    I flew Concorde as an upgrade back to the US after spending a week in Britain touring their war museums. When I checked in the lady said they were going to upgrade me and she gave me a big smile. She said follow me so I did. I had no idea where she was taking me. She said “you’re going to love this!” as she took me to the Concorde gate!! I was so excited. I asked her if I could give her a hug, she said of course, and I was on my way!! I will never forget that because the trip itself was a once in a lifetime trip!! I sat beside a very large man but it was ok because I was just tickled to be on Concorde. The food was fantastic and the view was incredible!! Once I landed I found out that the BA 747-400 I was supposed to take had been delayed and had taken off about an hour ago. The world had supersonic travel and we let it slip away.

      Not only that, but you most definitely arrived at JFK at least three hours before the 747 you were supposed to be on that had taken off an hour prior.

      Good news, aeronautical companies are working on quieter supersonic planes. They will design the plane to mitigate the sonic boom. The planes will be tested over U.S cities and evaluated by the FAA between late 2021 and 2022. NASA hopes The FAA will change its rule on not allowing supersonic flight over land in 2025.

    If She was flying today British Airways would of installed a new interior new washrooms new interior walls an update seat with OEDscreen on the back of the seats with cameras fitted on the tail thin and underneath just like the A380 has WiFi would of been installed USB plug sockets would of been installed they might of taken 6 2 + 2 seats out and replaced them with 1+1 for 6 to 5 rows introducing a executive seating. the new interior would save fuel as it would be even lighter. The flight deck may of been modernized replacing it with digital equipment they could even upgrade all the systems if it would save them money in the long run and make it a 2 crew aircraft removing the flight engineer.
    On the way to the flight deck there is the computers that control all of the functions if you replace them with modern day technology it would take 25% of the space the old tech would and it would lighten the load so they could then technically move the galleys forward and increase the cabin length. or create more room for the flight attends to work. the range would increase from 4,500 miles to 5,000 miles opening up more routes or saving money for British Airways running the london to new york run.
    Replacing other exterior parts on Concorde using the latest materials could drop the weight even more. There really is a lot of improvements that could and should of been done look at the 747 it evolved into the 747-8 the problem is government and the manufacturers gave up to easily. could you picture a stretched version of Concorde 30ft longer its possible with further development. So sad nothing was ever tried

    • @qasimmir7117
      @qasimmir7117 4 роки тому +2

      DavidMarfe
      You’re right about the interior but the rest is just wishful thinking. You can’t just plug and play with flight instruments, or the computer modules, and especially the airframe materials. Concorde is a highly specialised piece of kit and a lot of things on it are not universal. I’d rather invest that kind of money in a brand new SST.

    • @theboardshorts
      @theboardshorts 5 років тому +4

      They're small windows because anything bigger could blow-out at at Concordes much higher average cruise altitude. (Far higher than most aircraft). Concorde was still pressurised to the same level as other aircraft, the equivalent of 6000 - 8000ft) but it flew much higher where the air is very thin. This added even more pressure load on the windows.

    The concorde was designed in 1950-1960s and was up in the skies until the early 2000s with reduced flying times.
    How are we in 2024 and still flying conventional aircrafts with long travel times? Why isnt the technology updated?
    Its absurd having advanced technology few decades ago comparing to the current era.

    My husband and I flew Concorde from JFK to LHR in June 1999. I was an airline employee and we had an agreement with British Airways to travel one way Super Sonic and return sub sonic. My father had worked on the Boeing SST that eventually was scrapped and he really wanted us to go so he gave us the money as an anniversary gift to go. We had smiles on our face the whole flight. I asked when we were boarding if I could sit in the cock pit after landing and the Flight Stewart told me someone was sitting in the cockpit for take off but I could sit there for landing. I smiled and said thank you I would love that. She knew I was "staff" though not actual BA. My husband was jealous but smiled when she came for me before arrival. I sat between the pilot and co-pilot on a small seat slightly behind them. They asked if I had any questions and I couldn't think of which one to ask. So I said, tell me everything you can...No aircraft lands or takes off when Concorde is either departing or arriving. Heathrow was silent and we touched down with a smile still on my face. Best 2 hours and 20 minutes of my life and I've given birth three times.

    Maybe Concorde will never fly again but maybe one day in the future with the right technology the planes could be relocated into simulators and those who did not get a chance to fly her could be in a flight simulator as ‘passengers’ so they can really experience on what it was like to fly her instead of just being told what flying her was like. It would cost money and equipment but it would be worth it hopefully in the future.

    If Concorde had continued to fly, they had to transform all the avionic from analogic to digital , And this costed too money, so chose no fly anymore ? Besides that the aeroplanes were manufactured all with metal and now not ? Concorde aeroplanes were all too much old , so they decided not to continue to fly ?
    I ask

    • @yamato6114
      @yamato6114 3 роки тому

      Not just too old. Extremely expensive as well. Plus 9/11 killed the romanticism of flying so no one wanted to pay the extra money for what was basically a glorified theme park attraction for the wealthy. (No offense I love this aircraft too and it’s gorgeous but it’s a victim of circumstance)

    Wow absolutey amazing. I never really realized the height of the landing gear which is georgeous. And the takeoff roll must be huge with this lil' wings but on the other hand the overall thrust with afterburner is about 38,050 lbf (169kN) each. Ant there are four of those Rolls-Royce Powerplants. What did you think about the two points I mentioned?

    • @barnabyg6808
      @barnabyg6808 7 років тому

      Laddel1 yes, there are four Rolls Royce jets (I believe Olympus) and what you said about the wings, they are very narrow, but they are not standard wings, they stick out like triangles which means that at a higher altitude, the airflow is smoother, the wing design btw is a delta/ canard wing, similar to the Eurofighter or Rafale

    I guess having those small windows were better than none to prevent claustrophobia & give situational awareness for the passengers.

    Do you think the tour guide talked about the people who died on these planes? and their families who still would have them if it were not for the Concorde?

    • @greatflyer_aviation

      The Concorde was a revolutionary aircraft and extremely safe. 'For more than three decades, the Concorde flew the earth's airways with no crashes, no deaths and no injuries more serious than bumps and bruises from occasional evacuations after nonfatal incidents. That means that on the industry's standard safety measure, "hull losses" per million flights, it scored a perfect zero.' The unfortunate events of 2000 (which led to improved runway inspections) unfortunately changed this. but Concorde itself was not the leading cause of the accident.

    I visited the Concorde in Barbados, G-BOAE. As Barbados was the only Caribbean country the Concorde used to fly too BA let the Barbados government keep it and they have a very wonder full exhibit. Thing that shocked me most is how unbelievably tall that aircraft is.
