Also the fact that luke doesn’t like kids but takes very good care of april and rory is a parallel to luke not liking dogs but still taking very good care of paul anka
Yes! I was happy to learn that too. When I rewatched the revival, that was one of the questions that was running through my mind. I thought that there is no way that it could be the same dog, but it was! 😄
Honestly Paul Anka's quirks might not to be too exaggerated my first thought when he learned all the stuff he's scared of, what he does and doesn't like was 'Oh this dog was in an abusive house wasn't he?' I've met a lot of animals with very strange habits after being in abusive houses and all of his stuff kinda makes sense even the more outlandish with that context.
I had that same thought about him coming from an abusive home! If i remember right, at one point Lorelai said Paul Anka is scared of/doesn't trust men (I don't remember the exact quote) which really solidified it for me as I've also known a lot of abused animals that specifically had a gender bias.
I used to think it was exaggerated but I own a cat that has several quirks. I adopted her really young but she had some issues with the other cats I owned bc she is very... peculiar about several things. when I divorced I kept just her (the other two were inseparable and went to live with the ex and she really hated living with other pets) and a lot of my day to day life is trying to make her life easier. it is very necessary to help them overcome somethings, but others just will never go away, no matter what you do. they do have personalities too, and if you try to make them make things the pet will get sick. for me just adds a lot on the "she was afraid of commitment but look at her now, bending over backwards to make a pet happy"
@@radhiadeedou8286 I never felt that way about the show. As far as Paul Anka goes I never gave his quirks a second thought because I figured they were just Lorelei jokes.
Very good analysis! I love Paul Anka the dog, he is quirky but all the pets I had and have are quirky, so it doesn’t surprise me at all. He has a lot of personality.
The statement where you mentioned Lorelai wanting everyone to adapt to Paul Anka made me think of something. To me, it made me think of how people with disabilities get treated. To me, it looks like Paul Anka (if his qualities weren’t exaggerated) had OCD and anxiety. The lining up of the shoes, not stepping on sidewalks, etc. Maybe some of his habits gave him a sense of control or it was just something fun for him (i.e. the lining up the shoes). Lorelai saying that people should adapt to Paul Anka instead of him having to adapt makes sense. It is one argument to say there is some things everyone needs to overcome, but sticking to the topic of disabilities, people and animals can’t change that. They can manage it, but they can’t change who they are or how their disability operates. And that can be how Paul Anka is. He shouldn’t have to change just because the neighbors want him to, if that makes sense. But I can see how people may feel that Lorelai’s parenting style may be too lax and she should discipline both him and Rori more. I feel she does the best she can and cannot control every action of these two no matter how hard she tries.
A friend of mine adopting a husky with many funny little quirks. One of which was a fear of stairs...she lives in an apartment on the 2nd floor with no elevator. For 3-4 months she had to carry the husky up and down the stairs, as well as take time to teach her that stairs weren't anything to be afraid of.
We love Paul Anka. He’s definitely more welcome in the fandom than April. I don’t hate April as a character (that privilege goes to Anna) but Paul Anka doesn’t incite unnecessary conflict.
You only mentioned paul anka getting sick and im already crying. I love paul anka, i think he is perfect. I think Luke was the dad who never wanted the dog but now they are best friends
I know I'll love this video just because of the title 🥹❤️ Paul Anka was a very good boy and i think in a way he brought Luke and Lorelai closer because we see that though Luke doesnt necessarily like Paul Anka, he goes out of his way for his wellbeing just because he loves Lorelai so much ❤
I loved paul anka so much!! I full on cry every time I rewatch Gilmore girls and Lorelai has her breakdown and says she's a bad mom. Gosh it's so sad, I can't think about it without tearing up. Lauren Graham is such an incredible actress!!
Ooh, that is an interesting idea! I considered doing a video talking about all the residents of Stars Hollow but your comment is making me reconsider, I think Gypsy merits a video on her own.
🌸Kinda unrelated at this point, but here are some video ideas🌸: -what is success according to GG -what's a loving relationship by GG - analysing the fight between Lorelei and Rory on season 6. I'd love to hear your takes on those topics 😊
Everyone: Waiting for videos on main characters Pensive Whiskers: So here's one about the dog! Jokes aside good video, one thing I missed is I don't think Luke does it just for Lorelai, I find it pretty likely that if he'd find dog in need he'd probably act very similar because Luke's thing is that while grumpy he takes care of everyone around him. His job he chose is to feed people, he helps out everyone as much as he can, even if he's not enthusiastic about town events he always helps, it's just who he is so it makes very much sense he'll act about the same about the animals. And he also kinda has the "Dad doesn't want a pet, dad and the pet week later..." meme energy really.
Hahahaha, I'm waiting for people to completely give up on me and then I'll bring out the big characters. 😂 (JK, I hope it will happen sooner). You're right, I was focused on Luke's statement to the vet when he said that he needs the dog to live for his fiancé, but he would have done it anyway, even if it wasn't for Lorelai. Your comment has made me think and now I'm feeling like I would expect most characters to behave this way. This, I know, is coming from a biased perspective. I would have reacted the same way as Luke and I would wish that everyone would do their best to save a dog. It's an interesting thought experiment (which GG characters wouldn't do what Luke did?).
I used to think that Paul Anka was exagerated but for the last 11 years I have owned a cat that is just as weird as he is and I just defend Lorelay about "respecting" the quirks bc MAN LIFE IS HARD WHEN YOU TRY TO WIN A FIGHT WITH A TRAUMATIZED PET if me or anyone won't respect certain of the cat choices, we WILL suffer the consequences (or she will get sick and / or miserable, eventually) its interesting to think that lorelay doesn't really took care of easy pets or even got into serious relationships for several reasons but she took care of the hardest pet ever. I know she projected Rory on him but after Rory came back she still kept him and took good care of him. I think she really loved him, bc somethings the pet will not overcome, no matter what you do, so you just adjust to them and make their little lives better. Thing is: she is afraid of commitment, was veeeeery independent and just got the hardest, needyest pet ever and took care of him for several years
Hey there! I have been thinking about doing a vid on Mitchum Huntzberger. My original thesis on him has been sort of changing after a conversation with a friend so I need to sort that out with the notes I took on him.
Hahaha, thank you! 😄I was inspired to do this video based on a person's comment. Someone jokingly suggested doing a video on the animals of Gilmore Girls and I absolutely loved it. The comments make me better. ☺
Paul Anka is like Sookie, April Kirk etc, Lorelai leans into quirky. And he has a.similar role as Rory and April. Luke isn't someone who gravitated towards kids. But he was always very caring toward Lorelai and Rory. April was quirky and he had more responsibility for her than Rory as her father. Paul Anka is not his responsibility, like Rory, but he treats him as family because he's Lorelai's family. He's accepting of his quirks, like Lorelai's like April's. Lorelai is trying to fill the void of being an empty nester and having conflict with Rory, and of course she gravitated to a quirky rescue.
My only issue with Paul Anka is that I don’t think the breed matches Lorelai. I could more easily see her with a “quirky” breed like a weenie dog or Dalmatian or something.
It would have been really interesting to see Lorelai with a Dachshund. I think that they might have picked this dog breed based on which dogs are best for filming (I'm guessing).
You made an interesting point about Lorelai adopting a dog without asking Luke. Even though dogs are more important (in terms of emotional care) than houses, houses are so much money that it feels more shocking to buy a house without telling your partner. Plus, with dogs you can always make the point that dogs kind of choose us, and we can't be judged too harshly for noticing when they do and loving them. ❤ But you still made a good point.
Also the fact that luke doesn’t like kids but takes very good care of april and rory is a parallel to luke not liking dogs but still taking very good care of paul anka
It's part of his grumpy dad demeanor. The Grumpy Dad pretends not to want to take care of people/animals, but they actually love it.
i don’t look at it as him taking care of paul anka, he’s taking care of lorelai and their relationship
I honestly just loved Paul anka. Especially in the dream, idk why but I’ve always found it so funny
I LOVE that dream! 😂❤️
I'm a sucker for dreams in shows and movies. I know some people dislike them, but I love to pick apart the symbolism
That’s one of my favourite scenes
My thoughts on Paul Anka are that he is a Good Boy.
Aren’t these the same lines Babette says to the human Paul Anka while he sits on her lap? 😂
I love Paul Anka! And Im so happy to learn that it was the same dog in "A Year in the Life". 🥰
Yes! I was happy to learn that too. When I rewatched the revival, that was one of the questions that was running through my mind. I thought that there is no way that it could be the same dog, but it was! 😄

Honestly Paul Anka's quirks might not to be too exaggerated my first thought when he learned all the stuff he's scared of, what he does and doesn't like was 'Oh this dog was in an abusive house wasn't he?' That's true, but I think with Lorelai's tendency to be dramatic and excessive, it could go either way.
@@Aelffwynn Good point. What I don't get is people complaining that the dog is too well trained that is a straight up dumb argument.
I always thought that was Lorelai making it up but then why would anyone do that
I used to think it was exaggerated but I own a cat that has several quirks. It was too much, like the show became a caricature of itself

Yes - definitely cover Babette’s cats!
It would be fun to do a ranking of the cats: Cinnamon vs. Apricot vs. Cat Kirk
