This 4 Note Microtonal Scale is Insane! | 31 EDO Music Theory |

Lets learn some microtonal music theory! More specifically, lets look at how to construct a simple but beautiful 4 note scale subset from 31 equal called the tetratonic subminor orwell scale. Sounds complicated, but lets break it down:
Tetratonic - means simply a 4 note scale.
Subminor - refers to how this scale is built off of a consecutive chain of septimal minor (or subminor) thirds and a justly approximated 5/4 major third.
Orwell - A temperament so named because it can be generated by 19/84 (19 steps of 84 edo), which works well within the framework of 31 EDO
The example you hear here blends the tetratonic subminor orwell scale with a modified 12 scale subset. Basically the piano bits are exclusively in tetratonic orwell, and the vocals are in modified 12 but line up with the Orwell intervals at key parts to exemplify the tonal quality of this beautiful microtonal scale.
