This is honestly one of the most exciting multitools I've seen in a long time and will be getting one. The increase in plier leverage with the slip joint will be awesome I think and the use of stamped parts instead of casting will probably significantly increase the strength of the plier head. Good stuff!
@@maxlvledc even for a regular pair of slip joints that pretty impressive! Kind of wish that they had gone for Taiwan or USA production but it looks like the quality is there and they hit an insane price point so I think it was worth it in this case. @@EngineersPerspective701 Quality out of China has been improving by leaps and bounds. No thanks to lessons learned from American companies setting up shop and raising the standard I'm quite sure.
MEC in Canada just got them and I ordered. As a handyman tradesman this looks like the best combination of tools I have yet to see. Very excited to put this tool to the paces. My tools get used many times throughout the day.
I've been looking forward to this since i first heard you mention it, and i am very impressed! It doesn't try to do too much, but rather do what it does do well.
Recently got the Gerber DF and been using it while working on the homestead on mechanical & auto electrical tasks with a variety of fence mending etc. With the sheath, made some mods so I can have a flashlight, a marker pen & carpenters pencil. It's functional & works for my needs. After a year, it remains to be seen. Great output matey, will send in some input. Greetings from Australia.
Finally a company that really thought out a multi-tool. So far I'm impressed as I hate only needle nose tools. That knife is kind of sorry looking but it looks like it'll work. I'm buying. Thanks for your great review.
I do a lot of low voltage electrical work along with automation installs for a job and was attracted initially by the center drive, however the slip joint and relatively blunt nose would be beneficial for both electrical and mechanical aspect of my job. I would love to beat on this in my trade and give feedback for you. Great content man!
I feel like in regards to edc, I love the needle nose plier on my charge. However, out on a job I feel like the "nut plier portion" isn't enough on my charge. Typically I'll gravitate to a more dedicated plier that I can beat up and won't stress if it fails. The price point and functionality of this gerber seams like a great move 👍
It’s funny you put it that way. I’ve been looking for a new multitool for a bit now and I was also considering buying a dedicated set of slip joint (?) pliers as it’s currently missing in my tool lineup. So in a moment of madness I decided to try to see if the Gerber Dual Force could fulfill both roles. We’ll see, but as of now I’m pretty excited.
I just received mine today. I plan to push it hard next to my Surge. I know folks often pair a Crunch with the Leatherman. I'm really thinking that putting the Dual Force with the Surge along with a 5in Knipex and there's no need for the crunch in that. I'll be uploading my initial tests soon, but plan to do several updates in the months to come. As it is now, I give it a 7-7.5/10. I don't think it's a Surge killer, honestly, but I think it's a good secondary to it!
I’ve bought mine today. I do maintenance work , I like it better then the gerber centre drive so far. I still carry my leatherman P4. I’m looking forward to no more pinches
The Gerber Centerdrive never really tickled my fancy (and I'm ticklish). This Dual Force sure is more compelling though! Looking forward to the testing video/s!
id still chose my surge and knipex cobra for edc instead of a dualforce +raptor (although sill a nice carry), i often need relatively precise pliers and the surge AND cobras both cater that need ( cobra has no problem with big hadware) and the dualforce does nog from what i saw
Definitely needs hard testing...I suspect that the Dual Force fulfills completely different needs and can coexist with the surge. I would probably pair either a Klein 2100-7 Shear or diagonal cutters with it.
I just got mine and used it for a bit at work. The handle play is really, really annoying when using the screwdriver or knife. The file also doesn’t work particularly well on the small bolt I tried it on, the Surge file or Charge file worked much better. I didn’t use the chisel but it’s probably okay for light scrapping. It’s also missing an awl which is great for starting holes for wood screws or cleaning out small rusted holes. Also, the gap at the pliers end is considerably annoying and doesn’t fit my hand well. The ergonomics of the tool seem to be off. The pliers though worked really well on a couple of larger bolts that would have given the Surge an issue. I know because I’ve tried to use the Surge pliers on them before which is why I now have an adjustable wrench around. So the pliers may make a difference to some people. My initial impressions are that it’s a good set of pliers and a decent screwdriver but that’s it. The Surge offers so much more in terms of flexibility that I doubt the Dual Force becomes a carry for me at all.
I noticed the play in the handle as well. If you close the tool with the pliers in the larger configuration the handle is slightly larger but the play is much less.
The Surge has the one advantage of experience in this situation. It’s been put to the meat grinder for years and proves reliable. The Dual Force is new, needs to be truly pushed to its limits in order for this to be considered a challenger of the Surge. You’ve got me interested in this debate now. I use a Surge regularly for any task I can, and it’s taken darn near everything I throw at it. My main question, one that everyone should ask: Can the Dual Force take the same kind of punishment and keep on going? Only time will tell
I have had great luck with my CenterDrive...good ebough that I bought a Second as a Spare for my Bag (I slip seat as a Truck Driver)..The Pliers feature really appeals to me. You have brought up a good point and One that really bothers Me no matter the Maker. The Sheath, I have yet to find a Comany that sends the Tool out with One that will hold up to hard use. For waht most are charging they could do Better
Thanks for the review. This looks like Gerber has put the emphasis back on tool in multi-tool. Not what I’d EDC, but definitely what I want when I have a job to do.
Mine will be here this week. Very disappointed with it being made in China with the Center Drive being made in the USA. I don’t know if I would have gotten one if I had known that. Just the three bits no bit set at $110 you think they should have included it.
I think Gerber is oriented to heavy duty work more than others, but the problem is in the thickness: allegedly it will break easily when twisted. And the further light grey steel riveted on the head of the pliers? Yay, so industrial looking! But is going to bend soon...

Seems like a really interesting multi tool that might give the surge a run for its money! Ive ordered one and am excited for it to arrive this week. Was very surprised to see them for sale at Canadian Tire earlier than other places.
I have the Center Drive Plus and got the Surge and Skeletool last week as my daily carry’s until the Dual Force was released. I will be rotating the three out daily to see what is my favorite daily carry and which one is the most limited.
I am using three different ones the Center Drive Plus, Leatherman Curl and the SOG Power Pint. I rotate through based on what I am doing. The Leatherman Curl has a Bit Kit with extension and I carry a Kershaw Chill for a knife. The Center Drive Plus comes with the Bit so I added a Gerber EVO with it. The SOG I like the best just for the small size if I know that I am not going to be working with it. I do like the dual force but for different things the slip joints pliers are great and I like the surge but once you add everything to it then the the weight is a problem. I had Roxon multi pliers and knife were you can change the blades. Add all the pieces up six blades the knife and the multi tool it weighs a ton. The just sold it all on eBay.
@@LawrenceHubbard-o2i Thanks for the update. I carry similar, just rotate based on the needs for that day. I was really wanting the Dual Force as I like my Center Drive but it looks like most reviews don’t favor the DF.
Did you get it for $80 USD? Gerber charged me $100 lol. It was supposed to come today but it’s not here yet. I use bit drivers and pliers every day and I think I’ll get a lot of mileage out of this one!
Not many good scissors out their in the main brands...I'd rather carry this and keychain carry a 58mm vic. The other multitools with good scissors have different drawbacks.
I bought a center drive when they first came out. Then they improved it and blacked it out💩 I will wait until the blacked out V2 Duel force is released.
Been looking for channel locks in a multi tool, because the average pliers they come with are worthless handling anything thicker than cardboard. Lol. Glad I didn't find these before I ordered the crunch last night, I might have gone into decision lock.
It seems gargantuan! I give them props for trying to come up with something different looking, but it just seems too heavy and bulky to always carry around on your person.
Wish it had a switchable saw blade holder like the Surge so that I could have a hacksaw instead of wood blade and it would be the ultimate multi tool for me...
Yessssss finally....only downside is it is made in china but then again not all things are bad quality that come from china. Looks like all the tools a maintenance man would need. Time to put it thru the ringer
I’ll definitely be trying one, but I’m not sure about the knife blade and how easy to get it out with gloves on. Plumbers might end up liking it more than carpenters, but I like the chisel tip.
I've been using my dual force for a few months now and overall it's a good tool however the blade seems really soft cause mine already rolled the edge and haven't really cut anything hard and also I don't like how when you close the tool they to arms are offset at least on mine...I will be switching back to my CenterDrive for sure
Hey! Mine just arrived! I'm just opening it up and went straight to the driver, as it's one of the key reasons I went after this tool. Obviously I also wanted the pliers. :) First, I should say, I think I'm going to love this tool just based on basic impression and what I've seen. BUT ... I think I found a 'miss.' Or at least what feels like a miss for my purposes. The socket for the driver is too shallow. What's "too" shallow? I recently picked up some Wiha duel bits that I LOVE. They have a great range of tips and are only 30mm long. Considering it's got bits on each end, that's impressive to me. I also own a Gerber Armbar and have really enjoyed it. I swapped out the dual bit that comes with it for one of the Wiha duel bits and it even closes! So now for the shallow/depth issue. The depth of the socket on the Duel Force is only 9mm. :\. It's so shallow in fact that the Wiha duel bits can't sit far enough in for the shank to connect with the hex socket. It just spins around(the head is 10.5mm). The Armbar driver socket depth is 14mm. That feels cavernous now. :) The duel bit that came with the Armbar is about 27.5mm in length, so just 2.5mm shorter than the Wiha bits. Continuing on that theme the extra bit holders can only close with bits shorter than 28.5mm. Like I said, I think I'm going to love this tool, but I really hope Gerber changes this. If they do, I'd love to get a replacement driver. :) Really curious to hear your take on this! I'd even happily donate a set of Wiha duel bits to the channel so you can check it out yourself. :)
I personally don't see this as the end of the world. I've encountered many tools that can't use those bits...plus I doubt the fold out bits would have fit in the frame If they were double sided.
@@maxlvledc Oh, definitely. I wouldn’t even call it a deal-breaker. I had something fairly specific in mind, particularly after my positive experience with the Armbar and the Wiha bits, so I had imagined it carrying over to the Duel Force. Love your content and what I’m learning from you and your channel. If I decide to do a video on my experience with the Duel Force, I’ll send you a link. :)
I want to like but personally going to stick with my center drive. I need a video on how to change out tools on a gerber cause I want that saw not my file.
I paid $100 on the Gerber site and from what I’m seeing it’s still worth it. :) Now you’ve got me really pumped to try the thing out. Thanks for the very genuine unboxing. 👍 Looking forward to seeing how it holds up to testing.
Good enough I guess. I am not disappointed, but not really excited either. And to be honest, it is redundant now, with how good Knipex small pliers are. I carry the 6" Cobras and 6" Pliers Wrench.
The way you said, "Here's hoping that it at least...😉meets expectations" made it seem like your expectation was that it wouldn't meet your expectation; a sort of 🤔 paradox of expectation😵💫.
Seeing you handle this makes me think, on a philosophical level, what makes an EDC multitool. I’m not sure if this is necessarily an EDC tool. This seems like a tool someone would carry who specifically needs the tool, like plumbers/HVAC, or a tool to keep in the car that can get some serious work done. Am I wrong? Just seems like a lot, even for those that like big multitools (as a stagehand, I never thought I’d say that, lol)
@@maxlvledc I might get this and put it through some stagehand tasks this summer. I could also see how using this in tandem with a ratchet would be incredible!
Mine is on the way! I’m guessing you requested expedited delivery or live a lot closer to the point of origin. I’m in the PNW, so I think they are slow walking it across country. :D
@@maxlvledc My impatience usually gets the better of me and I end up paying through the nose, but given I didn’t need it for a review or anything I decided I should at least try to exercise some patience. :) I’m loving your channel as I get more into EDC. Thanks for the solid content!
I kinda feel like the pliers being stamped steel that they may not hold up nearly as well as leather man pliers or any of the solid drop forged pliers.
A great design for someone interested in a BIG multitool.....With the center drive, chisel, and unique plier head....Perhaps better compared to LM Crunch for gripping power.... Sould be good for plumbers or HVAC techs, if build quality is there....I guess they chose China to keep price point down....or else it would be on par cost wise with the other tools you showed. I like a smaller LM with a Knipex Cobra....
How many blunt noise multitools are out there? Idk why but I gravitate towards them; any blunt nose recommendations? (I'd ask for budget oriented but I want to know what's all available) I've got a Gerber mp600 blunt nose and my dual force showed up sat. Haven't used the df yet but my mp600 comes in clutch a few times a month
Very interesting. I'm a theatre tech so my multitools are mainly used for medium-size hexnuts and wingnuts, BOND works fine for me most days and if I think I'll be doing a lot of wrenching I bring an MP600 or a proper spanner. Nice to see that Gerber are still capable of innovation and that not all their tools are complete crap. I'll be very interested to hear what the actual tradesmen who need heavy duty tools have to say.
Plenty of people are willing to pay the higher American made price for a quality tool. Making this in China makes me think Gerber themselves aren't confident this tool is worth the higher price.
From an industrial setting, I’ve used a center-drive and a charge and the build quality is not even close to the same. Gerber is edc at best, very much a medium duty tool. Also wasn’t the Center-drive made in the US?
Hello Dominic - Good review! I think this is a job-specific tool...I agree it can be combined with other tools on a job site...it doesn't appear to be as solid as a 300, the Swisstool or the Surge...I am concerned with the plier head, it doesn't look substantial - I don't think it would break, but it might bend or twist under heavy use...then again, these comments are based on mere observation, testing as you plan on doing, will determine if this tool has the "right stuff"...or not...thanks!
I just watched a video review of the Gerber Dual Force. They put it through some serious paces. Thought you might like this. Let me know what you think. See link below. ua-cam.com/video/7XTjqx4jYDQ/v-deo.html
I just want to say I have a black oxide surge and I absolutely love the scissors and I have really good dedicated scissors too. But my surge does a damn good job cutting junk
Wish they lost the thumb hole on the file and have the grooves all the way down, waste of file real estate. Also I prefer a solid plier head rather than laminated, much stronger. There's a reason why knipex, channellock, snap on and so on don't waste their time with laminated. Also would have been nice if they used double ended bits and the 2 bit holders could have been actual bit drivers so you can use them in tight spaces. Typicacal gerber, great idea but only 70% executed.
1:28 - I hate multi-tools that have an unbalanced deformed shaped due to the pliers, doesn't close properly with a gap at the pliers end. It is a very thick and heavy tool and you aren't getting much for the weight and size.

The duel bit that came with the Armbar is about 27.5mm in length, so just 2.5mm shorter than the Wiha bits.
Continuing on that theme the extra bit holders can only close with bits shorter than 28.5mm.
Like I said, I think I'm going to love this tool, but I really hope Gerber changes this. If they do, I'd love to get a replacement driver. :)
Really curious to hear your take on this!
@@mikemcaulay9507 thanks! Plz do!
I want to like but personally going to stick with my center drive. I need a video on how to change out tools on a gerber cause I want that saw not my file.
I paid $100 on the Gerber site and from what I’m seeing it’s still worth it. :)
Now you’ve got me really pumped to try the thing out.
Thanks for the very genuine unboxing. 👍
Looking forward to seeing how it holds up to testing.
Good enough I guess. I am not disappointed, but not really excited either. And to be honest, it is redundant now, with how good Knipex small pliers are. I carry the 6" Cobras and 6" Pliers Wrench.
If you carry the Cobra already it will be a little redundant.
Any more videos for the dualforce?/ updates?
Haven't had the time or opportunity to give any updates..but I think the video by Jake in the Wild was super informative
The way you said, "Here's hoping that it at least...😉meets expectations" made it seem like your expectation was that it wouldn't meet your expectation; a sort of 🤔 paradox of expectation😵💫.
Dizzy! But yea..after the Lockdown...didn't want to get my hopes up
Seeing you handle this makes me think, on a philosophical level, what makes an EDC multitool.
You are 100% correct, not for most ppl same as surge/st300/Centerdrive/swisstool X
Yes, expedited
@@maxlvledc My impatience usually gets the better of me and I end up paying through the nose, but given I didn’t need it for a review or anything I decided I should at least try to exercise some patience. :) I’m loving your channel as I get more into EDC. Thanks for the solid content!
The wire cutters are lacking. I used mine for 3 days. Decided forget they are even there.
This looks like a good tool for a car kit.
Dom, where are they available? I would like to test it, I still use my original Gerber going strong after 35+ years
Atm,sold out but I put links in description
I kinda feel like the pliers being stamped steel that they may not hold up nearly as well as leather man pliers or any of the solid drop forged pliers.
Ah, they are going to end up being stronger because they are forged plates vs cast. That part I'm sure of as long as they did the HT right
@@maxlvledc oh ok much better, I was under the impression they were stamped not forged.
@@FPSNovaS I believe they are lazer cut plates
Honestly, I think you missed the best tool to compare with this. I think you have to put it in a showdown with the Blackfire.
When's this bad boy gonna be available on Amazon?
No idea, but will link it as soon as it is and notify ppl via the community section
I like this one, but dont think it can replace my trusty swisstool, this thing is just too good:)
That's a great combo!
How many blunt noise multitools are out there? Idk why but I gravitate towards them; any blunt nose recommendations? (I'd ask for budget oriented but I want to know what's all available)
I've got a Gerber mp600 blunt nose and my dual force showed up sat. Haven't used the df yet but my mp600 comes in clutch a few times a month
From low to high price: Blackfire Multitool, MP600 Bluntnose, Dual Force, and imo the swisstool x is very blunt nose.
The tooth side should only be thicker on a cross cut saw. On a rip saw they would be the same.
When will the dual force be available in Europe or on amazon/ ebay?
Later this year I hear
Very interesting. I'm a theatre tech so my multitools are mainly used for medium-size hexnuts and wingnuts, BOND works fine for me most days and if I think I'll be doing a lot of wrenching I bring an MP600 or a proper spanner. Nice to see that Gerber are still capable of innovation and that not all their tools are complete crap. I'll be very interested to hear what the actual tradesmen who need heavy duty tools have to say.
Thanks for the review. It helped man
Any chance of that wire cutter getting the web of your hand?
It's way too far away and actually past the end of the tool! So no problems with it!
Plenty of people are willing to pay the higher American made price for a quality tool. Making this in China makes me think Gerber themselves aren't confident this tool is worth the higher price.
Hard to tell...definitely needs some hard testing
Is the Center Drive also overseas produced now?
No, still usa I believe
Thanks for the great video!! Have nothing to complain about on this one 🤣 you deserve a like for posting a proper tool!
It's as close as I think a Mt can get! But would still have loved slightly better materials...but for $80...fuck that's value
@@maxlvledc what do you think of it as a $110 multitool? Since that’s what is I selling for on the Gerber website now.
@@thisguy2659 still quite solid actually, but I need to see more ppl try it over time to be sure.
From an industrial setting, I’ve used a center-drive and a charge and the build quality is not even close to the same. Gerber is edc at best, very much a medium duty tool. Also wasn’t the Center-drive made in the US?
CD is Made in usa yes
I only care about one thing. That ruler! I took a look on Amazon for omnigrid but all those quilting rulers are not what you got. Where do I get.
JOAN'S Fabrics!
It's been a year, perhaps a review on it is due. Get everyone's comments on it.
Looks awesome!
It'd made of forged plates so a lot depends on the HT
Interesting tool, but pity it do not have scissors
I'm actually happy it doesn't...I can't think of a single multitool Scissor I would want over a pair of klein electrician shears.
Disappointed that it's MIC. Think alot of people including myself would like to see Gerber making more products here.
So what's the price playing on these guys
$78 on SmKW when it goes live, no idea when
Read the manual. Wire stripper, not hardwire cutter ;)
It is very big !! I tagged you in my instagram the other day !! It darfs all the big leathermans ahaha !
omg the Surge is $140 now? O_O
Ikr?!
I noticed you keep saying 6/8 in your videos lol idk why but everytime I scream “it’s 3/4” in my mind lol. 🤙
Did I?? 🤦
It's not bad at all, but something seemed wrong with mine...it was way too flexible in testing
How is this sold out already
Ridiculous
No idea, I think they may have "accidentally " released it early or something wierd
@ 1:32 that's what she said
Lols!!
Made in china? That’s a bad omen. Gerber’s chinese stuff has all had shit quality in my experience. I’ll be skipping this one until they decide to make it in the USA
It looks rinky dink.
Feels very solid though..I was surprised
6/8"s did you mean 3/4 ? hmm, soft-handed people reviewing tools.
Looks great for Chyna💩
Can any one simplify 6/8s of an inch for me lol.
Hahaha 3/4 😅
Can I pocket carry ? Lol
Doubt it..it's a big boy
Could you please at least put the metric measurements up on the screen....that would be mm please.
I'm aware, I will on the next review of it.
@@maxlvledc Thank you, I enjoyed your work and have subscribed.
For the algorithm
Cheers!
That thing looks cheesy as all hell! I have not been impressed with Gerber's products for a long time..
