Than you for your excellent teaching. I hand pieces several quilts years ago. I learned from Jinny Beyer’s great book Quilting by hand. One of my favorite books but would have benefited at the time from a video. Your awesome.

So fun Susan! Your tutorials are excellent! I pre started because I couldn’t wait. I sewed the join seam down. It worked but am now doing the around and through the seam. It takes a bit to change methods but seems to be working too. I think I’m becoming a bit addicted to this. 🤗. Have a great weekend Susan. I should be preparing for a second job interview which I’m also excited about and I will but really could work on this quilt instead. It is hard to put it down!

I true Joy too learn how to stitch by hand. I’m excited to start putting my four patches together. The May Pole Dance seam looks strong. This is my second watch as I didn’t get to respond on my first watch. Thank You and Be Well

Oh I am so happy this seems helpful !!! I think watching a few times before trying is also a great way to absorb and process the information before taking a stitch. Please share your progress!!!!

I will start sewing my twos into fours tonight. I used thin poly on the twos because it was what I had for English Paper Piecing, but it was hard to use with my old arthritic hands. I got silk today and am hoping it will be better and more enjoyable. Thanks for your video!

Thank you so much for your time and effort. I’ve hand pieced (and hand quilted ) a number of quilts but I always pick up something useful even years later. I’ve been struggling to secure some hand pieced blocks with about six different fabrics joined in the middle (a star of some sort from memory. I shelved it as it was frustrating me as it wasn’t secure enough ). I think I may go back and try and secure using the method you’ve shown here. I believe I tried to do something if that sort but will try again. Thank you for sharing.

Loving these tutorials. In case I didn’t tell you, I wanted to let you know I was in hospital for a toe infection in the bone, I’m diabetic. I have two ports in my arm where my husband was taught to put my antibiotics in ports. Hoping to get antibiotics to work but circulation not good. Still making decision about taking toe off or not. 🧵🧵🧵❤️⭐️Appreciate thoughts and prayers.

I watched this morning while stitching a pickett fence on Eliza Townsend. I’ve cut out my pieces from Australian Aboriginal fabric. I want to make a mat for under my copper colored Singer Featherweight. I plan to piece them together using my toy Singer sewing machine. We’ll see how it goes.
I commented on your last video but it disappeared .

Thank you so much for commenting again. There is a mystery as to why some comments disappear or do not show up! I am delighted to hear about your plans. Your little quilt will be so meaningful and I can’t wait to see how it looks in the gorgeous Australian Aboriginal fabric!!! Your final use for it is an excellent choice!!!!!

Hi Susan, I was wondering why back in the 1800’s that ladies didn’t sew thru the middle section of their squares. I found this fascinating how strong the join is. I haven’t received my kit yet, but watching and practicing on scrap fabric. I’m loving hand stitching. Thank you so much for doing this for us.

Excellent question!!!I will talk much more about it later but if you leave your seam allowance loose and don’t sew over it there is no worry with which direction it is pressed. When you sew over the seam allowance you have to make a pressing plan so the seams don’t end up all bunching up in the same direction. Some early stitchers did however sew over the seams but it’s not the best practice!

Where did you buy your thimble? I have very thin tapered fingers and have trouble finding a thimble that will stay on my hand. Your style may work better than the thimbles I have found. I am really looking forward to receiving my kit. This is going to be an adventure for me. Thank you for doing these videos.

Hi Carolyn! Thimbles are such a personal item and I have tried them all. Over time, I discovered that a tailor's thimble is the best for me as I push with the side of my finger. I have been fortunate to live in places that have quilt shows and sewing expo events. Frequently there are people at these events who custom make thimbles. May favorite is "Thimbles for You". If you go to her website www.thimblesforyou.com/sterling-silver-thimbles/jan-larson-silver-smith/ you can see all of the options she has available. You can check her schedule to see if she will be in your area or contact her for fitting advice. She will work with you to find the thimble you will enjoy! Keep me posted !!
