- We take a trip around Perth, Western Australia and explore Fremantle, the city's famous port! Fremantle Harbour is Western Australia's largest and busiest general cargo port and an important historical site. We were pleasantly surprised to see how beautiful, bustling, and busy the little city was and how it made for a perfect day trip!

👋 Who are we?
Hi there, we're Tom and Angel!
An adventurous couple from Canada who’ve always had a love for travel and the outdoors. So far, we’ve have travelled to 35 countries together!
Since moving from our hometown of Toronto to the beautiful west coast of British Columbia, we’ve been able to experience more of the outdoors than we ever have before. In October 2022, we decided to take the leap. We got on a one-way flight and started slow travelling full time while working our remote jobs.
Join us in our adventures as we live in different countries, seek authentic experiences, try new foods, and learn everything we can about this beautiful world we live in!
Where would you be spending your days in Freo? At the market, the museums, or the beach?
As a lifelong west Australian, hearing you call Freo a “secret” is absolutely hilarious. It may be the most visited place in the entire state. You guys be tripping 😂
foreigners!
"gaol" is pronounced "jail" - it's the "English" way of spelling. Also the Batavia (the ship) was on it's way from Holland TO Batavia (the city) - that's why it was carrying the gate/portico as ballast. And all the silver coins. It's shipwreck in 1629 and following mutiny and horrific bloodshed is the stuff of horror movies. West Australian schoolkids all know about the history of the Dutch East India Company (VoC) and its impact on the west coast long before the east coast of the country was visited by Europeans. Glad that you visited Fremantle.
That makes a lot of sense! I guess we've still got a lot to learn
@@AnywhereGoeshaha don’t worry it was cute that you pronounced it “gowl”. But in all honesty, you wouldn’t know that that’s how we spell jail so you get away with it.
Nothing beats watching the sunset over the ocean, seeing those rolling a waves and the awesome colour above. Great vids peeps 😊
Couldn't agree more! Thanks for watching 😊
Wow, as a Perth-dweller, you guys really do a great tourist video. Well researched and have avoided the cliches.
Thanks for the lovely compliment!
Great video of my old stomping ground guys!
Yep Freo is a great place with lots of cool history, architecture & good vibes! ..plus a rich Australian Rules Football history ⚓
Glad you enjoyed it! What an amazing place!
Great vid, some beautiful scenery. Gaol is the old-fashioned way of spelling “jail”. Still pronounced as jail.
Oh wow, thanks for the info!
Bathers beach while it is the central beach is probably the worst beach in Fremantle, there are some great beaches around Freo.
The tunnel was used by the whaling ships. They would unload in the harbour (Bathers beach, there are remains of the old jetty there) and wheel the catch through the tunnel, up main street to the markets.
Also Kalis fish and chips are much better 😊.
Very cool, thanks for the info! I know what we're trying next time!
You didn’t notice the “decor” at Cicerello’s ( it’s decorated with surfboards kayaks, etc.) with shark bites taken out of them. Below them are the news articles regarding the shark “attack”. It’s easy to get distracted by the aquariums there though.
I did notice the old photos framed on the walls. Really cool to see what the beach looked like before.
the parking tickets I got in that place...while busking in that market.
Go do hmas ovens submarine tour at western Australian maritime museum in Fremantle Australia
If you guys are still in and around Perth and want any tips feel free to reach out.....moved here from the UK 18 years ago. Happy to share any info i have learnt along the way 😊. Happy travels.
We wish we were! But we'd already had to move along.
Hey! I’m a paramedic looking to move over this year from london, can I ask what suburbs in south Perth you would recommend for young couples?
Fremantle & South Fremantle
Beaconsfield
White Gum Valley
Hilton
Melville
Kardinya
Hamilton Hill
Coogee
Bicton
Victoria Park
So far I’m torn between, Fremantle and Victoria park 😂
@ElectricVibez Really depends on a lot of things.
Have you visited Perth before? Do you have work here and where? No where here in Perth is like London. Everywhere is a lot quieter. Fremantle or Freo is great and always something going on but can get quite touristy. It's also on the coast. Victoria Park or the locals call Vic Park isn't touristy more residential with lots of restaurants, bars and coffee shops. Vic Park is closer to the City of Perth. It's a big move, good luck.
@@ElectricVibez they're all close to Freo, except for Victoria Park...which is 5 mins from Perth City.
It depends what life style you want & how much you're prepared to pay for rental or buying etc.
I lived in Eastbourne for 3 yrs in the 90s.
WA is a fantastic state & has Australia's best beaches 👍
Freo was a great place to grow up!
✌️
@@ElectricVibezNOT Vic park. Hami Hill and Hilton (next to each other) are considered lower socioeconomic area - still a lot of government homes, frequent police presence in some parts (although still quite expensive to buy due to proximity to Freo and the ocean). The blocks of land can be quite a bit larger there than the rest. Melville and Kardinya are very blah - urban, don’t have the same vibe as the older suburbs. Coogee is very modern, all new builds, not very green but beachside.
If you are looking for the less modern and more beachy lifestyle stick South Fremantle budget permitting
you discovered the seaweed which sunk our America's Cup Defense , plus, to be honest we didn't expect to hold it agains Stars and Stripes because unfortunately the harbour and the winds and seas favoured a drag race and we were too slow , Now, Sydney harbour r might have been a different story but it was never meant to be.
Still an impressive feat.
Hello. What month did you visit and what was the temperature pls?
We visited in November and the weather was pretty nice! Not too hot, not too cold.
It's HOT!!
It is!
Is the fish n chips better than c lovers?😂😂
Considerably!
rents are in-sane
A "gaol" is pronounced jail. Two versions of spelling the same word, however jail is now the accepted standard.
Yeah... We found out after and felt pretty dumb. But hey, you learn something new every day!
I got married at the Maritime Museum but years later my marriage hit a reef and sank.
🤣🤣
Oof
Fremantle is the best part of Perth. Its not really a city, its in the centre of Perths coastline and is the cities port.
It's definitely our favorite part around Perth, we can't wait to go back!
