- When it's someone's first time to Taiwan, I always tell them - "you can go to Taipei, but never stay in Taipei". This little island has so much more to offer, and Taipei is not at ALL representative of most of it. Tainan is Taiwan's former capital, oldest city, and a heaven for ALL foodies. Come here and you'll find historic temples, independent shops, the coolest reinvented third-wave coffee houses (think Brooklyn, but wayyyyyyyyy cooler), local delicacies, AMAZING weather year-round, friendly laid-back people, and an irresistible charm you just can't really find anywhere else.

I just went to Tainan and will also agree that it was the best city to visit on my itinerary, and I went to every large city on the west coast during my recent trip. Chiayi was a close 2nd.
Besides you enjoyed Tainan, it looks like Andrew also enjoyed Tainan.
