Man from Del Rio (1956) directed by Harry Horner and written by Richard Carr. Released on October 30. It stars Anthony "mighty" Quinn, Katy Jurado, Peter Whitney, Douglas Fowley, John Larch, and Whit Bissell in one of his most outstanding roles. A kind of High Noon variation mixing many classical western themes.
What a great classic film, what great acting by all and nice to see Katie Durado in such a central part. Thanks for this and one of the best westerns out there surely.
Thank you for sharing this awesome film. Anthony Quinn and the forever lovely Katy Juardo are among Hollywood's best performers, and it's always a pleasure to watch any film they are in. Thanks again..!😊
@@bryonhogg485 I understand your comment, I was able to stop watching it and came back later to see the last half. Still, I found it interesting and entertaining and most of all, not too corny.
In the world we live in today, that is a very controversial take on things. I agree with him, bc reality agrees with him, with the sentiment, but modern DemocRATs do not.
I believe this should be number 1 to 3 best western movies ever maid, excellent story, excellent acting, excellent finish!unforgiven, good bad and ugly and must be this.
The man who played Ritchie's partner in the opening scene is Jack Hogan, who later starred as Private Kirby in the "Combat!" TV series from 1962-67. He passed away at 94 in December 2023.
I would not denìgrate this film; but, calling it "the most legendary western of all time is NOT warranted. "High Noon", "The Man Who Shot Liberty Valence", "The Good, the Bad, and the Ugly", "The War Wagon", "High Plains Drifter", "Stagecoach", "Destry Rides Again", "McClintock", "Catballou", "Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid", "Once Upon a Time in the West", etc., we tc., etc.
I would not denigrate a fellow commenter but hoping to curtail hyperbolic click bait on the internet, no matter how gently attempted and well-reasoned, is an exercise in futility, evincing an efficacy equivalent to this post of mine.
Woudn't deny anyone their choice but Liberty Valance and Cat Ballou would come under the heading of farcical westerns, Jane Fonda wanting Ballou to be less so. As Lee Marvin figured in both though I'll give him back to your recognition of him for his part in "The Professionals". As legendary as any movie, especially with such a cast of greats, Robert Ryan, Burt Lancaster, Jack Palance and Woody Strode
I Was Ask What Is The Greatest Western I Love All Clean Westerns When I Was Young There Was No Bad Language In Any Movie It Was Against The Law That Is Why I Love Old Movies People had better language.
This reminds me of 'High Noon. ' Even Estella played a part there. The cultural angle is a nice touch; the sheriff is an outsider who is more honest and won't be manipulated by the accepted society or power elite.
Part of the backdrop of Westers is the view of miles and miles of miles and miles, as strange as that might sound. Flat prairie, more often scrub or desert. The 'scrub' or 'desert' is because of the Rocky Mountain Rain Shadow. A real geological and metrological phenomenon going back millions of years. So, between the US' Rocky Mountains to nearly the Mississippi River.
Great western with the brilliant Anthony Quinn and Katy Jurado. Bluffing his way intelligently at the end to avoid a duel with his useless broken wrist, knowing his would be enemy would chicken out and leave town with no blood shed.
When I look at the quality of the movies from the 50's & 60's, and think about the "crapola" from then on, Dear God...I just can't force myself to endure the said "crapola"!!! Apart from being a fully excellent movie; all it really does is put the blow torch on the previous said "crapola"!!! You'll also notice that all great movies start with a fight/brawl/firefight. Brilliant move! But here's the thing; they take ordinary, "very" ordinary people, and make a great movie. "That" is talent and skill!
There's a fine line between COURAGE and STUPIDITY; Davey Robles had a little bit of BOTH. However, young, dumb, and full of... Well, you know the age old story. Great movie 🎥 Phenomenal ending!
This does seem gritty and realistic. Anthony Quine looks like he hasn't had a bath for a year. But it does continue the untrue legend of the fast draw.
It might be legendary to someone or other. IMDB rates it at a pedestrian 6.4. Tomatoes gives it a less-than-rousing 33% score. I've seen it. It's okay.
With Randolph Scott and James Stewart making movies for all of the 50’s ..and the running time of this one 81 minutes…I wouldn’t call this the most iconic western of all time…John Wayne was also making one every year it seemed from the 1930’s through the 70’s..and a lot of these other westerns are considered classics…by film historians…
Good movie, but it suffers from the same mistakes Hollywood made with these films. The props are not correct. The gunleather is pure Hollywood, and the revolvers are always Colt 1873. The reality is far different. Hickock used Colt .36 caliber percussion revolvers. Those "fast draw" rigs did not exist. Lucas McCain used an 1892 Winchester and the time of the series was prior. Even John Wayne use the 1892 in "The Searchers". Now Matt Dillion did use correct style holster and gun belt in the early "Gunsmoke" episodes. Lastly, there are few instances of "meeting in the street" for a "showdown".
Anthony Quinn is one of the greats. But a legendary Western movie? Legendary Westerns are movies that have Clint Eastwood, Robert Taylor, Burt Lancaster act in. Quinn was amazing in The Guns Of Navarone.
It's funny how archetypes live in Hollywood...Anthony Quinn and Javier Bardem are the same archetype. Jack Nicholson, and believe it or not, Leonardo DiCaprio are the same archetype. Audrey Hepburn and Natalie Portman, Clint Eastwood and Hugh Jackman...
'The most legendary western of all time'. Please. In YOUR OPINION. It's great but not legndary like Peckinpah's The Wild Bunch , Ford's The Searchers , High Noon , Corbucci's Django & Great Silence , And......Leone's films.
This is NOT the most legendary western of all time; not even close. It is, though, a solidly-acted if over-talky little oater that could have been an episode of the Gunsmoke series. It even shares the original town set owned by Gene Autry.
Please ! Put the names of the movies in your intros or ... for me I'll just delete your channel and move on . We all know that if we click on your channel even just to see which movie it is you get a pay . Your waisting our time .
This is FAR from the most legendary western! I wouldn't rank it in the top 10. Although good performances by Anthony Quinn and Katy Jurado. I want my western heroes to be straight up top guns fighting injustice not a wannabe gunfighter who confuses a gun and a bottle!
So, at 59.30, the so-called 'tough guy' slaps a woman in the face. That's the sort of thing I'd expect cowardly Donald Trump would do...when no-one was looking. Oh, and the stunt man in the bar fight scene at 1.02 looked more like Mother Teresa than Anthony Quinn. Anyway, this has to be one of the lowest budget films ever, but it was still entertaining...apart from the scenes I just highlighted.

Wonderful indeed. So many westerns and films in general are corny but this one had something special.
The direction seems lacking - It's not that compelling - It's a B Western flick . . .

Absolute 1st class western, Anthony Quinn at his very best! Worth watching just for the fist fight in the bar alone.

Touching your heart with a huge twist by the end makes it the classic of classics! If it turns out to be a tragedy, it is even greater !
Legendary, giant Anthony Quinn always great in any acts, very natural and real.

But the longest to die

The best of the best; Shane and High Noon. And maybe Stagecoach.
The Searchers too
The opening set for the movie was reused in 'Last Train from Gun Hill' 1959, starring Quinn and Douglas.
Anthony Quinn also played an excellent role as Barabbas
