Sadly, this used to be considered fat. Overweight is overweight. Serious morbid obesity is now considered "a little fat" in America. So yes, he is fat. But by today's American obese standards, no, he's 'Not that Fat'--he's not morbidly obese.
One need only watch TV or movies from the 50's, 60's, or 70's to see how much slimmer people were then. Portion sizes we much smaller, too, and people were more active. Life was very different then. I am concerned about the health of future generations.
"I don't want a whole generation of children that are short and fat and wear glasses" Well, he got 2/3 of his wish... I don't know too many people that are short and wear glasses...
I used to be skinny. Now I am fat. I am a long-time anti-war activist. Getting fat didn't seem to work. And now the children in Europe have plenty and it's US A kids who are hungry. Go figure.
LOL Yea this was a funny bit! Allan did not take care of himself though, like so many Americans then and now. Over eating, chain-smoking, drinking too much alcohol and depression killed him before his time.
I stopped at the sidewalk, put my hand over my heart and iv'e been yelling 'Hail to thee, Fat Person' for the last 20 years.
Great silliness never dies. I'm glad UA-cam exists so bits like this can carry on to entertain future generations.
Simply inspiring :')
RIP Allan Sherman
Song made me cry the first time I heard it. AWESOME
I found: My Son, the Folk Singer record at a thrift store today... and yes i bought it.
My history teacher played this when we studied the Marshall Plan. Great stuff.
I grew up with this guy... SO glad my mom never found records obselete.
"Hail to thee, Fat Person!"
About damn time!
This is totally unrelated, but why isn't Allan's "Twelve Gifts Of Christmas" on UA-cam? That has to be one of the funniest Christmas sketches ever.
Allan Sherman's 12 Gifts of Christmas IS on UA-cam, here's the link: ua-cam.com/video/UPZ09DseJ8k/v-deo.html
This video still resonates with me

Hail to thee, @llamageek2 , for that war thing. Lots and lots of hail too!
And then there's the Alice Cooper lyric:
"Please clean the plate, dear;
The Lord above can see ya.
Don't you know children
Are starving in Korea?"
Haven't listened to that in years.
@nicetryjason Wow! I had that album! Glad you snagged a copy.
Hail to thee!
yes, yes it does
You're right, Al is in absolutely NO way subtle. But hey, he makes me giggle.
