    It’s funny how Michael makes his music I love that he used beatboxing to put the stuff in his head out there. The man could not read sheet music but was one of the best beetboxers and so could show the producers how he wanted things to sound

    Fun fact, since Maggie mentioned the producer: the producer for "Beat It" and indeed the entire "Thriller" album, was the legendary Quincy Jones, who worked with Michael on several albums during this period, including (I believe) "Off the Wall", and the follow-up to "Thriller", which was "Bad". Those three albums were arguably the most popular and the most commercially successful of Michael's career.

      @@for-house-stark What makes "Off the Wall" more significant than either of those albums is that it was Michael's first success as a solo artist -- by that I mean as an entity apart from his brothers. And it was also his first collaboration with Quincy Jones as a producer.

      This song "Beat It: was produced by Michael and Quincy Jones. When it is a song that MJ wrote and co-wrote, it is always produced or co-produced by him. When it is songs that he did not write, such as Thriller, Rock With You, Human Nature, etc., the production is only directed by Quincy Jones.

    Eddie Van Halen only played the solo 6:59. The rest of the guitar work was done by session musician Steve Lukather. The Isolated Tracks channel has video of this song with just the guitar parts, and Lukather talks about doing Beat It on Rick Beato's 2nd channel.

    Actually all guitars and bass, except the solo in the middle by Eddy Van Halen, are by another incredible session musician; Steve Lukather. of Toto's fame... he has contributed music to more than 1500 records.

    Eddie Van Halen not only contributed the iconic guitar solo (only the solo) for free, he was in the studio and rearranged the song to make it better. He was uncredited because his band had a clause, but all his bandmates were out of town.

    Steve Lukather played all the guitar parts on this song, apart from the solo (which was done by Eddie Van Halen). Lukather was better known for being the guitarist in Toto. He’s generally considered one of the greatest and most sought after session guitarists ever. A true legend

    The fact is Eddie came in for the solo. He went and redid the whole guitar parts in the song. He told Micheal, Micheal listened to it and loved it.

    Michael was the best, there will never be anyone who compares. He had such a sad life and left us way too soon. I have the making of This Is It tour on DVD but it makes me cry to see what the world lost, so I don't watch it often.

    EVH's style of playing was so complex that they had to find a way to write sheet music for those who wanted to learn how to play the songs he's played. Check out the documentary 'Thriller 40' if you have a chance, it's a good look at the behind the scenes of that album, 40 years after its release.

    I feel He cracks his voice on "scared" because this gives the sence of a weeping, or something. This is just giving you chills, like some is scared and wants to scream. This is a kind of a "scream" I think. Love it too ❤

    So, everybody knows that EVH did the solo, but what most ppl don't know is that when Eddie brought the solo to Michael, he said that he had also changed the arrangement a little. Michael was visibly perturbed, but when he listened to it, he said that it was better and he liked it.

      Where did you read that Michael Jackson was perturbed that Ed changed the arrangement? I’ve never read or heard that anywhere. If anything, Michael Jackson DID say that he was blown away that Ed cared enough to actually do that to make the solo section work better.

    I'm happy that I had the opportunity to go to a Michael Jackson concert in his Dangeous tour, it was fantastic, and for obvious reasons, I won't have that experience again. That was in Dublin.

    This has always been my favorite MJ song. My mom played it ALL the time in the car. Smooth Criminal, Thriller, and Billie Jean are all great, but for me, Beat It is THE MJ song

    Eddie actually changed the song while he was trying to figure out the guitar solo part. Michael came in and Eddie said I hope you don't mind that I changed it. Michael loved the guitar solo and went with Eddies version.

    Michael's management called Eddie Van Halen to see if he is willing to play guitar for Beat It. I think that Michael and Eddie agree that keep Eddie involvement a secret.
    But VH fans knew iconic solo in this song was done by Eddie! Eddie stated that Michael loved the genre of Hard Rock. Now, both of them are jamming in Heaven. RIP MJ and Eddie!

      By the way, Eddie and his older brother, Alex were trained in classical piano by their mother in their home in Indonesia. They are half Dutch and Indonesian. Their parents moved family to USA (Southern California) for better life.

    I've never actually heard it explained how Eddie Van Halen rearranged the song. The guitar solo itself is pretty much done over a verse section, so it makes me wonder if he suggested to Lukather to have that "Beat It" background singing breakdown over E to lead into the solo section. A lot of VH music has that quality, a breakdown section after a chorus to lead into the guitar solo, with the breakdown or the solo sometimes even being in the relative minor key to the song's major key.

    The parody of this song is called FAT. It is by 'Wierd' Al Yankovic. And it is split your gut funny.
    You might also try two of Michael's later hits like JAM and BLOOD ON THE DANCE FLOOR. They are rarely played on reaction channels. Enjoy
