- China has asked the Maldives to pay up $10 million in middle of the pandemic. According to estimates, The Maldives owes China anything between $1.3 billion to $3.2 billion in debt. India has stepped in with $5.6 million as grants for high-impact projects in the Maldives.

After all, China do not honour International Agreements or rulings by International Institutions if they do not suit its selfish interests. Example: The International Court of Justice ruled against China in its maritime territorial disputes with S.E. Asian countries, but China refused to honour these judgments. Hence, it is perfectly okay if the debtor countries don't repay their loans. China will be at a disadvantage because it cannot invade all countries that refuse to repay their debts
