I love the quality of the figure being a part of your review. I would love an engineer from Hasbro, not in a negative way, just an informative one, go through the science of how different figures can have plastic that seems so obviously different. I'm sure not everyone views plastic quality the same way, so it would be interesting to hear the science and the decision making between this starscream and override. Thanks again!
Remember when a $30+ mid sized transformer actually did something? Tiny, no lights, sounds, or gimmicks. Not even firing missiles. The tossed nostalgia accessories are insulting.
I like the better articulation. But it still should have had the minicon and blast effects and a bigger wing sword. It doesn’t need to have the spring loaded gimmicks because that’s what takes away from the articulation and that’s what I think people didn’t like about the originals.
You are correct about variable plastic quality. My theory: I wonder if the toys are made at different factories by different contractors. The siege range was nearly universally high quality but since then Hasbro struggled with supply due to COVID and the plastic quality has been more variable. My guess is that they reached out to other suppliers/factories. There is no way the same factory that made seige Starscream and Sideswipe also made Earthrise Ironhide, skids and this armada starscream. I also noticed differences on the dinobots: SS86 Grimlock and Slug have good plastic but Sludge is appalling in my opinion. If you look at Grimlock's black thigh plastic and Sludge's you can see the difference- Grimlock thighs feels solid whereas Sludge's are flexible which is why his hips and knees were floppy. Even the gray plastic has a slightly different colour and density. I am almost certain that the designers of both intended for the same colour and type of plastic to be used across the dinobots but Hasbro cheaped out in the manufacturing of Sludge.
I think the designers also factored in the transformation to the plastic type they use. They can use thicker plastic on Override or Blaster since they are simpler and the parts don't have to do much.
thank you my friend... everyone's hating on me for hating on a figure they supposedly love... anyway, i'm just being honest... who knows how they do it man... it's one factory but the designers have a wierd way of deciding the quality of plastic for each product i suppose...
His arms do a Powerglide in jet mode, I didn't think I'd see that in a figure this modern. Still, he looks pretty good. I wonder if they identified issues in the plastic they were using for Siege/ER/Kingdom with the yellowing issue, so they're using something else here?
yes they do oh i'm not sure if they even do that like check for yellowing issues... usually they just pick out the cheapest material for their products nowadays, i think...

37 dollars isn't bad for your neck of the woods. just put some blast effects in the shoulder cannons. As to the quality, I'll have to check it in hand to really judge.
So far ive picked up 2 figures after not collecting for so long i wae so hyped for some of these realeases especially Armada Starscream but after picking him up i have issues with the legs they pop off the mushroom pegs its discouraging 😞 because ive always wanted an armada figure thag was more articulated but just wish it was better quality ...the OG executed engineering better and worked
I totally agree, people just don’t notice the quality of plastic. You feel it, and can see it next to the better quality figures. It feels so flimsy and bendy. Hasbro is making a lot of money out of transformers, but I quess they want more and more. At least give us normal plastic.
yeah, exactly, thanks man i mean people hate it when i complain too much or whine too much, but i'm trying to do the community a favor and save them some money... and i'm just being honest, just look at the tons of hasbro products i've praised, but when i pan a review of a figure, everyone hates me for it...
The deluxe is clearly the superior figure. It even has a landing gear which they are no longer bothering with in modern figures. For crying out loud are they that cheap they can't mold a damn landing gear in jets anymore? They should have just upscaled the deluxe to a voyager size, keep both swords as they were and we would have a far better voyager now.
Considering adult collectors aren't going to be playing with these toys heavily, I think you are overly focused on plastic quality. 20 years ago, kids actually played with the toys.
@@chefatron I handle my toys more than most adult collectors too. To take pictures mostly. I love that you play with the toys you review and zoom them around. Makes me smile.
This is a superb review and I absolutely hands down agree I got my Starscream today. I grew up with Armada toys. So you can understand the pain. This just isn’t good enough Hasbro! 😡
oh thank you so much my friend! everyone's saying i'm complaining too much, but i feel totally vindicated now, especially that several of you guys have confirmed my assessment of this figure
I'm sorry to hear that, but what a coincidence as hasbro is killing beyblade for the exact same reasons, cheapness , lack of details, removing gimmicks that exist on takara tomy beyblades, that I call investors cut, and both transformers and beyblade are made in exact same plant in Vietnam... in conclusion they don't care about the fans , it's only to maximize profit with products that are worse then fakes...
The thigh mushroom pegs i mean WTH is that why couldn't hasbro design it with a backing to hold the leg in place and secure it well enough to the peg so it didnt have a choice to pop off when u rotate it
Thanx now i want this starscream more he looks great Now they need to Make a Demolisher Cyclonus Sideways And Tidalwave and maybe a Thrust. those characters Like Thunderblast Ransack and Crumblezone all need legacy makes Even a Scourge the Dragon from cybertron would be great. the only thing i did not like about Cybertron Metroplex was no Drillbit they coulda made him a bigger size or another bot and minicon drill bit only Titan not to come with another figure.
The transformation engineering borrowed a lot from the old deluxe class armada starscream. I wonder does the designers have much to say about the material approval, unless it’s largely involved with play patterns or safety. It could be either the decisions of the corporate fat cats in the Hasbro huge corner offices, or even the contractor vietnamese factories.
As questionable as the engineering and plastic quality on this figure is, you gotta at least appreciate that his forearms don't have a big ol gap on the back of them, unlike some other recent figures whose transformations involve folding the fists into the arms.
I think hasbro CEO said cut back on the quality after kingdom 🤔... because that line had gems 💎 but bad to .. tracks / waspinator being naff quality. Even commander class motormaster trailer... now this.. siege/ earthrise are the best
I like the figure, once I get it I'll know if the quality of the plastic is good or bad, at least doesn't abuse the use of soft plastic like SS DotM Shockwave.
I pretty sure that when the obvious toy hacks stickers will fix the paint job and DNA design or some other company will fix some of the problems like the loose leg ports in jet mode and the lack of a wing sword and mini con port
I'm super disappointed. Armada Starscream is my favorite Starscream. I'm not real into buying Transformers toys anymore (or toys in general) and as such Siege Optimus in 2019 and Legacy Dragstrip last summer are the first Transformers figures I've bought in maybe 10 years or more. Despite this I was pretty excited to get this guy. I really just want to get a bunch of Starscream toys in general and so I was hoping this figure would be good so he could stand next to a possible Earthrise Starscream if I ever got one of those. I might still get this guy but only if I can get him cheaper.
I have a cheap KO of Six Wing thats about 15 years old... The plastic sounds and looks the same as this. In NZ this figure is going to retail from $65-100 and in no way, shape, or form is it worth that based on your review. Not that I own it but there's a Cyberverse Deluxe Starscream that looks like its of similar size and much better quality that is available here and like $20+ cheaper.
i can very well understand why they don't use the glossy white plastic from override on other figures, it holds paint about as well as a whiteboard. the red paint rubs off with the lightest contact.
@@chefatron i'm still waiting for my legacy starscream so i can't compare, but some of the parts on earthrise starscream do feel cheap or flimsy to me. like the wings and how they connect to the body, or the collarbone panel that i'm really careful with because i'm afraid it'll snap when squeezing it during transformation.
that's exactly what I've been saying! and everyone's giving me a hard time for crapping on this figure... thank you for validating my opinion on this figure
@@chefatron I still wanted to get it anyway cus nostalgia is strongggg. And honestly thought "it can't be that bad right"... But damn it CAN be that bad xD. It honestly wasn't worth the money I spend on it. Hotshot deluxe and even core class feels miles better. I genuinely feel like I'ma break the legs every time I transform him with how cheap they feel. I managed to fix the loose shoulder with glue and plastic sheet but no idea how I'ma fix the legs.
Chefatron disappointed on armada Starscream legacy Me: CybertronOptimus with SiegeGalaxyUpgrade I fell you man Its an insult to a collector. While I'm reading the comments some collectors saying ahh chef is ranting again ahh face with it Bruh If you read this there will be a time that your Favorite Transformers will cheapen the plastic by Hasbro you'll get the feeling we should get what we've paid for Heh in the long run While Hasbro starting to ruin its brand Maybe in the future core class figures becomes deluxe or voyager price point And to some collectors you should wake up
It's such a shame - I was over the moon for Armada figures but then they were revealed and they just look like ass. There's good things about the updates but one thing I'm really turned off by is obvious compromises or missed opportunities - the accessories are a big part of that, it sucks.
Its not a Fuss its very much Deserving a Fuss especially if we're paying for this type of quality its not worth it!! We need figures that will stand the test of time we need better quality figures at these prices..we deserve Quality ....what's the point if the quality isn't there
It's always going to be 50/50 here, people who call out Hasbro and folk who'll defend them no matter what?! I remain neutral on it all and I'll always try to by an original/older variant over a new one. You own both therefore you can call it and if you grew up in older better times in collecting, then it just makes everything more insulting now if you grew up with better decades ago. It's a no win situation here tbh...
I have no attachment to the Armada character, cartoon, or figure, so not including any of the gimmicks is a good thing for me. I don't care for that sliding pin for the shoulder transformation. That looks cheap and something a 3rd party company would do. I do like that it's the same size as Earthrise Starscream. In my head canon, Armada Starscream will be a "What if Starscream was also reformatted by Unicron?" Starscream. I would name him "Chronus".
I already had questions surrounding the quality of the design, lack of minicon port and cuckup on both his wing sword and sad excuse for a starsaber... Then I saw what an absolute midget it was... And now the plastic is also a point of concern. Hasbro, the f are you doing!? Even the Generations Deluxe has more going for it than this waste of plastic. And now I'm curious: could it be heavier as well? Thanks for the review Chefs'. Saved me €40. Back in the day you paid €15... And got that giant Megacon Starscream with electronic features, gimmicks and a minicon... Not to forget a comic and backstory on the back... For most countries available in three languages.
yeah, it's just sad... no prob, man, glad i could help 🙂 oh yeah, those were the good old days.! i feel bad complaining back then about the prices of toys... nowadays... astronomical prices smh...
@@chefatron It is, yeah. And you really did! He popped up on my radar on the cheap so I checked him out for myself. All my points stand except for the cheap plastic and the comparison to the generations variant. Plastic feels OK, but being a very compact vehicle and a small voyager looks to be more the issue. If anything it were all the loose hinges that annoyed. The generations feels very outdated now that I have the Legacy next to it. The latter being more true to the original design. I admit it has grown on me a bit, being a screamer fan. Thanks for replying and keep up the awesome reviews!
I thought it looked good. I’m not getting it either way though, because I prefer Star Saber as an actual Autobot (the Victory version, not the trash version that showed up in Lost Light).
Dang. I was pretty excited for this one. I wish they wouldn't cheap out on major characters. Still might pick him up at retail, but not going to order him online. Man figure looks so good, what a shame...

oh thank you so much my friend! i feel so validated now! please tell all these haters who think i'm just over-reacting with the plastic quality to... you know...
My Starscream is pretty flimsy unfortunately, however I think the plastic itself seems fine. I am annoyed that we don't get his minicon, a bigger star saber and the fact those legs don't tab into the back.
Out of place questions. Which one is better studio series blackout or grindor? Looking to get one. Thank u. If anyone can give their inputs, would be great.

I agree with you 100% we are paying so much yet we are getting so little. That’s why I canceled my pre order of this figure. I’m now buying older transformer figures at this point
Truthful review as always! Bought this about 2 weeks ago. Been enjoying the articulation, but you are very correct about the low-grade plastic quality compared to Unicron Trilogy toys. Parts on the mushroom pegs also slip off easily. Had to trim off a lot of excess plastics/sprue bits here and there. I pair him with a spare Armada Swindle which 'powerlinxes' with the tiny 'Stardagger' & attaches to the main robot. Been having fun with it, albeit carefully. Also the jet mode compresses greatly looking more like a Deluxe vehicle oddly.
hahaha thanks so much my friend 🙂 cool, bro, i'm glad i'm not the only who noticed... that's cool bro yes, i agree, man, engineering-wise, it's great, but the quality... just sucks...

yeah, but don't pay too much for it, perhaps get it on clearance or during black friday sale?
At least give us normal plastic.
yeah, exactly, thanks man
i mean people hate it when i complain too much or whine too much, but i'm trying to do the community a favor and save them some money...
and i'm just being honest, just look at the tons of hasbro products i've praised, but when i pan a review of a figure, everyone hates me for it...
The deluxe from half a decade ago handled the weapons and arms in jet mode better, that says something
@@SilverSonic2099 true. The only jet that I know that has landing gear I Cyclonus. But we all know he's awesome.
yes perhaps
@@SilverSonic2099 yeah sadly
So, it's Hunt for the Thrilling 30, then.
well, i suppose, but i thought that figure was too small, though...
Considering adult collectors aren't going to be playing with these toys heavily, I think you are overly focused on plastic quality. 20 years ago, kids actually played with the toys.
oh i play with my toys bro...
i feel like i'm gonna break this thing... actually, i do feel like breaking this thing... LOL
@@chefatron I handle my toys more than most adult collectors too. To take pictures mostly. I love that you play with the toys you review and zoom them around. Makes me smile.
@@NickBartolo awesome stuff bro! 🙂
I'm sorry to hear that, but what a coincidence as hasbro is killing beyblade for the exact same reasons, cheapness , lack of details, removing gimmicks that exist on takara tomy beyblades, that I call investors cut, and both transformers and beyblade are made in exact same plant in Vietnam... in conclusion they don't care about the fans , it's only to maximize profit with products that are worse then fakes...
yeah, i think you're right man... greed is just the thing now for this company
The thigh mushroom pegs i mean WTH is that why couldn't hasbro design it with a backing to hold the leg in place and secure it well enough to the peg so it didnt have a choice to pop off when u rotate it
Just asking… but if you add the accessories to the armada weight, does it inch closer to earthrise?
nope, the accessories' weight is negligible
It's still a good figure regardless. Just got him today, never regretting it.
Bean counters man you got to love them I don't care about the plastic I love this figure
Thanx now i want this starscream more he looks great Now they need to Make a Demolisher Cyclonus Sideways And Tidalwave and maybe a Thrust. those characters Like Thunderblast Ransack and Crumblezone all need legacy makes Even a Scourge the Dragon from cybertron would be great. the only thing i did not like about Cybertron Metroplex was no Drillbit they coulda made him a bigger size or another bot and minicon drill bit only Titan not to come with another figure.
no prob 🙂yes, let's hope they do so
The transformation engineering borrowed a lot from the old deluxe class armada starscream. I wonder does the designers have much to say about the material approval, unless it’s largely involved with play patterns or safety. It could be either the decisions of the corporate fat cats in the Hasbro huge corner offices, or even the contractor vietnamese factories.
i don't know man... i think they prefer cheaper materials so they can get higher profits
As questionable as the engineering and plastic quality on this figure is, you gotta at least appreciate that his forearms don't have a big ol gap on the back of them, unlike some other recent figures whose transformations involve folding the fists into the arms.
hahaha true!
I think hasbro CEO said cut back on the quality after kingdom 🤔... because that line had gems 💎 but bad to .. tracks / waspinator being naff quality. Even commander class motormaster trailer... now this.. siege/ earthrise are the best
yes perhaps. but most of the 2023 offerings are showing some promise with hasbro getting back to better quality for figures
it should be titled "Epic Frustrations from Chef!" 😂😂😂😂😂😂
with the occasional subtitles of cursing and swearing. "tangnang Hasbro `to"
hahahahaha o nga bro LOL
Anyone else sad he didn’t come with his minicon partner swindle?
maybe hasbro is going to release him as a micromaster or weaponizer ?
I like the figure, once I get it I'll know if the quality of the plastic is good or bad, at least doesn't abuse the use of soft plastic like SS DotM Shockwave.
cool bro
mine is still in transit also from HK hehe. Now I'm half excited and disappointed lol
oh wow, sorry man... just calling it how it is...
you might still enjoy the figure, though... just don't set your expectations too high
I pretty sure that when the obvious toy hacks stickers will fix the paint job and DNA design or some other company will fix some of the problems like the loose leg ports in jet mode and the lack of a wing sword and mini con port
yes i suppose
Does it have the same feel of the SS Movie 1 Rachet?
it feels cheaper, to be honest
I'm super disappointed. Armada Starscream is my favorite Starscream. I'm not real into buying Transformers toys anymore (or toys in general) and as such Siege Optimus in 2019 and Legacy Dragstrip last summer are the first Transformers figures I've bought in maybe 10 years or more.
Despite this I was pretty excited to get this guy. I really just want to get a bunch of Starscream toys in general and so I was hoping this figure would be good so he could stand next to a possible Earthrise Starscream if I ever got one of those. I might still get this guy but only if I can get him cheaper.
yeah, me too bro
well, if you've pre ordered this figure, i suggest you keep it and see for yourself if i was a bit too harsh
@@chefatron I didn't preorder it but I'll keep an eye out for it.
@@animeking1357 that's cool bro
You can fold the red back piece down and there a slot hole for the minicon
and no minicon port in back and arm just like the original toy.... meanwhile legacy hot shot have one in stock photos :c
yeah, i know right?!
I love him but disappointed with the execution of him 😢
How does the plastic quality compare to SS Ratchet (Bumblebee movie) ?
in my opinion, this one's worse...
I'm actually ok with the plastic quality of that mold BB movie ratchet and ironhide...
Hasbro needs to fix this .
definitely
Even though there’s loads of good and bad with this figure I’m still going to get it for the Starsaber so I can give it to the upcoming Hot Shot.
that's cool bro
It is a cool and great Starscream Armada Legacy for me.
that's cool bro
This is one of those NPC thirteen year old child comments
Is it worth it for $20 tho?
I have a cheap KO of Six Wing thats about 15 years old... The plastic sounds and looks the same as this. In NZ this figure is going to retail from $65-100 and in no way, shape, or form is it worth that based on your review. Not that I own it but there's a Cyberverse Deluxe Starscream that looks like its of similar size and much better quality that is available here and like $20+ cheaper.
well, you can always wait for this one to go on clearance bro, so you won't feel bad about paying too much for it
i can very well understand why they don't use the glossy white plastic from override on other figures, it holds paint about as well as a whiteboard.
the red paint rubs off with the lightest contact.
yes perhaps, but they could have used the Earthrise Starscream plastic right?
@@chefatron i'm still waiting for my legacy starscream so i can't compare, but some of the parts on earthrise starscream do feel cheap or flimsy to me.
like the wings and how they connect to the body, or the collarbone panel that i'm really careful with because i'm afraid it'll snap when squeezing it during transformation.
@@Marvin_R oh trust me bro, the plastic on Earthrise Starscream will feel very premium compared to the the plastic on this Armada Starscream
Just got it few days ago and yep feels cheap. Hips and 1 arm are super loose. And seeing as it all pins idk how I would tighten any of it
that's exactly what I've been saying! and everyone's giving me a hard time for crapping on this figure...
thank you for validating my opinion on this figure
@@chefatron I still wanted to get it anyway cus nostalgia is strongggg. And honestly thought "it can't be that bad right"... But damn it CAN be that bad xD. It honestly wasn't worth the money I spend on it. Hotshot deluxe and even core class feels miles better. I genuinely feel like I'ma break the legs every time I transform him with how cheap they feel.
I managed to fix the loose shoulder with glue and plastic sheet but no idea how I'ma fix the legs.
@@all-xh1979 I feel your pain bro
the original version is still better imo
Kaya nanood muna ako ng review mo bago ako bumili ng Transformers
salamat bro!
Come on man the plastic can’t be worse than the Universe 2.0 Hot Shot or Reveal The Shield Rodimus from the two pack with Cyclonus.
that's debatable... but i think this is worse
Chefatron disappointed on armada Starscream legacy
Me: CybertronOptimus with SiegeGalaxyUpgrade I fell you man
Its an insult to a collector. While I'm reading the comments some collectors saying ahh chef is ranting again ahh face with it Bruh If you read this there will be a time that your Favorite Transformers will cheapen the plastic by Hasbro you'll get the feeling we should get what we've paid for Heh in the long run While Hasbro starting to ruin its brand Maybe in the future core class figures becomes deluxe or voyager price point And to some collectors you should wake up
thank you so much my friend, so very well said!
stop buying hasbro to send the message
well, not all their products are bad. i have high praises for the Legacy Predacon Inferno figure... check out my review
the armada starscream and earthrise reminds me of ace combat zero
cool!
Well I am glad I saw your review of this figure before I bought it, I was going to sell my original Armada Starscream but I think I will just keep it.
oh yeah, keep the original figure, so much better quality
It's such a shame - I was over the moon for Armada figures but then they were revealed and they just look like ass. There's good things about the updates but one thing I'm really turned off by is obvious compromises or missed opportunities - the accessories are a big part of that, it sucks.
yeah let's just hope future releases are better
This just proves that the only real problem with modern day Transformers is the plastic quality.
sometimes, the engineering as well
Its not a Fuss its very much Deserving a Fuss especially if we're paying for this type of quality its not worth it!! We need figures that will stand the test of time we need better quality figures at these prices..we deserve Quality ....what's the point if the quality isn't there
well said man
It's always going to be 50/50 here, people who call out Hasbro and folk who'll defend them no matter what?! I remain neutral on it all and I'll always try to by an original/older variant over a new one. You own both therefore you can call it and if you grew up in older better times in collecting, then it just makes everything more insulting now if you grew up with better decades ago. It's a no win situation here tbh...
perhaps
I can agree with the Star Saber and the wing accessory. But the plastic??? I mean we ain't going to bang the figure around with other objects.
yeah, sadly
i sometimes forget your a filipino like me
hahaha
I have no attachment to the Armada character, cartoon, or figure, so not including any of the gimmicks is a good thing for me. I don't care for that sliding pin for the shoulder transformation. That looks cheap and something a 3rd party company would do. I do like that it's the same size as Earthrise Starscream. In my head canon, Armada Starscream will be a "What if Starscream was also reformatted by Unicron?" Starscream. I would name him "Chronus".
that's cool bro, yeah i agree with you on the cheapness of this figure
yeah, that could work
@@chefatron It's like they are going back to the dark days of the Prime Robot in Disguise days. Nothing but cheap hollow plastic.
@@somarriba333 sad but true man... :'(
I think this Legacy Armada Starscream would've made a better candidate for a Shattered Glass Starscream.
perhaps
Bad Starscream! Bad! WHACK! WHACK! WHY ARE YOU LIKE THIS!?
hahaha
For most countries available in three languages.
yeah, it's just sad...
no prob, man, glad i could help 🙂
oh yeah, those were the good old days.! i feel bad complaining back then about the prices of toys... nowadays... astronomical prices smh...
Generations did it better.
yes perhaps
That thing is just ugly
yeah, it's the plastic quality that really ruins it
30 for a cheep made junk pile? Yuck pass thanks for the warning!
i know right?! close to usd$40 out here actually... LOL
I'm just noticed another flaws on your copy was the pin on thigh is not the same side
oh really? YES!!!! more fails on this figure hahaha
thanks man
I thought it looked good. I’m not getting it either way though, because I prefer Star Saber as an actual Autobot (the Victory version, not the trash version that showed up in Lost Light).
Yeah. Why would I want a Unicron Trilogy Star Saber when I’ve got a Haslab one on the way.
cool, man
How depressing
yeah, but it is what it is bro
Bruh, even through the camera I can see how cheap the plastic is. Smh…
yeah well...
Dang. I was pretty excited for this one. I wish they wouldn't cheap out on major characters. Still might pick him up at retail, but not going to order him online. Man figure looks so good, what a shame...

@@chefatron I will never doubt you again sir.
My Starscream is pretty flimsy unfortunately, however I think the plastic itself seems fine. I am annoyed that we don't get his minicon, a bigger star saber and the fact those legs don't tab into the back.

Wonder if Hjiaxius will get this form like the IDW thrilling 30 figure, but was already a legacy fig. Interesting 🤔
probably not... i'm hoping we get repaints of skywarp and thundercracker but i wish they would use better plastic quality for the repaints, though...
I agree with you 100% we are paying so much yet we are getting so little. That’s why I canceled my pre order of this figure. I’m now buying older transformer figures at this point
thanks so much bro, i appreciate it!
oh yeah, the older figures have so much better quality
Truthful review as always!
Bought this about 2 weeks ago. Been enjoying the articulation, but you are very correct about the low-grade plastic quality compared to Unicron Trilogy toys. Parts on the mushroom pegs also slip off easily. Had to trim off a lot of excess plastics/sprue bits here and there.
I pair him with a spare Armada Swindle which 'powerlinxes' with the tiny 'Stardagger' & attaches to the main robot. Been having fun with it, albeit carefully.
Also the jet mode compresses greatly looking more like a Deluxe vehicle oddly.
hahaha thanks so much my friend 🙂
