have changed drastically over the past 50 years. However, I believe it's a regional 'thing'. Most groups in most areas no longer have an issue with it, but there will always be exceptions. The program is not a 'one size fits all' deal, and AA has very few rules, outside of the 12 Traditions. Please don't allow the prejudices of some to color your view of the larger Fellowship. Most important of all, 'keep coming back'- your life depends on it.

One of the best songs ever, any version. In 1978 I was 19, fell in with some older hippies and, thankfully,I was turned on to this alternate music scene. Im a deadhead, and bands like NRPS,early pure prairie league, Burrito Brothers helped shape my life.Grevious Angel was my initial GP album, what a great piece of work that was. Streets of Baltimore is an awesome cover also. Maybe you can pick out a Billy Strings song to go over. The best guitarist in the country.

Forty years later, my friends now loving that country shit asked me why I didn’t force them to go. I was pretty persuasive in those days, but I opted to go by myself.

I have been listening to the Byrds this week, even more so since the announcement of David Crosby’s death yesterday. Included in my listening was the Sweet Heart of the Radio album. Parsons joining the Byrds significantly influenced the Byrds move toward country-rock from its origins as a rock band. I find Parsons, including Emmylou Harris, more suited for Americana-Roots genre than Country music. It’s the blending of folk-bluegrass- rock, without the slick Nashville sound - and this is especially true of ‘70’s Country music. I first saw Emmylou in concert in the mid-70’s soon after she formed her HotBand. She opened for Willie Nelson and Ricky Skaggs was played guitar-fiddle-and mandolin. Emmylou always had the best musicians in her bands, including Sam Bush (formerly of the progressive bluegrass band New Grass Revival) and Rodney Crowell. These singer/songwriter musicians transcend genres. And like Emmylou, these days, are rarely, if ever heard, on country music stations.

Yes ! And influenced / was friends with the early incarnation of Poco.
Of course, the Eagles remembered him with the song ‘My Man’ - written in honor of him

    Salute!
And Thank You, for reintroducing me to Gramms work!!
Using Lynyrd Skynyrd (I grew up on Southern Rock) as an example, my daddy used to say Rock n Roll would become Country.
I said he had it backwards.
Most all contemporary Country bands depend on an aggressive electric guitar.
Gramm brought Emmy Lou into the spotlight, and her work with him in harmony, is as American Music as it gets!!
It stands on it own, in my book.

Okay, I love trains, have been fro SLC to Denver on the Zephyr, as well as shorter hops, but seriously -Florida to California would be 5-6 days on the dang thing. You'd have to write songs, just to stay sane.
Love this song, love this version.
    Thank you.

The country music establishment feared Gram,
Like the rock world feared Hendrix.
Some got over it, some didn't.

You should follow this up with Emmylou's own haunting version of this song. One of my favorites. From her "Blue Kentucky Girl" album. There's also a great live performance by her.

I wonder what those Grand Ol Opry would think about the garbage they're trying to pass off as country music these days?

Gram wanted to turn country into real music but they wanted no part of it.

A lit of country artists were influenced by and adopted his style of country music. They evolved country music with a rock style flavor to it and also grew their hair long. Almost all the male country singers these days have long hair! Thanks Gram. I hate the crewcut look myself... 😎👌🏻

Stayed at the Joshua Tree Inn in CA where Parsons passed in room #8. Whole property is a great tribute to a legend.

He never should have died like that. Those men weren’t friends. I’m 70, I remember this era clearly.
