Allan Sherman had several songs about diets. One had the lyrics,
Fare thee well, Metrecal, and others of that ilk.
Let the diet start tomorrow for today I'll drown my sorrow in a DOUBLE MALTED MILK.
This man combined GREAT comedic writing, (sorta) GREAT singing, and a GENUINE LOVEABLE QUALITY!
Never heard it before either. Sings the true eyes of a drinker
Hey, this version is missing a verse. I grew up listening to an Allan Sherman album my father had bought long before I was born, and I distinctly remember that the lunch verse is: "For lunch you can have three martinis. What better lunch is there than that? One caution: do not eat the olives, 'cause olives make you fat." Repeat the refrain as after the first verse, but with "The pounds you will burn off, so pass me the Smirnoff, and drink, drink, drink." Then the part that is given as "lunch" in this video is the final verse.
You are right, those are the lyrics. This was shortened for time.
Sorta wonder if the A.F. wasn't offended by the MISSING VERSE?! I have this song on a record, so I understand what you mean.
I STOPPED DRINKING, BECAUSE I WAS LAUGHING SO HARD I WOUND UP IN THE E.R. .
I was reading about him on Wikipedia just prior to watching this video. Seems like he followed the advice from the lyrics of this song to an early grave.
You know when you're old--when you hear at 1:58 "pass Eddie Cantor a bourbon there" instead of "pass that decanter of bourbon there"! But, this is a great song even though I now realize I'm really old, lol!
Never heard this one before. So clever. Thanks.
Thanks to the channel Plant Chompers for me finding this! Awesome, recommending this diet to an aunt, she already has the basics covered.
I used to be on that diet
Reading about this man's ultimate fate, I'm entirely convinced this "comedy" jingle was actually a barely-disguised cry for help.
I knew there'e be one Liberal on here with that 'cry for help crap". Whining liberals didn't come until DECADES later.
Stfu and listen to the music.@@tonys4396
Live while you're alive
I’m sure this song would be banned in our woke culture.
What is bro on about 😭🙏
