Once you decide to become a minimalist shooter with a rangefinder, you really don't ever need to buy anything or upgrade again, because the innovation on something minimal rarely is compelling enough to force you to make a change. It's more about are you a manual focus / range finder person or do you want all of the assistance that Sony, Canon, Nikon, Fuji provide? So, look at it as a lifetime investment, like a good pair of shoes - one that will outlast you if you care for it properly.
@@robertstacy4453 problem is even if you want a minimalist set up of let’s say an M11, 28 and 50 summicron, that’ll cost ya $15,000. Lot more than a good pair of shoes.
they need to release a budget friendly camera . their cheapest camera is 2.5k and a pocket camera not that very good for settings . we need a new m budget series
If you didn’t know that going into this video, it seems like you may be just starting out with photography and this camera would not be for you anyway.
I live in Japan and also shoot Leica. When I see the colours of Your photos I am not impressed with that pale green tinge which is not the natural colour range of Japanese flora in general. Maybe You tweaked Your images to taste but it's certainly not what my eyes seeing in the real (Japanese) world. There is also lack of contrast which dilutes natural vibrancy. This Leica can do much better than that what's on show here.
I respectfully disagree. I think it simply shows us a playful personality. There are times when I would totally agree with you, but I think her personality, as well as the topic itself, leave room for a little goofiness at times. 😃
Nicely done! This video has it all. Informative, a great soundtrack, special effects (at least I think those were special effects), and most importantly, something usually lacking in most UA-cam camera review videos, great photos.
It’s Leica’s latest M camera. How could you possibly be surprised about the price? Have you ever actually shot with a M before? You understand the price once you’ve had it in your hands and shot with it’s native lenses.
This câmera does not have a triple resolution sensor, no camera does, it's not a thing. We should be photographers and not free ad agencies for brands. It's sad af.
For 1 or 2%, they just throw it on a card and don't think about it. For the rest of us it comes down to tradeoffs. Some might give up a vacation one year so they can get the gear they want, others will go inexpensive so they can get a nicer car, etc. it all comes down to whether or not you can treat yourself to something at all, and if you can, what is it that is most important to you? I got it because I reached the point in my life when I can afford it and passed on other things as I want to spend more time with photography and using the beautiful devices that Leica makes.
@@gerryphilpott9766 I love that, great point of video, thanks for sharing:) I recently just treated myself to the fujifilm x100v but I hope one day I can experience a leica! Life is too short to not experience things that inspire us and make us happy. Cheers!
@@erinjoy8338 Exactly, small steps...but based on what I heard the x100v is an excellent camera and one many consider a 'lifer.' I'm considering that one to recommend to my daughter if she says she wants to go digital in addition to her Nikon F3 film.
I viewed a lot of M11 videos as I waited for mine to arrive and thought your take on it as a camera review was very refreshing - I love the camera for the same reasons you and most people do and very happy i made the leap. And beautiful shots at the garden, and unique take on 'the queen's gambit.' When the heat dies down here in roasting SoCal I look forward to taking mine out to the Huntington and a few other locales to give it a go. Thanks!
The for the video. Canin and fuji user here.. rented both the canon r3 and the Leica M11 for the same week! what and odd couple. I have 50 Summilux and 28 summicron I use on a fuji. I was surprised how much I geeked out on the M11's simplicity. loved the triple rez. My complaints are 1) slow start up from off and standby... unforgivable for a sweet camera 2) needs a highlight priority mode similar to Fuji's DR400 modes. In that mode, it underexposes the image while boosting the mid and black range... giving you 2 extra stops in the hi lights without giving you underexposed images. Between that and the toe and heel curves that fuji offers, I found the fuji gave me for filmic images than the Leica. I hope they released an m11 with a boosted maestro processor to speed up the perfomance of the camera while keeping the MP count to where it is now.
I believe they may have improved your concern in #2 when they added Highlight Metering in their most recent firmware about a month or so ago. I use it in strong contract situations and really like it.
I used to bring my camera home ( nikon d850 ) after a vacation.. and spend hrs loading on the laptop... so then I would open Lr to start editing. Now with the m11 .. phone .. lr .. finish I'm sure I could have done it with the d850... but leica pushed me to be simple.
Try any mirrorless camera like the Sony Nex 5 + Helios-44m-4 lens. You will get much nicer pictures. There is too much green in these photos, but that's just editiing and my personal opinion.
I really think Leica is in its own league. And there is no reason to compare its price to other camera brands. The only question is that do you want to shoot with a Leica? The bonus point is that there is no camera that can hold its value so strong especially if you think about Leica film cameras
I just picked up a sub $200 rangfinder(35mm film) off ebay a couple weeks ago and it's been fun shooting with it. $200 is a lot of money and so is film and getting it developed but much cheaper than any Leica.
@@raxmendorom wow that's actually a feature I'm into. I remember seeing a video saying they don't like the M11 because it doesn't have good low light performance but the pixel binning should help with that so I wonder what the noise is like with the camera at 18mp vs something like the R6
Mathphotographer did a youtube video on that very subject and on the dynamic range. Long story short recommended still doing all at 60MP but you can watch for yourself.

I still love my M11 even though I had to send it back to Leica this Monday as it locked up after less than 200 shots. Strangely the exact same thing happened to my mates M11 which he bought a week later… hopefully just a bad batch. Otherwise a stunning camera.

It's a nice camera, but the problem with the M11 is that it's still a digital camera. It's a niche camera that's not niche enough.
