      Yeah, for me as well how great rM2 convert handwritten notes - other than English - to text. For me it’s a deal breaker. I would like to see how the competitors do that, bc iPad is bad in that. For me, it’s crucial, I write a long text, than I need to be able to easily use on my computer in different forms.

      Yea, you can select a paragraph of text on the Remarkable app on the PC and you see immediately the result. If it need correction, you can directly do it on the PC itself at the same time.

    If I want to use those Apps I do prefer my iPad. That is the Tablet Computer space. Much faster, better color. The RM is just a digital piece of paper, I really do like that approach. That is the focused thinking and writing space.

    This is the most useful review I've seen. Most remarkable/boox reviews talk about screen feel and likeness to paper experience but this actually shows the functionality. I'm looking at Boox, just need to decide which one!!

      It's looking like there's a new one around the corner (maybe a few more weeks?). It's not clear for certain, but the chatter in the Onyx boox Reddit group is looking increasingly like a possible sequel to the note air 3C might be on its way. I have the go 10.3 and like it pretty well, but I am excited for someday owning a color version that gets better of battery life than the na3c did (I had it for about a week and returned it)

    I have an interiors business so the Paper Pro on the surface should be right up our street. I really want to love their devices. They are well designed. They really look the part but I would liken them to a Porsche with a one litre engine. They look great but don't really perform. I only want to be able to produce a simple document which involves multiple images and text. Not a big ask but not possible apparently. So I sent the Remarkable Paper Pro back for a refund. Still waiting for the money back too. I totally agree with your comments. I find it really frustrating.

    Mickaël Rémond: Yes I agree, the Connect iCloud sync is so great, and no reviewer consider that as a feature. It is so seamlessly. I have also the Supernote and get crazy, how many steps before I get Notes/Docs back between the PC and Supernote. Just an example, if you have a PDF form to fill in with handwriting and sign it. In Remarkable you get the files in the My File system (which take seconds), handwrite in the PDF form, sign it, close the document. Before you know it, your Computer has already the update file. So you can send it back to somebody else. Supernote improved already on it, but it is still not the same. I have no Boox device, so I can't compare.

    ok, so, I found your comparison vey interesting, but I struggle to really grasp what the Remarkable can do in term of saving ideas for example in my Google drive as a GD document. I understand the Boox can do it, but what about the remarkable ? What would be your advice for somebody who works alone but need sometime to give access to a document on his Google drive to a reader/collaborator ? which one should I choose ? I would mainly use my the device to ad notes, some ideas or remarks on an text copied/past from the net, or transform a handwrote text of mine into a taped one I could upload to my Google drive. (then I save it as a .txt to use in a prompter app when I record my videos). I have been considering purchase the remarkable, but just discovered the Boox series. Tx in advance for your input. one thing people, reviewers, don't address with enote taking devices is how to get back to your notes. with Hardcopy notepads you flick through the papers really fast, enote taking devices appear to only be able to slowly shuffly through the pages one by one. So what's the point of taking the notes if you cannot find the notes without going through pain ?

    2 things:
    1) your google auth issue is probably a google problem, not remarkable. And one that isn't ongoing. Google has been upgrading their SSO since July, and in the last two weeks sent out a hard Sign-in for all SSO services. since the first week of October, and all through november, you'll have to do a hard sign-in on all connected services to google accounts. I'd be surprised if you encountered this issue beyond their dumb upgrades.
    2) Still going remarkable. I still think most of these comparisons are moot because they're completely separate products, with completely separate goals.
    Remarkable devices, as of right now, are just notebooks. You have to do post-processing on a notebook with pen paper to share with a group right? You don't just write notes on carbon copies and then give everyone a copy afterwards. It takes two seconds to open the remarkable app, and attach the notes you just took on your PC and send out to the group, using the regular email client on your PC. Which is the duty of a laptop/PC, not a notebook. To your point though, this is a great concept for a modern digital notebook functionality, if done properly.
    You don't cut out an image and paste it into your notebook, why would you expect to drag and drop a jpeg to a notebook? For work, you ask for a copy of the slide deck in pdf format and then upload to your remarkable, and annotate. Again, takes less than 1 second on the laptop, and people already commonly share slide decks out. I don't even want crappy e-ink jpeg versions in my notes, why? A better way to make custom Notebook covers, sure. But jpegs/pngs in my notes? no, thank you.
    You mentioned the Boox stands in "as a tablet", and that is utterly false. The only real strength it has is it's connectivity. My tablet is better for the things you described. Viewing jpegs, email clients, media, etc. And I am not sure what this stuff is on voice notes of a group meeting setting. No e-ink device has the mic setup for that. Thats not even a thing. There is a reason cisco meeting room devices cost hundreds of dollars by themselves. The mics have to be powerful. Any voice recording on a tablet device is meant for personal notes. Like dictating a novel idea, etc.
    Some features that could take Remarkable's 'specific' idea of a modern notebook to a new level are:
    More connectivity and integrations (Proton Drive, Tresorit, home folder on your PC, multiple integrations to incorporate work accounts).
    Linking: create custom links to pages, etc like supernote
    SVG exports in all the places
    Offline/online wikipedia service
    Maybe a partnership with Proton for secure storage
    Calendar
    Compatibility or ability to convert other notebook types into a remarkable notebook

    I started looking into eink tablets for work a few weeks ago and I've watched so many review videos my head is spinning and I'm more confused than ever. All I'm looking for is a digital notebook to replace my handwritten daybook. Colour is important to me as I use colour annotations in my note taking. Storage is important as well as converting the notes into a searchable digital format. Finally I would like a nice writing experience. I'm currently trying out a Boox Go 10.3. I am not sure if the distraction free approach allows an embedment into a digital workflow. I mainly use the rM as an ebook/PDF reader, where I annotate, mark or tag individual pages or phrases while reading on a trip, lazy times or vacation - just readig. another use case is action tracking (the stupid way - noting things down). Both use cases require a lot of post processing in diving through all tags or annotations for actions, which are either fullfilled or then manually moved to GTask.
    For the use case you mentioned on meeting-notes, IMHO the rM serves as a rough book for notes of words spoken, pictures painted. The post processing there as well would be creating "formal" meeting notes derived from the information gathered in the rM - as you never would just put your hand written notes onto a copy machine and send them around using snail mal, do you?
    So in sum, I guess we need to understand the purpose the rM serves under the light of "changing the way we work" and not try to keep the way of working (or the level of unfullfilled expectations) to press the rM into an other workflow, created for or with other tools
    do you agree?

      @KitBetts-Masters  24 дні тому +1

      Hi yes I do agree with a lot of what you say.
      Something I keep returning to that they said in their launch video was that paper doesn't have a workflow. It's just paper and it is incredibly useful and it's still the best way to think through ideas the majority of the time.
      However many people are looking for just one device that they can use as their note taking tablet and have it be incredibly useful and integrate well at work and so I think that a lot of the tools and things that you can do on the boox tablets for example are just going to make more sense of most people at work.
      That being said I'm really excited for what remarkable are planning to do with business integrations. They clearly got some great imaginations in that team and I'd love to as they turn their hands to more product as well as future software updates.

Trying to sell the idea of the Paper Pro as a collaborative platform and pushing large-volume purchases before the needed account structure is even out of beta, seems disingenuous. And that is far from enough: Where is the existing infrastructure to support the broad variety of commercial groupware used by most large organizations? It's clear that Remarkable doesn't know how to make software-their strength is hardware-but they're trying to cover up their big weakness (software) with marketing, claiming that their device avoids distractions, which is why it's a simple notepad with an exorbitant price.
    It makes no sense that basic things like opening a JPG image or offering basic drawing tools like making rectangles, circles, or triangles are said to be distractions.
    The folks at Remarkable think we're stupid and that we'll believe their absurd marketing lines. No, Remarkable, we are not stupid, and it's obvious that your device isn't consciously designed to avoid distractions. The reality is that your software developers don't have enough expertise to match the level of your hardware engineers. The knowledge they have only allows them to implement very basic functionalities, like changing from a 4-character password to a 6-character one, and taking months to do it. It's pathetic...

    • @TheVorst
      @TheVorst 21 день тому +1

      The way I look at this now: I bought the brand new Supernote last year, one reason was the rich functionality (like creating a table of content from your handwriting, in device handwriting conversion, search for content in your handwriting notes, go to webpages). At the end of the day I found that finding back old notes was less convenient then I expected, reading PDF study documents were not convenient enough. Handwriting was certainly OK. Now that I have the Remarkable I realised the restriction, but after a one to 2 weeks, I realised how much less distracted this device was. Handwriting was less restricted, since you have an almost unlimited cavas to work with. Also PDF can be show correctly, with a 2 finger drag, you move it left and down to make place for extra notes. The colours is amazing for the highlighter. It took time how to organise my document/notes. After you find your way, I realise that I could find way better my stuff better than on my Supernote (You really have to think and brainstorm to get this done correct. And that is where most people get disappointed, because they want the device to give that function to them without thinking). When I discover all the gestures that the Remarkable delivered (like switching between different documents quickly). Also the Remakable is simple to use. These are the reason this unit gives a different experience. Many people think it is a replacement of a iPad, but then you get disappointment, it is just an extension for all the devices around you. And you need to innovate yourself, to figure this out, what it is for you.

    • @lorient9201
      @lorient9201 21 день тому +1

      @@TheVorst Let’s stop with the nonsense. We’re old enough to know whether or not we want to get distracted while using Remarkable. When using the Remarkable, we still have a thousand distractions around us, like our phones that we don’t turn off, or a computer to complete our work, or a nearby person talking to us. You can’t avoid distractions. In fact, many of us *want* to get distracted while using Remarkable. Why can’t I distract myself? Is it bad? If you get distracted, does your dad come and hit you like you're a little kid?
      If we really didn’t want distractions, we would do everything possible to make sure they didn’t happen. We don’t need a company to take away features from a device so we don’t get distracted. If a company has to make sure you don’t get distracted, it means you haven’t matured, and you need a mature person to tell you what’s good for you.
      Having the ability to open different document formats on a device doesn’t distract you. Having the ability to draw geometric shapes on a device doesn’t distract you. Having more tools on a device doesn’t distract you *if you don’t want it to.* The reality is that Remarkable just doesn’t have the level to develop complex tools.
      If Remarkable really wanted to avoid distractions, it would have a button to turn them on and off. That way, the device would have the same features as its competitors and the option to disable them at certain times. But the reality is something very different: Remarkable invented this idea of avoiding distractions to cover up its major shortcoming, which is that because it doesn’t use an Android operating system, it can’t compete with all the apps that can be installed on other devices.
      Let’s be sensible and stop repeating Remarkable’s slogan about distractions like parrots. The reality is that Remarkable’s software is terrible and very, very basic. Its programmers are not up to the level of the hardware they’ve created, and since they know they can’t compete with the thousands of Android apps on other devices, they try to cover up their weaknesses with marketing, trying to turn them into a supposed advantage.

      What I suggested 6 years ago (must be when it launched) was that the pencil could also have white color.
      All the pencil does is add vector based strokes with a black noice pattern of different spacing based on pressure = with this you can shade down your sketch to black. Great. But what if you want to make it lighter = shade up to white? Well then you have no such tool at all = really hard to draw one it.
      And as they focused on notetaking and not artist target group then never even replied. I guess they did not want to "confuse" a user as a real pencil only makes it darker (although most people have used colored pencils I bet)
      They could have used basically same code. Just changed so instead of setting pixels to black they would be set to white. And the work UI wise would just be to add a color swatch to the pencil tool, just as they had in all the other tools.
      But nooo 6 years later and still no way to shade up your sketch. Which is a pity because this is the only thing really lacking making it a devent art sketchbook as well...

    reMarkable Pro? The worst E Ink from this company! Terrible writing and flickering. I think 2 ram is definitely not enough.
