I was at a music festival about 30 years ago. There was five stages going all at once. It was impossible to see everyone. I was just walking around seeing what's on each and I stumbled on these guys playing this very song. I parked my ass against a tree and stayed until they finished their set. It was nothing less than heaven. I loved it, Thanks for posting and bringing back some good memories.
Happy Birthday Harri! This was a wonderful request. I haven’t heard this in many years and it sounds great. I had forgotten how good these guys were. Fantastic reaction too. Thanks Harri and Ian. 🌸💐✌️
From 1972, this was War's 5th album, " The World is a Ghetto" released in 1972. Such a wonderful song laced with great funk and soul, the album features War progressing further into Soul and Jazz. So very melodic, with wonderful hooks, their vocals matching at times the pain filling the lyrics and the sax so beautiful, along with bold instrumentation. The radio edit version was 4 minutes, but the album version is 10 minutes long, with a third verse added, a mind altering sax solo and a fantastic electric guitar solo. This album won Billboard Album of the Year in 1973 for this underrated Band. Great reaction Handsome Harri ❤❤ So funky Ian 👏👏 Cheers from Canada ❤❤🇨🇦🇨🇦
One other point about this LP: It was the #1 album of the year in the U.S., according to Billboard (album sales). It outsold albums by Led Zepplin, the Rolling Stones, the Who, Deep Purple, Stevie Wonder, Carly Simon, James Taylor, and everything by the solo Beatles. It went gold (probably platinum by now) and was Billboard's Album of the Year for 1973.
War was one of the best concerts I ever saw! Saw them in Summer 1973 in Odessa, TX. It was the first and only time I was ever in a totally integrated audience! It was A - MA - ZING! This song was the closer, and it lasted nearly 20 minutes. The encore was "Why Can't We Be Friends".
I wish I could time travel back! Days when it was "festival seating" and everybody brought blankets and quilts to put down on the concrete floor of the coliseum! Passing around the doobs and everyone so happy and loving each other. 😂
I’m glad that you liked the song 🎉 They were really big in the 70s, many hits. They had their own funky & soulful sound. If you like this, you might want to check out “All Day Music”, “Gypsy Man”, “Slippin Into Darkness”… I’m glad to have introduced you to this band, Agnete 😍✌🏼📻🌞✨
Good song. Days to remember now the memories come back. You bring back songs I forgot, and now the now the new generation can hear what we listened to back then. Much thanks and I will continue to watch your channel. 🎶🎤🎧🫶👻🕸
Thanks so much for your reaction to this live performance by War! I was really hoping that you’d dig it. There were some fantastic social consciousness songs back then. They aren’t dated- all these decades later-but just as relevant, sadly. I love the third verse on this extended version because of its message of hope & love. Many thanks again, Harri. I truly appreciate it 😍💫
Sorry Ian for my lack of memory. You have requested War before, somehow this one talks more to me. I do remember Eric Burdon in The Animals, he moved to the states and out of the european consiousness 🤔☺Have talked with Cynthia about it when she requested Eric Burdon 🥰 Take care and have a good day 😇💥🎷🎶🎺💚
@@agnetesorensenelbom5085 Oops, I just saw this 😳… my memory just isn’t what it once was 😂, so I don’t mention it if someone else happens to forget something! The good news is that this song touched you in a deeper way- and the other song didn’t. So, I don’t think you’re “Slippin Into Darkness”, which is great news 😉😃🎈🩵 I hope you have a wonderful dinner and a relaxing evening 😄😍
That's what it feels for me: that, for most of us, the world is becoming more and more like a ghetto. Not one based on skin color, but on socioeconomic status. Beautiful song, though.
The lead vocals are by the late B.B. Dickerson who passed away in 2021. The sax player Charles Miller was killed in a botched robbery in 1980. The murder is unsolved to this day. Lee Oskar, the harmonica player, is from Denmark. The band continues to play but the only original member is keyboardist Lonnie Jordan. This album was released when I was 15. I'm 67 now and the artistry of these fine musicians still mesmerizes me.
I’m delighted to have introduced you to War, Dave! Yes, they were an amazing band with their own funky soulful sound. Harri reacted to another song by War that I requested…🤔..last spring, or thereabouts. It’s called “Slippin’ Into Darkness”. Or, get out the popcorn and binge all of their music 😉😂 and don’t forget the liquid refreshments 🥳✌🏼 Many thanks for your sly fox compliment…😂🎸

Some stellar funk right there! Omg, and here i am 65, and get to see them in concert for the first time at the end of Oct! So exited ❤

You’re very welcome, Debbie 🎉 They really were great, and I love this live performance 🎹🎸🎷🪇🥳✌🏼
I’m delighted that you enjoyed it, too!
I had this album, vinyl...at that time, I liked their sound and music style !

And the album boasted incredible, intricate art cover, very hard to forget.
DAMN THAT WAS FIYA!!!! One of my All Time Favorite Groups! Glad I was apart of that Generation, to be listening to all of their Music!

I’m really happy that you enjoyed it!
War belongs in the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame.
@@jdw5678I absolutely agree with you!!!
Fantastic reaction as usual. And let me the first to say happy birthday! Hope you have something special planned! 🎉

funk blues crooning love when music does that
FANTASTIC Band - Look up when Burdon was with them

War's live version of Spill The Wine, recorded in Germany, was another great jam session.
Great harmony!

Hammond B3 organ.
1972, I was a 12 year old budding musician and this was the first piece of sheet music I bought with my own money. It's always been my favorite.
The LEGENDARY Iconic War
I love the Music by War and especially when Eric Burdon was with them. Great selection Ian and reaction Mr Best.
Thanks, Cynthia from Canada 🇨🇦 I hope you had a nice Thanksgiving 🥳🎊🎈
@@iandowney4630 yes thank you it was nice. I am still not feeling great but got more meds today. It has been a month now. 😩😱
@@Cynthia... Woah, that’s way too long to feel sick! I’m glad you got more meds, and I really hope that you feel better soon 🫖🍯🛌🤒
Thanks for the reaction.
Damn! didn’t recognize Harri without all the hair, lol
I got to see War Funkadelic Mandrill and the Ohio Players touring together on the same show, some of the best live performances I’ve ever seen.
What an amazing lineup! Wish I had seen it…
Lee Oskar on harmonica! Brilliant!
Harri, check out George Benson's cover of this track. It's fantastic as well!
Classic soul at its finest ❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
I love the group WAR, They should be inducted into the RRHOF. Another group you should react to is Watts 103rd Street Rhythm Band.
All Day Music next please!!!!
Thanks!
Thank You Ian ✌🏾
@@HarriBestReactions Thanks for doing what you do, Harri. Stay well!
