You have given some very sound advice on how to adjust and live within two countries and two cultures. I admire you greatly. I think you show great respect for your husband, his family and his Country. That is really nice.. Your little boy is beautiful, he is a credit to you both. He will have a fantastic life, rich with the culture from two countries. Thank you so much for sharing Miriam. Best wishes to you and your family.🤗🥰🇦🇺🦘🐨
I love this video! There are so many similarities between you and me. I’m also getting married with my Chinese boyfriend this year, we also live in China and we also communicate in Chinese as his English is not that good... and I’m also a vegetarian! 💕
Miriam, you have such an open, joyful, and intelligent mind. You are an educator and influencer, which could be your direction. You are a blessing to world.
I would love to be able to watch a video about your wedding 💓 I got married with my husband in China a month ago and I love seeing how different each wedding still is. Much love from Germany
Hi Miriam, many thanks for your videos! I am Chinese but I have been living in Sweden for the past seven years. I really like the way you perceive different countries and cultures. Wish you enjoy China and have a wonderful experience.
I grew up with 3 languages, and it felt so easy. Children learn languages very easily. Don't be afraid to add English, apart from Swedish and Chinese, to Sansan's repertoire.
That's great to hear! Do you feel like you knew them all equally well? I will stick to Swedish, but he will get English from school and also from the international friends we have! And from music and popular culture I guess, like I did. The Harry Potter books had a huge impact on my English level haha.
As a child, i never bothered to ask which language i am better at. I just use the right language automatically on different situations. As an adult, my working language is English, and hence one can say i am better at English due to frequent usage. By the way, i am also orally well-versed with 4 different chinese dialects before i turn 5 years old. So, don't be afraid to let grandma teach him local dialects. View these dialects as the disappearing cultures that may need preserving, and you may be more forthcoming to exposing him multi-language multi-dialects environment.
@@MiriamFollin I think you are wise in teaching Sansan Swedish. Mandarin and English are very common so he won't have a problem being exposed to those two. In comparison, Swedish is a relatively minor language, he'll likely get less exposure once he grows up.
@@galoise5364 Exactly what I'm thinking! I'm guessing there are about 10-13 million Swedish speakers in the world, so it's definitely the language I'll focus on! I also want him to learn to write and read well in Swedish, and I know it all has to come from me!
The Chinese are very family oriented. I’m Chinese & my sister married a Kiwi. They hv been married for 40 years & raised 2 kids who embraced the Chinese culture very well. I fully understand what u r saying.
Just finished watching your video, you are such a wonderful person who are so grounded to rural life styles, the Chinese there will always support you.
Speak to your baby in swedish as much as possible. 'Cause after the childhood, it will be much more harder for him to speak a relatively minor foreign langugage. I know some Chinese-French friends who did not speak chinese in childhood now can no longer pronounce the tons correctly. It is pity to ignore parents' languages. Once lost it, we lost the connection with parents' culture. 💪
This is a difficult one - we live in UK and my children don't know Chinese(I am). They do very well in English and been to uni and have good jobs. I am loosing my Mandarin. The children learned Spanish and French in school. Husband was an English gentleman. Missing him. English is much easier to learn - common language of the world.
@@wendybrierley5412 It's difficult when the kids aren't around people (especially other kids) who speak (in your case) Chinese. I used to volunteer at a Chinese-speaking organization in the US where they'd hold family events and language classes for kids. The kids would tend to revert to using English if they could!
Passa på och lär honom. Du Kan visa teknad sånger och barn program 😃 tappade två viktiga språk när jag flyttade till ett nytt land. Låt mig säga att det är oroligt svårt att lära om de som vuxen. 😵😩
It’s depend on where her children will stay most of time, I would suggest she should talk her children in Mandarin because it is harder languages learn and very different than the other languages. My daughter was born in China then we came to USA when she was 9, and we were worried about her English because she went school with all American children. Unfortunately, we were so wrong, she could write a short articles before we moved to USA, but lost her native languages very soon, even though we talked in Chinese most times at home. 4 years later when we visited back to China, then she could not understand Chinese from her grandparents or other relatives. As she grew older she tried to pick up her native language but it was too later even taking classes in college, she could never be able to read and write in Chinese’s like when she was 8-9years old.
Your daughter pretty much sums up to my cousin who came to Canada from HK when he was 6yrs old. As for me I came to Canada when I was 11 back in 94. I feel lucky I am fluent in Cantonese, but I probably lost up to 80% ofChinese writing and reading skill being immerse in Quebecois during my teenage and English as an adult after moving out to BC. My daughter is over 3 now, I speak to her 100% in Cantonese and mom 100% in french, and my wife and I 50/50 in french/English. I truly wish my daughter will continue to understand Cantonese as she gets older, but I'm afraid that will all eventually switch to English as soon as she starts going to school. It's a sad feeling for sure, as I am the only Chinese living in a 99.99% English environment. Grandparents are so far away... :-(

Miriam, perhaps you can extend your house and start a homestay program so your many fans can visit you; and you can also generate additional income for your family. Discuss this idea with your family.
It's quite interesting that you are adjusted so well to Chinese country because the condition there sometimes is a bit more rough. I love how you are so down to earth
Just want to say I enjoy your vlogs, they bring peace and joy to me after a busy day. My family comes from rural part of China, and we still have our old house there. Sometimes I really want to escape the city and just go back.
Love your videos. I lived in Shanghai for five years and absolutely love my China experience. It will always be my cultural home. On a side note, my sister-in-law is married to an Italian and lives there and they have two kids. She speaks to their kids in English and her husband speaks to them only in Italian. They are now in their early teens and comfortably bilingual. And being a vegetarian in China, I find it really easy. I find most Chinese restaurants understand the concept of Buddhism . I would tell the restaurant that I am a Buddhist and never had issues with ham or blood added to my order. I guess speaking Chinese really helps too. Thank you for sharing a slice of your life in China.
Your experience can definitely be a book, with the culture elements you met. Or getting popular in China quicker, by uploading videos on Bilibili (perhaps need to speak in mandarine or with Chinese subtitles).
Yes! It’s sometimes difficult to separate personality and culture. My husband and I have that problem too. I’ve never been able to articulate it. Thank you.
I like you and all of your family!❤Hoping to see more record of sansan's growth,I believe in that he'll have the same heart and courage as his brilliant parents!
This was such a great video.. It was lovely getting to know you all a bit more. Thank you for sharing 🤗... It would be my absolute dream to live in China.. one day maybe 🤔😊
Thanks for answering my question, Miriam 😊 it's the last question at 29:30. This Q&A is a perfect platform for you and your subscribers to connect. Thanks for doing this 💖 More power to you!!!
Good to hear that you got your question answered! I think it makes a difference to actually speak and not just write! I think it would be cool to in the future have people record their questions, that way it would be like a dialogue almost! 😊
"let it go" hits me hard, which my mom always teaches me. Thanks for helping me reflex on things that I hold too much. You are really a good teacher, wife and mom! Thanks for sharing your story!
I am a nature lover and I love the quiet village life. Your Qinghai home must be a nice place. I like second part of this video where you sit in windy sunlight and cozy homeyard. So nice...
Miriam thank you for your quiet, peaceful videos full of wisdom. Thank you for sharing parts of your life with us. I live in Switzerland with my Chinese boyfriend. Even though he's chosen to migrate to Switzerland by himself before he's got to know me, it's not always easy. As you said it very well: the most difficult thing is exactly to distinguish wether it's sth from the culture or the personality. Seeing other couples in an intercultural relationship gives me the confidence, that we can make it :-).
Love it Mariam! I was in China in the 90’s and the area you are at in this video has changed a lot. For better or worse I suppose. Beijing lost a lot of those Hutongs which is kind of sad because those are ancient and in place are the high rises. I have not been back to visit so very nice to hear the updates and love your Q and A session - just a Ninety baby would do. :). Will definitely continue to follow you.
My sister talked to her grandson in Mandrian when the boy started speaking. The child's parents talk to their kid in English. The child pick up both languages without problem. He responses to grandma with Mandrian and to his parents in English. He even tried to translate English into Mandrian for his grandma.
You are hereby answering my question about which language you speak to your child. As you said rightly it is your big responsibility. Great you are a more down to earth person than I was. Fare well
乡愁 which means missing home is always a basic theme in no matter chinese or other cultures. I sincerely understand and respect the feeling. Best wishes to you.❤️❤️❤️
I am filipino here in the US and most of my filipino friends with kids does not know how to speak tagalog which is the philippines language. I wish they have taught there kids the language too like what you are doing.
Yes, I think language is so important! It carries history and culture as well, it's not only a tool of communication. Maybe they will feel inclined to learn themselves when they are older? But still, it won't be a mother tongue then...
I found that most Swedish people can pronounce Chinese characters quite good, and they are better with intonations than most of the foreigners I know, probably because Swedish also has intonations and the two languages have many similar syllables.
Begin from 9:47 that’s basically a advice for everyone in the world. Being a Open minded person when going abroad or anywhere that isn’t your hometown, and that is not just about how much education you had or how developed your place, your country, your city, your town is. Because it isn’t your culture and your country anymore when you as a visitor and so you should be the one that being open minded to begin with. Cause people misunderstand the words and surroundings sometimes, cause they thought that they’re the open minded one until they started to judge the local people in their very own country and culture, while they’re the visitor/guest in that country.
Miriam, you are an intelligent person with a great, humble personality. 👏 👏👏 You seems to be living a happy life in China, which is wonderful. And blessed with a loving husband and a happy family. You have helped to enlighten many westerners about the real situation in China. China is a good country and the people are living happy and peaceful lives. Blessings from Malaysia.
Raising your child with both languages, one from your own and one from your husband would be wise. He needs both culture and no one said you have to choose only only one.
Your voice is very soothing and I love how you talking very honestly and your outlook on making your cultural differences work in your relationship and raising your children.
After watching this video, i was pretty much in shock. Some questions are just totally ignorant. I feel like some Swedish and foreigners are just incredibly prejudiced against China. It could be curiosity and cultural barrier too though.......
It's no nice to see how much your channel has grown and to learn more about your interests, your family and your plans! And thank you for making this video such a relaxing time with you, as usual, a feeling of chilling around you. The comparison between feminists for your thesis sounds super interesting 😍 And thank you for talking about being vegetarian in China!
@@MiriamFollin It's a 1981 movie and one of the best movies I have ever seen. I hope that you enjoy it. Maureen Stapleton is the actress who plays the part of Emma Goldman's character. I reckon that this movie will blow your mind. P.S. It's 3 and a half hours long so make yourself very comfortable before you start watching it. You won't want to miss a second of it.
If anyone wanna learn Mandarine, i suggest you come to Malaysia, cause we have the environment here, plenty of chinese people here like me can speak English, Mandarine, Guang Dong, Hakka, Hokkien and more, and school here are cheap. 加油大家
Because it's close to a military base! Many areas with a lot of minorities are also closed off. Especially in Qinghai and Xining I think, but I know of a few places in Sichuan too!
I was raised in Japan for my first 5 years...I understand Japanese and English. My mother always spoke to us kids in Japanese and if we had answered in that language, we would probably be able to speak our mother tongue with ease. While I think in Japanese, I answer in English.Children are so opened to languages, I hope you will continue to keep both dialects available for your adorable children.
I’m curious. Miriam mentioned that she cannot settle down at her husband’s hometown, because she’s a foreigner. Why is that? Not sure if I missed out some info in this video.
Great video! Preparingore mushrooms for Sansan as vegetarian doesn't provide enough protein without mushroom. One last question: have you got a Chinese green card? Does your husband have a Swedish green card? ---- There's one thing: if a restaurant is cooking with lard (I've never seen one) and a vegetarian ask the pot to be washed, it will only result in more pigs to be killed.
Glad you found your way through the typical non-direction of today's educational system: veterinarian, rock star, psychologist.....May you continue to discover your talents more and more. Concerned that it always sounds as though you have a cold/lung congestion: I trust the ancient art of Chinese medicine will cure you of this. Would like to hear more on the ancient philosophies of China: Confucianism, Taoism, Buddhism. Thank you for making this video, very enlightening!

I would tell the restaurant that I am a Buddhist and never had issues with ham or blood added to my order. I guess speaking Chinese really helps too. Thank you for sharing a slice of your life in China.
I am from Qinghai, Miriam’s videos make me miss home! Thank you Miriam
Miriam, I really admire you in making your family life decisions.
I would find it difficult in moving to another country.
Merry Christmas from Yunnan, Dali! Thanks for posting these . . . having so much fun getting to know you through your channel!
love it u reading form a paper not mobile phone👍 thank for the answer
Enjoyed you Q&A, what a delightful and humbling lady. Wish you and family all the best for the future 🙏
listen to your talking, watching your video will bring me peace
You are such a beautiful and intelligent person, your journey would depend on your decisions..i wish and pray for the success of your family....
Excited for your wedding video!
Hi Miriam, love your channel and will always be supporting you. 😄👍
Thank you for sharing your life. You seem to be very happy in the videos with your husband's family. I like you follow you heart. 🙏💜🤗
Miriam you have the cutest little boy. I love to watch him in your videos.
This was such a great video.. It was lovely getting to know you all a bit more. Thank you for sharing 🤗... It would be my absolute dream to live in China.. one day maybe 🤔😊
@No one 多谢... That's so kind of you 🤗
It's not easy for different cultures. But I think you always a new optimistic and different culture.Cheer you up
Thanks for answering my question, Miriam 😊 it's the last question at 29:30.
Miriam In China That's a good idea 💡 Hope that happens soon 👍
Btw... your son is adorable.
I would love to see a video of your traditional wedding !
How much do you miss the Sweden food here in China , do you also cook Sweden food in China?
"let it go" hits me hard, which my mom always teaches me. Thanks for helping me reflex on things that I hold too much. You are really a good teacher, wife and mom! Thanks for sharing your story!
Seriously, your homestay inn will be a big hit.
You're such a adorable girl, wish you have the happiest family.
I am a nature lover and I love the quiet village life. Your Qinghai home must be a nice place. I like second part of this video where you sit in windy sunlight and cozy homeyard. So nice...
I love the combinations of colors you wear. I am a vegetarian and those salads you prepare seems wonderful to palate.
really like your videos, the frames all have kind of nature feel and pulse in it. the lighting is also very artistic😊
I am a Taiwanese living in the big island of Hawaii. I am traveling in Xela of Guatemala. I enjoy your video a lot. Have a happy new year.
When the garden us sleeping. What a wonderful phrase. I will adopt it.
Thanks
Best wishes Miriam! Looking forward to the new vlogs!
My sister talked to her grandson in Mandrian when the boy started speaking. The child's parents talk to their kid in English. The child pick up both languages without problem. He responses to grandma with Mandrian and to his parents in English. He even tried to translate English into Mandrian for his grandma.
I absolutely love Miriam's videos and I love her husband and his family plus the rural area where she lives; however the rulers of China terrify me.
Miriam makes a good teacher.
I am glad to know more about you and China 😊👍
I watched all your vedios, waiting for more ! Love them !
I'm excited to watch your wedding video...hope you will share it here☺
I'm planning to make it in March!
your scarf match the door (color match). all beautiful arrangement
Welcome to teaching, it is what you are doing. Thank you very much for your efforts.
Great Q&A. Very genuine. Thanks for that.
Yey thanks again for the wonderful video 💕 so excited for more to come!
I found that most Swedish people can pronounce Chinese characters quite good, and they are better with intonations than most of the foreigners I know, probably because Swedish also has intonations and the two languages have many similar syllables.
really excited about the wedding video!
Aloha Miriam & Families, you all blessed to meet each other and make a New journey!
Love the way you answer these interesting questions. I too live in Asia with my partner and feel very comfortable.
thank you for sharing all this information! I look forward to your wedding video!
Hello from Washington, DC. Your videos are great! Please do video of your wedding
... Oh and yes please, a wedding video would be lovely to see👏🏻🤗
It seems your life are so peaceful. First watch your channel and love your videos.
Miriam, you are an intelligent person with a great, humble personality. 👏 👏👏
You seems to be living a happy life in China, which is wonderful.
Actually it's three languages that Sansan is learning. Swedish, Chinese and English.
Love your videos, Miriam! I would love to see your wedding video when you get the chance!
I will make one but might not be ready until sometime next year though haha.
Your sense of fashion is sublime. I love it 😍
Your voice is very soothing and I love how you talking very honestly and your outlook on making your cultural differences work in your relationship and raising your children.
Aw, thank you so much! I loved reading them both, Goldman and He Yin Zhen. Such forward thinkers! Are you vegetarian too? I didn't know!
Love your video so much. Thank you for your sharing.
Emma Goldman's character is in the very amazing movie, REDS, with Warren Beatty, Diane Keaton, Jack Nicholson.
Oh really!! I had no idé, will look into it!
Thank you for the advice, I looked it up and will try to find a way to watch it!! I really appreciate it - love a good movie tip! ❤️
Thanks for sharing your life.
If anyone wanna learn Mandarine, i suggest you come to Malaysia, cause we have the environment here, plenty of chinese people here like me can speak English, Mandarine, Guang Dong, Hakka, Hokkien and more, and school here are cheap. 加油大家
真狂言无良 But it’s Muslim
I'm not Muslim and I don't feel threaten by any thou
Your videos are always so calm and relaxing! Why are foreigners not allowed to go to your husband's hometown? I didn't realise that this was a thing.
Because it's close to a military base! Many areas with a lot of minorities are also closed off. Especially in Qinghai and Xining I think, but I know of a few places in Sichuan too!
@@MiriamFollin Ahhh I didn't know that, thanks!
I love and enjoy so much to See San san grows up!
San san is very cute und his smilies are pleasant
太佩服你的勇气,也羡慕你的善良
That is exactly what I am thinking
I was raised in Japan for my first 5 years...I understand Japanese and English. My mother always spoke to us kids in Japanese and if we had answered in that language, we would probably be able to speak our mother tongue with ease. While I think in Japanese, I answer in English.Children are so opened to languages, I hope you will continue to keep both dialects available for your adorable children.
I’m curious. Miriam mentioned that she cannot settle down at her husband’s hometown, because she’s a foreigner. Why is that? Not sure if I missed out some info in this video.
Her husband's home village is near a military base.
@@clarissagafoor5222 oh, thank you for the clarification :)
Great video! Preparingore mushrooms for Sansan as vegetarian doesn't provide enough protein without mushroom.
One last question: have you got a Chinese green card? Does your husband have a Swedish green card?
----
There's one thing: if a restaurant is cooking with lard (I've never seen one) and a vegetarian ask the pot to be washed, it will only result in more pigs to be killed.
It's interesting. Nice vlogs.. I am watching most of yours. Thanks. I am Tibetan.
Lovely to watch. Tks for doing the show.
Love your vid, just found it.nice story you have, love seeing your family,
Glad you found your way through the typical non-direction of today's educational system: veterinarian, rock star, psychologist.....May you continue to discover your talents more and more. Concerned that it always sounds as though you have a cold/lung congestion: I trust the ancient art of Chinese medicine will cure you of this. Would like to hear more on the ancient philosophies of China: Confucianism, Taoism, Buddhism.
Thank you for making this video, very enlightening!
北欧虽然有它特有的风情,但是寒冷而漫长的冬季太容易让人抑郁了,单调的食品,昂贵的价格也给它拉分不少啊
