As George tells it, he and Jeff were having lunch in LA, Jeff invited Roy to join them, George gets a call from the record company, they need a B side fir a single release. All the studios are full, then George remembers Bob has one in his garage, calls Bob, just happens to get him, now they have a studio, Roy tags along, George needs to stop by Tom's to get his guitar, Tom thinks "this could be fun" and tags along as well, George calls Jim Keltner and asks him to join them at Bob's. They get there, Bob asks "so what's the song" George starts writing on the spot, sees a box in the corner with a sticker that says Handle With Care. They send the song in, record company says, uh no too good, we want an album. George gets everyone together and they rent Dave Stewart's (Eurythmics) house for a month and record Vol. 1

George Harrison told a story that every member of the band would stop whatever they were doing to listen to Roy Orbison sing. They would even come in during times they didn't need to just to listen to him record. Imagine having a voice that made that group of musicians stop what they were doing.
I saw an interview with Tom Petty and he was talking about the Wilbury's. "Jeff was mastering the recording of one of the songs and he was shaking his head. His life was marred with tragedy and rejection because he felt that he was considered unattractive. In an interview, Roy acknowledged how he leaned on Christ to get him through those tough times. Barbara, his second wife, resembles his first wife Claudette. She had died in a tragic motorcycle accident. This was another reason he wore it. He had a difficult time getting though that and the symbol used for a motorcycle and the cross aspect (Christianity), helped him cope with the loss. Claudette, his first wife, and Roy loved riding their motorcycles. ************************************************** I hope this helps you, my friend.
George asked those guys to help him on an album, they wrote one song, intended to be a bonus track, but it was too good just to be a bonus track, so they decided to get together and make an album. This is such a good project, almost kinda unbelievable that they came together to do this. I recently picked up a re-released audiophile recording of this album. Was listening to it last night actually. Pleasantly surprised to see it on your channel today.
Roy was a biker. Bikers began wearing the Iron Cross in the 60s. It was originally a military decoration from the Kingdom of Prussia deriving from the Black Cross of the Teutonic Knights from the medieval era. It was subsequently used by the German State, including the period under AH, but is not a N*zi symbol unless it incorporates the swastika. The Iron Cross is still used in the German military today. Bikers probably adopted it for shock value and it has a history of use in Heavy Metal for the same reason.
George Harrison....a founding member of the music group that forever changed music, culture, and an era (The Beatles)...the first musician to incorporate musical instruments from other cultures into modern rock music....the first Ex Beatle to have a #1 album (All things must pass) as well as the first #1 song (My Sweet Lord 1970), as well as the last Ex Beatle to top the charts in the US (1988 I've got my mind set on you)...the first musician to put together a successful star studded charity event for famine relief (1971 Concert for Bangladesh)....1st musician to form and record music as a supergroup (The Traveling Wilburys)...and one of the VERY few artists (along with Ringo) who could ask any well known musician for a favor and they would come running to help. Can't find a better legacy than that...
According to most music historians, Cream is widely considered the first rock supergroup, as the band consisted of already established musicians like Eric Clapton, Jack Bruce, and Ginger Baker, who all achieved fame individually before forming the group together.
@@MrLedotson thank you for the insight...never heard much from my peers about Cream, but most of them were folk and folk rock, and Hawaiian entertainers.

the first singer was George Harrison, yes, from the beatles. He was a good friend of Tom Petty. Roy recorded the songs, but he died before the video was recorded. So they put his guitar and a picture of him in the rocker. The scene reminds me of the scene in A Hard day's Night, when the Beatles played a song in a carriage of a train. I am sure you know, George died of cancer, Tom is dead now, and Roy died during this shoot. the only two still living are Bob and Jeff. Russ Kunkle? Long time session musician, he has been around since the seventies.
Every time I hear a TWB song I don’t want it to end. I was selling CDs when this was released. It was a monster seller based on the singles and air play but people found they loved the album end-to-end. I had a high school kid come in one night the first week I was open and say: my dad told meGeorge Harrison was in another band beforeTWB. Is that true and do you have it?” I thought WTH have I gotten myself into? But the kid bought TWB and a Beatles album and remained a customer for many years.

Jeff Lynne, Jim Keltner and Bob Dylan are the only members of the band left. RIP George, Tom and Roy.
This is such a good project, almost kinda unbelievable that they came together to do this. I recently picked up a re-released audiophile recording of this album. Was listening to it last night actually. Pleasantly surprised to see it on your channel today.
End of the line is a great song also. This is the true meaning of a supergroup.
You can tell by looking at the guys that they’re have a good time together!
I love this song , incredible lyrics, the greats !
Sooooo good. Wish they were all still with us.
Love the Traveling Wilburys!- Thank you for playing them. I've been listing to them a lot lately. But I also heard a song the other day Ithink you as a rapper would be interested in listening too... Going Down by the Monkees. Give it a listen.
That is the only Monkee I can't sing along with. Mickey sings too fast! lol
LoL, I know! But some good rhyming.
@@LauraG-tr3ef Indeed good rhyming but how does he sing it so darn fast? I even had the lyrics and couldn't keep up.
Natural talent He was always the "Fast Talker" on the show the Car Salesman type.
We have already lost 3 of them.. RIP Roy, George and Tom...❤😢
greatest super group ever
I grew up with each of these and their groups. George is also responsible for the first aid concert with concert for Bengla Desh. I gave a class on the History of Rock & Roll.
There is a documentary about how they got together & wrote the songs it’s a great watch ❤ x it’s around 36 minutes called the true history of the travelling Wilburys x
Look closely when the harmonica comes in, you see Bob bent over more because he’s playing it. He has his signature harmonica holder around his neck.
the first singer was George Harrison, yes, from the beatles.
What a Song!!!
Per Wikipedia, it was in fact Bob Dylan on the harmonica.
I bought this tape when it came out in the late 80ies. I loved every song. Still do!!
You need to check out some of George's solo catalog! I HIGHLY RECOMMEND "Beware of Darkness", "Isn't it a Pity", "Let it Down", & tons more!!! George was a musical GENIUS!!
Thanks for bringing this one back! 40!
In one word: A great song!
That Dylan Harmonica, that Harrison slide guitar, That Tom Petty type of chorus, That Orbison sweetness in his voice and Lynn tempo styled song production, like in ELO Don't Bring me down. Those recognizable details blended are great. Yes ,The Templar Cross, Masonic at its best!!
Super groupl all legends❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
All of us Baby Boomers were hooked on the hook!!
Truly a super group... who didn't even use there real names. George, Tom, Bob, Roy, and Jeff. Wow
If you want to hear more Bob Dylan, check out Subterranean Homesick Blues, one of my favs by him.
they came up with pseudonyms for each guy..George became Nelson Wilbury..Dylan was Lucky Wilbury ..etc.
The wilbury's names are nelson , otis, lefty, lucky and charlie.. I loved looking at the inside of the albums for lyrics and references , check it out i think they also had nicknames like muddy or spike, buster sidebury tom keltner was a session drummer for orbison, Floyd, and Beatles
Jim keltner
@@sanpaku6869 yup sorry voice transcription sucks
Shout out to the drummer!
George Harrison’s son Dhani played with the other members in While My Guitar Gently Weeps, along with Prince.
Great song ❤
All those Years ago-A song George did for Lennon after he was murdered. My Sweet Lord, For you Blue....George is awesome!
Fantabulous. Thank you Sir
Another great one. Keep 'm coming! Pretty sure Tom and Roy could handle that harmonica just as well.
Some of are finest artist calibrating unfortunately we have lost some....keep pumping out great content BP 👌🏽
5 superstars zero egos
The track you already reacted to is END OF THE LINE. By the time they did the video Roy had already past away. 😢
The Travelling Wiburys - Not Alone Anymore. It's sung by Roy Orbison and it's a wonderful track
It was easily there biggest hit. Top 5
