HiDef: Southern 630 on the Rathole 6/7/2014

- On the 50th anniversary of the beginning of the original Southern Railway/Norfolk Southern steam program, Southern 630 ran from Chattanooga, TN to Oneida, TN and back. The trip, which was face-paced and allowed little time for leap-frogging the train, resulted in just a few shots. But oh, were they worth it! 630 was pulling as hard as ever with amazing stack talk at almost every location.
Of interest are the shots at Spring City and Pilot Mountain, where the old girl thundered by with a deafening roar. Please also take note of the fact that this trip was my first while using my new Nikon D3200 to do the filming. And I must say, I think the video and sound quality are both stellar. Please share your thoughts as well!
The sounds are amazing, the cinders are flying, and the scenery is excellent in this spectacular display of steam railroading on a route steeped in history. Enjoy!

I hope before Wick Moorman retires he puts the 630 at the head of an NS intermodal train. That would be the train of a lifetime.
No doubt she will, and if ever 4501 breaks down, 630 is always there to come to her rescue to fill in. :)
After the Norfolk Southern Steam Program ended in 1994, Southern Railway Consolidation 630 came rolling back to life in 2011 which the Norfolk Southern launched the 21st Century Steam Program.
Sound and picture were spectacular. Great footage of a great steam program.

630 is an awesome locomotive. Just as beautiful as 4501, and is perfect for TVR.
I certainly hope that 630 shall still get some mainline action even though 4501 is back. TVRM spent many, many years to get this baby back into steam.
Correct me if I'm wrong but I think this was one of 630's last mainline runs for the NS 21st century steam program.
