Really cool idea. I like the little bit of shaking at the start; gives the look of a hand-held shot as it follows the talent. Perfect for the one man crew.
I love your DIY projects. This was especially interesting. I contributed to a Kickstarter campaign for the Wiral LITE Cable Cam. It's a great prosumer device and works well. Now you can buy it for $400, so yours beats it on price alone. You can use the remote to control the movement speed and direction. It does have a time lapse mode with three speeds. I've had my Panasonic GH4 on it, which is near the limit of it's capacity. it is quite bouncy and sways back and forth a bit. If you are gentle with the speed changes it works out okay. The best thing to put on it is a 360 camera with good digital stabilization built in. This solves most of the movement issues.
Nice idea, always appreciate your inventiveness! Maybe try adding a cheap winch to one end to take out the slack as to minimise the sway and give the cam-car a little less elevation to deal with for a more constant speed.
I wonder if a spinning wheel below would stabilize it? You would only need the plate to spin for a moment so maybe you could just have a central hub that could be engaged with an electric drill to get it spinning so the plate would not need a motor, just a bearing and a way to attach it to the bottom of the camera.
I think you can get very high strength fishing line that has a very thin steel cable core. That would allow you to pull the line much more taut, and it would be able to support the weight of the rig without stretching as much. Either way, this is a great idea to try for small cameras!
To be honest, not too bad for $10! The last videos weren't that shaky to me. Here's my idea on how to improve your idea. So the phone ads wait causing the mechanism to shake and struggle right? Well what if we attach something small like a DJI Osmo Pocket? The camera is small enough to attach and it can hang upside down. Oh and also, it's a mini stabilizer cam! I'll try this idea if I'm able to find that gadget. Sorry for the long comment.
I wonder if either a higher poundage monofilament would have fixed the sagging or a multi fiber fisher line like spider line would have been better? Great idea and video!
try fluorocarbon or braided fishing line (fluorocarbon is clear) Both of these types of fishing line don't have as much to almost no stretch compared to monofilament. That is why the fishing line was stretching.
I used this method for my recent UA-cam series! It was a success!! Take a look I’ve used this in every video I’ve posted so far thanks so much! Great idea
Honestly I think the cable rig itself is cool but what's holding this idea back from being sick, when it comes down to it, is just the low quality of the phone. Maybe if you used a GoPro it would be a bit more high res, as well as lighter?
Hey man I made this setup thanks a lot, hung the osmo pocket from it as well and the video I made turned out great! Check my channels only video I posted to see it in action.
@@knoptop Yes, I ran face track it works well. I found it works better though if you track an object, osmo pocket can loose tracking if you move out of frame to quick, or turn you head for to long. Currently working on your 360 degree PVC idea, great channel and content keep it up!

Nice to see another person willing to try out of the box ideas to accomplish an altogether different idea!

i love these videos where you experiment with stuff.

I am currently working on this build, funny you commented this a year ago

Oh that's awesome! I never got around to this because I couldn't find the cable car.
@@NotAloneStudios they have them on amazon!

Oh ok then I'll order one soon, thanks.
I'm thinking, is that your garden? It's enormous. I want it.
what if you used 550 paracord.. pulled it super tight.. and put an O ring on the drive wheel to give it grip over the plastic finish...
I wonder if either a higher poundage monofilament would have fixed the sagging or a multi fiber fisher line like spider line would have been better?
Great idea and video!
maybe a go pro 7 with hypersmooth on might make it a bit better
That's what I was thinking to since action cameras are small.
I love this idea!! Definitely going to store it away in the back of my brain for some future use.
Your only using 8lbs fishing line try using a higher poundage and it shouldn’t stretch as much
Man that is beautiful. Great job, you have earned a new subscriber :)
Cool idea as usual

Awesome! You found something I can use!
Yaaaaaas! Worth the wait. Seemed under powered. Lawn mower review in the works?
Very cool, does the truck fire up? Nice jam session on the ivory keys!
This is Coooooooooooool

9:58 looks good!
Have you tried making a stereo pair? You have the left and right separation.
That's a creative idea! I haven't thought of that.

This is a Cross-eyed no glasses version.
too much slack in thr cable will make the cable sway from any wind.
when the camera slides I think it also films the wire .. so how not to film the wire
Did he jus say he ain’t know Michael Jackson was sponsored by Pepsi??😂 Remember the whole burning his hair thing??lol
Great idea !!!
At 03:04 in this video: *"R.T.F.M."*

Did that can go "TeeHee" when the reverse was activated??
How the reverse mechanism works?
When the switch is tripped and it reverses the power and the motor
Use wire and tighten the cable up more..
Came for the cable car stayed for the old truck. Why hasn't someone restored it?
good question! ...who knows. :(
Gopro mount!!!!
Time to overclock it with a 9 volt battery
Hey man I made this setup thanks a lot, hung the osmo pocket from it as well and the video I made turned out great! Check my channels only video I posted to see it in action.
Dude! Amazing! Osmo pocket is a great idea! Did you run face tracking also?

pepsi can like 1987-1988
more pricey, but still DIY check over here

🙄 nettes Spielzeug....
But it's not DIY, you just purchased the damn thing.
Yep!...and then I custom rigged a camera to it to make it a cable cam. Thanks for watching!
