I may be wrong but, why didn't City try and slot one of their playmaking Midfielders on that back 3 line and move a CB into the midfield line or invert the other FB. Sure, counter attack is dangerous, but they'd likely recover back before Arsenal can pose a real threat. This way you have a player on the ball, who can likely pick out better passes and also play the crosses into the box.
They sort of did, since Gvardiol was playing in midfield and attacking the box, and John Stones came in for Walker. However, Dias and Akanji are not great at attacking crosses, so you can't have them bombing forward. Furthermore, City's midfield are full of dribblers and wingers who thrive on speed, dribbling and short range passing, but they are all terrible crossers of the ball. Without Rodri and KdB, they had no one who can reliably play deep. This is really a limitation of Pep's squad building at play here.
I had a similar idea where in situations like 7:49, Gvardiol should’ve dropped behind Havertz and get himself free whilst creating that space in the left hand side of the box for Doku to run into and for Haaland, Gundogan and Kovacic to move into. The issue wasn’t the long shots, it was the rest of the City players not creating better opportunities off those shots.

Poor analysis. Arsenal conceded the first goal defending in a 4-1-4-1 set up which meant that in the event that the winger beat his fullback he would be left with only Partey to beat before he’s attacking the back line. Partey is easier to bypass than Declan rice hence it was so easy for Savio to find Erling running into the space, the gap was created by Partey following silva instead of condescending the middle and forcing savinho to pass it wide instead of passing it through the central corridor to find Haaland running into the space. Arsenal showed all their strengths and weaknesses this season so far: cruel and effective defense, average and wasteful attack (except for set pieces) 😂
You know those 2 goals were a screamer and a set piece header right? My point is Arsenal has a good defense, even with 11 men, their attack is boring as fuck however
@hungotuan4431 They still had the second best attack last season. Man City only bested them by 5 goals, plus the sample size of games this season is too small to make the boring attack argument. We're still in the early days of the season. Most teams are still warming in.
This was more of a tactical snoozefest from Arteta that 5-4-0 and city trying to break that shape apart was absolutely jarring worse than Jose Mourinho tactics not that it's Arsenal's fault it's that fraudulent referee who sucked the joy out of an entertaining game. But of all games that happened across all leagues ucl this was the one game that entertained tactically ? Come on bro 😂
So they go all out attack in the second half and get ripped open. They came away with a point, defended solidly. As Ferguson once said, defence wins you titles
How could you say Arsenal didn't attack? If the ref did not sent off one player, Arsenal played a balance of attack and defending. It was already 2-1 till Olivercity decided to send off Trossard. Can't blame Arsenal to defend the lead then. Arsenal was just soo good at defending and City wasn't good at attacking against this defense. COYG! Btw lets watch City defend against the 115 and see who's only defending 😂
@@debojyotighosh6733 maybe not as much as people expect but if there is zero attack, there wouldn't be 2 goals, wouldn't it? Right up until the red card happened then Arsenal practically just defended on their own half.
People being so butthurt in the comments is hilarious 😂. Doesn't it make sense to question the fact that City "the best possession side in the World" couldn't break down a 10 man side after 50 minutes or so. City didn't have a good chance till the last second. When was the last time you saw City nullified, saw A Pep Guardiola team out of ideas? People are so funny not understanding how much City suffered and not understanding why Pep has such a low rating. Sure he's one of the greatest managers of all time but this is a single match, it has nothingto do with his accolades in the past, his team struggled and I honestly truly didn't see a 10 MAN Arsenal conceding unless for a deflection which is exactly what happened. If you want to have your narratives that Arteta is trash, sure...believe that but don't forget its not just Arsenal that play low blocks against City. Don Carlo did it last season, multiple teams have, but this result, with 10 men as well, it cant be overlooked and any with any tactical knowledge knows how great of a defensive performance this was
10 men (4 CBS) defending for 55 minutes in their third of the pitch doesn't make it extraordinary. All Arsenal cared was to defend the lead. Their plan was to defend the lead to win. You are speaking as if Arsenal were attacking. They only came out of their shells when there was a throw in or goal kick at the other third. 10 men outplaying and scoring man city is extraordinary. We know Peps teams always struggle against moderate teams when it's 10 / 11 players behind the ball
Your title is a click bait. How did Arteta shut down, Pep? Game ends in a draw. Questionable decisions by ref. And 45 minutes of parking the bus. How's this a shut down?
Scored in last minute because City were shut down. City celebrating a draw at home after complaining about us celebrating last season. Double standards
Everyone keeps saying arsenal defended well. The ref basically gave them the first goal. And turned a blind eye for the second because ederson was clearly blocked, and then they were luvk enough to injure Rodri, I believe if Rodri had played the full game that match would have ended 4-0 to City, city's attack was just lacking , but still better than arsenal's entire gameplay and I am sure arteta knows that

Not even close? It was a draw.
Let's make analysis on how referees ruin this game and don't judge consistenlty
Even with 10 men they atleast should have tried to counter them as their CB were too high. Even Mourinho is better than this. Arsenals chance creation was also poor. 1st goal was a moment of magic and their set piece routine seems dodgy. Arteta dosent deserve praise here the players do.
Bro gaslighting Arsenal
First time commenting
But what about maresca
Make tactical video of Kompany's Bayern
Any team can do it if they parked the bus on any other day city would've scored
Pep will go on to buy attacking midfielders that are tall and convert them into CB's after this game now, we know it
As long as we a unbeaten we don't care for how long
It's a draw. Get your click bait outta here
Arsenal park the bus and time waste - tactical master class
Newcastle ( or any non big 6 team) park the bus and time waste- disgraceful
And they say big 6 bias isn't real.
Yes if u don’t attack, and just camp in your half, of cos u can stop the other team. Basically arsenal is not interested to play football.
Is defending not a part of the game
Stop being a cry baby and accept arteta out tacticed pep
Am sick and tired of y'all behaving like defense isn't a valid tactic
Imagine criticizing a team that's winning with a man down for not attacking. Especially considering the ref sent their player off for an offence he didn't send someone off for the week earlier. If Arsenal lost 4-0, you'd be laughing, but because you don't get to laugh now, you're crying.
Obviously not. Every team who tries it gets smashed and Arsenal can’t afford to lose ground to City so early.
We want Kompany video
That's a very nonsensical headline
On every channel like this all I see is Slot and Flick and I hate it lol. Kompany is so much more interesting and most importantly Bayern is so much more stronger than any other Team right now. Even before the season I dont get how you cant make a video about the new Bayern coach no matter who it is
The allegri dark arts strike again
He can shut down the master of attack
Terrorist football, no fans should ever have to pay to see such live!! I genuinely feel sorry for the fans at Ederson’s end during the 2nd half😂
Ask the Premier League ref why always ruining the game

Atalanta dominated Arsenal.
Inter played equal to City.
In the end, it is not all about Premier League, Madrid and Barcelona
And Inter will play Arsenal in november also
Pls do bayern vs Leverkusen
ARSENAL: ALMOST
Arsenal showed all their strengths and weaknesses this season so far: cruel and effective defense, average and wasteful attack (except for set pieces) 😂
You do realise they played for 45 mins with a man down and led for most of that time on City's home ground, right?
You know those 2 goals were a screamer and a set piece header right? My point is Arsenal has a good defense, even with 11 men, their attack is boring as fuck however
@hungotuan4431 They still had the second best attack last season. Man City only bested them by 5 goals, plus the sample size of games this season is too small to make the boring attack argument. We're still in the early days of the season. Most teams are still warming in.
Agree, Arsenal attackers are horrible at this point, except Saka. No Odegaard really been lost for them
It’s ten vs twelve
Key word is ALMOST. Ie they failed

@@obeleebube6704 What is Arsenal good at other than defending and set pieces 😆😆😆

Yeah, Hurteta is great opinion 👉🤡
The plan was to take out rodri
Parked the bus
Only defence is not champion mentality.... that's why arsenal still searching premier league 😔
@@gerardgoh attack? Go and check out number of total short...bro 😉
@@debojyotighosh6733 maybe not as much as people expect but if there is zero attack, there wouldn't be 2 goals, wouldn't it? Right up until the red card happened then Arsenal practically just defended on their own half.
If it takes all that work to get a draw from Arsenal i think they got a good chance to win the league and go to semis in the ucl
That's because they were focused on defending. If they had 11 men, there'd have been spaces to exploit.

How did he shut him down ? You are a disappoint.
Mikel Artetinho
Your title is a click bait. How did Arteta shut down, Pep? Game ends in a draw. Questionable decisions by ref. And 45 minutes of parking the bus. How's this a shut down?
Scored in last minute because City were shut down. City celebrating a draw at home after complaining about us celebrating last season.
Double standards
@@ezigweultimately City will win it again despite Rodri injured + Arsenal don’t have the quality of players or manager to do so too

@@j_0278 You said it since last year
Everyone keeps saying arsenal defended well. The ref basically gave them the first goal. And turned a blind eye for the second because ederson was clearly blocked, and then they were luvk enough to injure Rodri, I believe if Rodri had played the full game that match would have ended 4-0 to City, city's attack was just lacking , but still better than arsenal's entire gameplay and I am sure arteta knows that
The ref gave walker enough time to get into position and he didn't use it. And Rodri or not we would have won if it was 11 v 11
