Haven't got my puppy yet, but as I prepare and watching your videos, I have come to love you both!!! Great People doing Great Things. Thank you for all the information!!!
My puppy is 3 months old, I use your tips for training and he does so well. I am tired of people who complain about their dogs when they don't work with them. Who do they think is going to teach their dogs? You need to spend time with them. A lady that has a litter mate from my puppies litter is amazed what my puppy does, she said she doesn't have time to work with hers. I asked her why she got the puppy then.
Would you mind telling that to my husband??? I try so hard to work with her consistently, and he undoes it. Then scolds her for biting, pottying on the floor, etc... I'm older and disabled. I need his help!
The House Line is such a wonderful tool!! My family & friends thought i was nuts when they saw it. But..... then they saw how well it worked and how it kept my puppy out of trouble or out of dangerous situations, they thought differently. My Cavapoo is now 1.5 y/o, and is so fun! She has done very well, as I followed your training. Every now and again she will test the boundaries & start pogo jumping. So, I focus on the skills you provided to help her remember what she been taught. Thanks a bunch!!
7 month old French Bulldog. She does great most of the time. When we meet a new person or see someone we know...the first 30 seconds are nutty with her "Saying HI!"
I had about 14 dogs that I raised on several years . for the first time I use the short line as you mentionned in several video's and podcast and it works fantastic . I baught a Basenji for my " end of carrier " and OMG I am very pleased with that use of short line , because she is a very difficult girl to raise and so I can prevent several onwanted things she is trying to do all the time . thank you very much . Now I am listening for your loose lease walking to help me with that . simonne / Belgium
How exciting hope her delivery goes well. Thanks for such an information packed video. Tilly is 14 weeks tomorrow. Sleeping in her crate at night beautifully. Working on not biting us among other things. Thanks.
Watching this live feed has convinced me to sign up for your online Puppy Essentials training course. I have a 12 wk old mini Bernedoodle who has done great the first two weeks home just getting acclimated… until today. Apparently he’s now comfortable enough for the demon to come out 😂 Not anymore! I need and want all the help I can get. Let’s go McCann Dogs I want my dog to be one of your good dogs!!!
Our pup is almost 4 months old- she’s the first puppy/ dog our family has had. I spend all day with her, working with her- teaching her-& of course loving & playing.. and she does so well. BUT THEN, the rest of the family gets home. I knew I’d have to teach my kids how to be with her, I did not anticipate my husband & I butting heads 🤦🏻♀️ he has a mindset of lile “she’s a baby- let her be a baby” while also expecting that she’ll just one day stop biting, or no longer have accidents, or not do certain behaviors. It’s extremely frustrating. Within a couple days I already had her not biting hands & nipping at us- then he decided to start rough playing, with his hand, teaching her to go after it😑 I did not expect to have actual arguments with my husband over a dog- but here we are. I just want her to be happy & healthy- and all of us enjoy her as well. And I know that if she’s not trained, no one will be happy! It’s frustrating for me when he undoes all the work we’ve done,& I know it’s confusing for her!
I'm sorry. At the same time it's so good to know I'm not alone in the stubborn husband zone. We neither of us play hands with her. But she bites us, draws blood! She is stubborn with a temper...Boston's often are. If only we had known more of the negatives of the breed perhaps my husband wouldn't have been so headstrong to get one. That was after many trips to local shelters for an adult rescue small dog. I pray your situation works out Jade!
We’ve had our little Shih Tzu, 5 months old on Wednesday 10/18/23, since August 5. I felt like my husband was working against me. Yes, you do have to train them, the husbands, first. Yesterday I had to tell him that it’s still not okay to let Shizi walk to the grass. We have flagstone and gravel pathways. He wants to eat the gravel, leaves and anything else he can. Husband says Shizi has to learn someday. I asked him if it was worth surgery to remove rocks from his stomach. He agreed to carry all 5 lbs to the grass. I’m constantly taking leaves, flower petals and the occasional bit of gravel out of his mouth even when I carry him to the grass. He’s the most hyper, stubborn Shih Tzu out of the 3 we’ve shared our lives with. ❤
i have to agree with you I have had many heated discussions with my husband over this Had to train him and the dog I now go to a proper dog trainer who has taught me how to "voice"train my dog. and i use a "blackdog" soft training lead that the guide dogs use for their dogs .Dogs need to be trained very early from puppie hood .My 7month golden walks for us on her halti easily but she will still play up end of day when husband comes home from work We are in our 70s she will be our last dog . Lots and lots of training
Glad you're finding our videos so helpful! Here's a playlist with more live shows: ua-cam.com/play/PL7BBgLulherngZC-2lurKDN7ucO1ZLGTX.html Happy Training!
I had another dog before this one. He was a lab; she is too. But she is totally different. For months, I've tried what I did with the previous dog but she is so totally different!!! She is super excited, wayyyyyy more crazy!!!!!! Thank goodness, I've used your house line and long line. She has learned a lot. But I am continuing to learn and practice the skills you talk about. Thank you so very much! Otherwise, I'd be so frustrated with her, I don't know if I could have continued to keep her. She is SUCH a different dog than the first one!
Also use a "training halti"soft lead that the guide dogs use amazing difference in obedience when its on also "crate"training is a must. I take my 7month old golden to a dog trainer not just learn off ytube which is helpful also
I’ve been devouring your videos for a few weeks now and I’m excited to get my pups in a few weeks. I’m getting 2 pups at once (bro & sis). Do I keep them in the same crate or separate crates?
Bailey, the 10mth old mini (18kg) labradoodle is joining you from Perth, Western Australia .. tho he's trying to catch some extra zzz's at present, and has deputised me to gather up your great info and then pass it to him later :)
FANTASTIC STUFF!!! I'm a trainer-in-training and loved having some concepts confirmed here, some challenged, and some new! TYSM! (I had to chuckle when you mentioned Spotify. Heh heh... SPOTify? I know... there's the door 😳).
Great information as always. But how do you train your husband to get with the training program? That is one of my biggest problems. I put the collar and house lead on. He takes them off...she doesn't like it, she might get tangled on the furniture, etc... I am disabled and it is very hard for me to stay active and consistent. The crate we have is too big. The first night she went right to it and was fine. But we wanted to hold her and snuggle, and look at her! Wanted to sleep with her as we have all of our previous pets. But this is my first puppy. And she's a Boston Terrier. So stubborn and she has the temper of a pit bull and the teeth to go with it. She's drawn blood on us both. I don't know who's more stubborn of the two of them. I've always had rescue dogs that were over a year old. We almost adopted a dog that was over 5, but were concerned that we would get attached and then the dog would not live very long. Seems like in Nashville, TN it is so hard to adopt small dogs. I wish now we had waited longer for a rescue adult dog. I LOVE our TseTse Rose, but she's almost too much for us. Bad habits already being ingrained. She can be taken out and stay out with us for 2 hours and then use the bathroom on the floor the minute she comes in. Ready to pull my hair out! I've told Bill it's his dog then...but I love her too much already. Too poor to afford classes and such. Wouldn't be able to attend if I could. Somebody please pray for us!
Hilo, Hawaii! Where I live there is a few training classes (on waiting list). Looking forward to watching this!!!! I watched so much of your videos, yet I know I must be doing something wrong, because shes pulling so much that it is hurting my shoulder. Shes a chocolate lab- 10weeks old
We took on two puppies last year and then some structure in our house changed which took time away from training. Now a year later, we have been able to get to the other side of the situation and now we can really focus on training. Do you recommend doing the long lead in the house at about 1 1/2 years old? We need to get back to basics, would you recommend training like they’re a puppy again? They do well with leave it, sit, mostly good at recall (both beagles, male comes every time, female doesn’t come when she’s on a scent). How should we move forward?
My puppy is now 1 yr. He is good on the leash when we walk. Heels well. Sits when I ask and does pretty good at leave it when pass other walkers with dogs. When I started walking him I used a slip leash and found he’d pull. So I used the slip like a gentle leader around his nose. I still am using the same method. Should I start again with just collar and regular leash?
I have a 3 1/2 month old maltese. He weighs 3 pounds. I am 74 . He is obsessed with stealing the puppy pads. He is a real biter. I know it is all normal. He is making me bleed. Maltese are known to be stubborn. This is my 4th Maltese and I am sure that he is very smart. I have been calm and firm but now he won't come when I call him and it makes me feel like I am losing and makes me sad. He loves fetching his little ball, but he gets so excited that he starts biting. For the first time, I feel like a failure with my puppy.
I’m from Vancouver, WA. We have a 4 month old border collie/blue healer mix. His puppy biting is constant, he doesn’t interact with me unless he has his teeth on me
We have 10 week old cockapoo and he's really clever, we've introduced the crate and hes doing great with potty training. The thing we struggle a bit is to attract his attention at times and he has moments when he is digging when hes in our laps or dig the carpet - any advice for the digging as we don't understand what causes it and if there's a way to make him pay a bit more attention to us ? X
I need help bad! I adopted a dog from a rescue 3 weeks ago and he attacks my husband every day! He has puncture wounds all over his legs. It’s viscous! I’ve tried everything I know to do, even medicines from the vet. He is not aggressive towards any other males, just my husband. His name is Dalton and he’s a 16lbs shih-tsu and 5 years old.
I take my dog to a swim center every Saturday for a wile now. She pulls me and the people there terribly and jumping up if we aren’t face level. We often get scratched and hurt. Help!
Perhaps don't take her there until she gets more adaptable. But I hear ya! four and a half month old who is awesome but too excitable around people and dogs cuz she loves them.
Rawlins, Wyoming! Just adopted/rescued Lily a 3.5 year old Bloodhound. She was in a rural area where there were no cars, people or other city noises so she's getting used to that and improving daily. I just need to get her socialized to city life and some leash training.
CAN YOU GUYS PLEASE HELP ME WITH JUST THIS ONE THING. Please. I have a 2 1/2 year old black lab. He is the best dog in the world. The ONLY thing he does that I dont approve and I have no clue how to get him to stop doing is when we are playing outside and he doesnt have a leash on, if other dogs come by or the neighbors are walking their dog, he ALWAYS and I mean always runs over to the dog (always friendly, never mean) and when I call his name, he doesnt listen and stop or come back. I have no clue what to do.
