We got 40 inches! Shoveling for 5 hours the first day was FUN! I now have a back of iron. We didn't lose power. Thank God for a 17 year old who stacked wood on the back porch of the farmhouse 2 days before the storm. Glad you made out ok.

Here in south central PA, we've got about 28 inches plus drifts, depends where you're standing to measure. So grateful for the farmer who will plow out our 1/4 mile long driveway since it's too much for our little plow. Our power stayed on so that was good...had from scratch soup and homemade bread for lunches and popped a pot roast into crock pot for supper. Very pretty as long as you don't have to go anywhere! Glad you're all safe & sound....Now to head out to shovel out the cars.

I remember that storm, I'm in about the same latitude, Southern NY State, we got hit pretty hard too. I wasn't worried, hardly any serious weather gets to us because of the Adirondack mountains and other hills, though we sometimes get blasted. I know why you weren't worried, you know that you and yours are in God's hands, love ya bro :-)

Last January we got a 3ft dump, in 2 days. It was great. When one is prepared the only thing you need to worry about is if the roof can handle the snow. But like you said, if you are not used to it, it can be overwhelming.

    Hopefully it'll melt quick!

Milk, bread, a pot of chili already made, and having the rocket stove in a convenient location seem to be good talismans for keeping the electric running. The snow was lighter in texture than they expected, fortunately. We got a foot here in Knott County, KY, but it wasn't a big deal. FEMA would've gotten stuck on the interstate anyway ;-)

We got about a foot of snow here on the Cumberland Plateau in northern TN. as well! but only a couple of minor power outages in part of the county, that they got back up quickly. We've fared better this time (so far) than during the ice storm last spring! The people here are resourceful and work well together. Blessings to everyone there in my former home area! JOY

My husband is from South Carolina. We had moved to Arizona then up here to Washington state in 2008. That December we had something like 63" of snow. At one point we actually lost one of the dogs, poor thing. I had been living here for years and knew what to expect. He knew it got cold but was still a bit freaked out by the amount of snow lol.

I'm in central Arkansas and we got about 4 inches of snow here. Not near as much as you or others, but there are no good road machines that come out where we live! lol So, we stayed home. We had plenty of extra water, kerosene if the power went out, and lots of food on hand, too. We didn't lose power, but we were ready in case we did. Stay warm!!

Sometimes we would get up to 2' in NM mountains, the cities would shut down but folks in remote areas played in it. Also great for Elk and Deer. In NC if it snowed an inch everyone would panic and clear the roads and grocery stores, I thought it was pretty entertaining to take the kids out on intertubes behind the truck and they thought so too. Enjoy your posts. take care.

Chili and cornbread sounds GOOD! Biggest Holy Crap was the temps this morning.

++ladyb003 I saw your vid Lady. It inspired me as I was shoveling my car out of the drift that had completely covered it today. We got 18 inches here. Seemed like 4 feet when I was shoveling. Our snow was wet and heavy with a thin layer of ice under it. I am sure that I will feel it tomorrow, but I got her done. So glad it doesn't snow like this here on a regular basis.

Thanks for the video. Just wanted to say that certainly does not look like 12"of snow, up here in ND a foot of snow would even cause some problems. Sometimes When I think we got 6"of snow the weather guys would say we only received 2"????? crazy. Maybe our measurements are different up here. Thanks for the vids.

Yes I heard you guys got a lot of snow. It pretty much just missed Michigan. I would say we got probably 4 inches of snow and that was it. But in the past we have seen a foot of snow at a time. This year has been really mild weather in general. I don't mind it though it's kind of a nice change! But I do like this though just because how pretty it looks sitting on the branches and trees.

Get a little hot water heater with a little water pump and run some hose over the floor pump hot water thru the hose so it recycles back into the heater water tank. rewire a 12v fan so you can put it on top and the wind will keep your house battery charged.
