Thanks so much. This saved me from the white screen of death, which occurred when my new Acer chromebox failed to complete its auto-update of the OS. Brand new -- downloaded an update, restarted itself, then presenteded the white screen and only the "Shut down" icon in the lower left. Your steps resolved the problem.
It's possible that my wifi connection to the router dropped during the download or update installation, leaving the Chromebox in a hung state. I was at some distance from the router and sometimes my other network devices drop at this distance. I moved close to the router, and reconnected to the network using a rj45 hardwire to the router. Then, I followed the instructions in this video for resetting the system.
Thank you. We use the Kiosk app and apparently someone didn't keep the admin login consistent so I was not able to just enter and edit the URL so now I need to setup everything from the beginning.
If you have a newer version like the CN65 there is no button inside the hole. Use a keyboard and Press and hold CTRL + ALT + SHIFT + R to power wash it.
There is a reset button behind a thin membrane of rubber so it feels like you're pushing on a soft surface but it's actually till you poke through it that you hit the button itself. I think the idea was so that the membrane would hold whatever you use in place so it wouldn't bump into another part of the box inside internally.
What do you do if recovery mode is completely gone? ASUS Chromebox 2 running Zorin OS and trying to install Windows 11. Upgraded ram and SSD. The recovery mode no longer exists so what do I do from here? Windows install gets to the Logo and freezes

That was well over a year ago, and the company has since went into liquidation (thank god I never took the job) anyway I was trying to use it but it won’t let me in as I need to sign into the work account that I never had. Is there anyway of completely removing the admin so I can use it as a normal pc? This method won’t remove the admin. Thank you.

Be sure to have a separate mouse in a separate keyboard connect them into the front USBs sometimes the back will work to and that should resolve your issue. It takes specific keyboard sometimes I don't know why it's so sensitive to that

Now Im working on the 2nd Asus chromebox and still the same problem. After it sat on the white screen for 2hrs, I restarted it and now its reloading again, this time Im loading it wired to the internet. Any tips if this doesn't work?

Paper clip in the restore hole seems to not do anything. I'm stuck.
How do you bypass 'enterprise mode' with an external keyboard? I'm stuck please help!
