What disturbs me about Sage Crawford's story is what she screams to her children "dont be afraid to die." As a former psych nurse, what appears to be psychotic behavior suggest those children were not that safe with her. It could have been hours or days until she decompensated to the point of some delusional plan to save her kids by killing them. We've seen how many psychotic mothers destroy their children in religious or safety delusions. We will never know but it's not unfathomable that interacting with the police on that day may have saved those 2 little girls. Its telling that her daughters had no reaction to her yelling, screaming, threats it seems that this baseline was their day to day experience.

SO, this is an interesting case. I know this case. This happened within 3 minutes of where I live and at the time, and when I was a school bus driver, this street was on my route. This happening was a surreal wound for our entire community. She had her own demons. This incident was so tough on the cops and other responders. Untreated mental health and other influences are deadly. Our entire community was so grateful to the neighbor that stepped in for these kiddos in this incident. As soon mom was down and those girls were in the car, she ran to those kiddos to comfort and help LE take care of the situation at hand and keep an eye on those angels. I tear up every time this story pops back up. There was absolutely no other choice for those officers. They were absolutely not only being threatened but were in eminent danger. Although there are many that stood behind Sage's family, most of our community stand with our officers on this case. This video's commentator is right on with his opinion. Our police force here was do not just go straight to these options. They are members of our community that a lot of us grew up with or knew while we were growing up. We are smaller community and this was a wound to us all. My heart is till with those cops and these babies. Because no one is the same after this situation, especially with kids are involved so closely.

Staff at facility I work for attend training, de-escalation techniques year round, assisting with and trying to calm person down, talk with them, reassure them but we have to take action once the patient becomes physically violent.
Sadly, officers had to take the threat down. She could've easily murdered her children with her paranoia, hallucinations and grandiose delusions. Just as one woman who murdered all five of her kids and even told her husband she felt this way. I can't remember date but quite some years ago.
