WOW!! What an incredible difference!!!! One of the best chicken yards I’ve ever seen! Have you ever considered letting your chicken free range? Isn’t it amazing how propagating bushes can have you growing so much free food?! Currently I’m living in downtown Toronto in a loft style apartment growing so much of my own veggies using hydroponics! I had no idea how much could grow with just nutrients and water!!! I grew two sweet pepper plants inside with just grow lights and south facing windows that were each more then six feet tall and four feet wide! They kept producing sweet peppers year round it was absolutely incredible and I hand pollinated each one. I grew a head of broccoli and so many greens and I grew a very large tomato plant and a wall of cucumbers that were self pollinating. It’s absolutely incredible and the lettuce I had growing in rows of DIY tubing and a self watering system of a slight water flow and the lettuce and herbs grew with just the nutrient rich water and grow lights. It was a challenge and with each experiment and success it spurred me on to do even more. Unfortunately when my grand babies came along my hydroponic experiments were put on hold. I’d love to have silkie chickens perhaps one day! Until then I’ll keep watching your videos which just help me continue dreaming of one day. ❤️🥰🇨🇦🙏🏻🍁

Thanks! The only down side to free-ranging chickens is that they dig up and destroy EVERYTHING. When they get loose they create quite a mess in a short amount of time. I would like to have my husband build a chicken tractor that I could move from place to place while keeping them away from things I don't want destroyed. How you grow things sounds amazing. You are very creative. It's wonderful to grow your own food in any way you can.

I truly love your home and your gardens. And all of the things that you both are doing together, especially considering you just started all this 5 years ago! You are truly living the dream and sharing it with the rest of us. That's not to say it's not hard work and a lot of trial and error, no doubt. I'm in the same age group as you both are and my husband passed 5 years ago. So watching you makes my heart smile because It's all the things we loved to do ❤

Merci pour les gentils mots et les encouragements. Nous aimons nos animaux. Mes « filles » sont peut-être gâtées, mais elles nous donnent de délicieux œufs. Merci d'avoir regardé!

I grew an elderflower in a pot for the last few years and now after watching your video I will move that up to my chicken run so that they can get some shade from that and also the berries. Our chickens free range all over our property but currently we have bird flu starting to creep around Australia so we are now going through the process of fixing down our enclosed area to be more user friendly to our chickens but will keep out the native birds which appear to be carrying the virus. Our gorgeous chickens and our rooster survived the black summer bushfires here with us so Im going to move heaven and earth to make sure that this bird flu virus doesn’t get to them. I was supposed to have a biggest morning tea for cancer funding this weekend but as people come from all over the south of Australia to our area during the winter I don’t want to take the chance of someone bringing this onto our property. Thanks for your video

Oh my, I'm glad to hear that they all made it through the bushfires. We also have the bird flu near here too. So far we've been fortunate not to have any problems here on the farm. Best of luck with your flock.

After watching this, I immediately purchased seeds for daisies, sage, comfrey and yarrow. Will also put bricks around my trees!

Awesome. It's a challenge to keep things growing, but I love having beautiful flowers and trees in and around the chicken area. If you do comfrey, make sure it's the sterile kind or else you will have it EVERYWHERE. I bought mine as root cuttings. Once you get 1 plant it's easy to propagage from your own root cuttings. It's an amazing plant.

It really works. If they can peck/dig down to the roots, they will. This is the only way I've been able to keep bushes/trees alive in the run.

@@waardenburgfamilyfarm4764 of course you will... I've been revamping ours as well, however ours free-range with goats and sheep and of course our 210lb LGD Charlie who's a Turkish Akbosh... so the Halks, Eagles, and Owls don't bother ours... they did before Charlie... we live next to a tree forest so we also have hogs, a Mountain Lion, Fox, Racoon, Wolf, Coyote, Armadillo, and all kinds of other preditors...
You've given me some great ideas however to add a bit more- gonna have to figure out the sheep&goat situation, however...
