A lot of these are either sequels to games I've never played, remakes that I'm not that interested in, or mobile games that I probably won't try, but there's a lot for most people to be excited for. Personally FF16 I'm really looking forward to, Disgaea 7 I'm praying is better than 6, interested in Like A Dragon Ishin, and might pick up the new Neptunia game eventually, if/when it goes on discount.

Reverie isn't just a conclusion to the Cold Steel games, it's a conclusion for all the previous 9 games before it, and essentially the first half of the series. (According to Kondo at least for the latter part)
Which games came before the Cold Steel games in terms of story?
@@RockyVegaTV Trails in the Sky trilogy and the Crossbell duology are both set before Cold Steel. For the most part the story follows the series in chronological release.

Cold Steel 1 and 2 as well as the Crossbell arc took place concurrently following the events of Sky 3, with Azure spoiling stuff from CS 2, so this part is more like this (Zero --> CS 1 --> Azure --> CS 2) according to the official timeline
THEN Cold Steel 3 and 4 follow where CS 2 left off
and finally Reverie concludes the whole saga

Most hyped about Dragon Quest 3 remake, man it looks great. The fact that they kept to 2D sprites instead of going to 3D models means that they still have someone who knows what hes doing. It just doesn't hit the same way, real shame Disgaea decided to transition as that was one of their selling points for me.
That one looks so good! I agree it's probably the one I'm most hyped for too.
Great list, absolutely packed year for JRPGs. Fire Emblem, Ryza and YS X are the big ones for me.

It's really nice to know that Legend of Heroes Trails franchise is FINALLY starting to get some love ( PS: I've finnished almost all trails franchise from Sky FC to Reverie ; Currrently playing Kuro and waiting for Crimson Sin ). I am a REALLY BIG die hard fan for this franchise and love jst everything about it to the point of not missing a single content including the npcs to talk to from minor to major ones.

Megaman Battle Netowkr Collection is gonna a smash hit. 10 games in all, one battle and trade between games and at a solid price. You should def. look into them Shadow.

''10 games'', it's actually just 6 games with slight variations in content from BN3 to BN6
they're the ''Pokémon'' entries where 95% of each mainline game is the same in both versions and 5% exclusive to each version
so basically, you don't need to play all 10, just play BN 1, BN 2, only 1 version for BN 3, you can skip BN 4 entirely as that one sucks so much, only 1 version for BN 5 and then only 1 version of BN 6
OF COURSE if you rather play all of them, there's that option, but the above is the better option IMO
plus the missing stuff isn't all that important for story purposes or can easy be seen on UA-cam to save you an unnecessary double dip
FF XVI has me hyped for one reason; it's being created by the team that does FFXIV, one the best Final Fantasy games I've played. Can't wait for Front Mission 1&2.
FF XIV is amazing, not just for an MMO, but as a game in general.
So at least we know it's in the hand of people who actually care about making good games.

Just started my trails journey last year in January just finished sky the 3rd Christmas Eve and very same day bought trials from zero on my steam deck and am almost done with that one more chapter to go it’s safe to say this series has taken over my life lmao
For Granblue Fantasy: Relink, I read they were going to have a demo available next month in January (I think it was). Also, there should also be another game update in January as well. The update was supposed to be this month, but yeah, here's hoping this game comes out FINALLY in 2023!
Correct, there will be information on the 21st. I think the demo will be playable for attendees of the event but I’m hoping they release it for everyone. We deserve that after the long waits. Lol
When I saw this game for the first time (first trailer) I was in high school. Now I have 1 month left until graduation from my University but I'm still waiting for this game

If you haven't played anything in the Suikoden series do yourself a favor and get them. They are absolute gems. Suikoden II is one of the best games of all time. And while Suikoden 3 wasn't as highly reviewed I absolutely loved it.

This was a really fun list, a lot of games I didn't know about it, but I'm now interested in, my most anticipated is easily Trails into Reverie as I love the trails series, especially since my favorite cast of characters in general should be here, old and new class vii, can't wait to rock out with Rean, Fie, Alisa, Millium and the others, I'm getting hype just thinking about it, lol, anyway, great video, I just found you today in my recommendation, so looking forward to more :)

Regarding the Suikoden Remasters. In your own thoughts regarding Trails of Cold Steel. I will hunt you down and force you to play the first Suikoden as well. You just can not start with 2 and expect to understand a good part of the story, lore and returning characters.
Besides, Suikoden 1 at best is only a 12-15 hour game to 100% at a casual speed.
Yea it's a direct sequel, a short game and 100 percent worth playing.

Suikoden is a story about War, Politic, Family, Friends, and Betrayal that's gonna make your emotion like roller coaster up and down.

There's definitely a good amount of JRPGs coming out this year that I want to play. Atelier Ryza 3, FE Engage, FF XVI, FF VII Rebirth, Granblue Fantasy ReLink, Steller Blade, Eterknights, etc.
FE Engage is coming very soon and I'm well prepared for it.
And yes I have my *REASONS* to play Ryza 3, I love the game so much, it's cute, relaxing, and the alchemy system is very fun to do to make so many items and weapons with different traits and such. And no its not also because I have a shrine of Ryza figures

I'd be pleasantly surprised if Hoyoverse was able to release _Zenless Zone Zero_ in 2023. While they did do their first closed beta test, and what they have so far was very well received, I would think they still have a long way to go before they get it into a release state. _Honkai: Star Rail_ , their other upcoming known entry, has had two closed beta tests, and a lot changed in the game between them. Another factor that has me convinced that the teams focusing on these games is making big efforts in getting things just so is that the Canadian division that had previously been working on Hoyo's FPS entry decided that wasn't working out, and after pulling the plug completely on that project, promised to reassign everyone that had been working on the FPS game to other projects -- meaning either under development or other upcoming unknown titles. It seems CEO Forest Dawei has some big issues not developing as many different projects as possible. Hoyo is crazy like that, and I love it. And of yeah, they're a Chinese company, so nothing they produce is technically a JRPG.
_Honkai: Star Rail_ uses the turn-based combat style, like early _Final Fantasy_ games, and of course, it's a gacha game with tons of characters to get. I hear rumours it'll be more F2P friendly, like _HI3_ is. I also usually call it 'open world,' but I've also heard it's not. There was EN dubbing in the trailers, so like _Genshin_ it'll have more language options than Hoyo's previous games. I believe it's expected to release early in 2023, so definitely looking forward to that. Unfortunately my computer's pretty potato, so the casualty this time will probably be _Tower of Fantasy_ , which I haven't played in awhile. _HSR_ will have the player traveling between worlds, and as usual there's more going on under the surface than meets the eye. There'll be some familiar faces, although these aren't the people we know: a younger Murata Himeko, versions of both Haxxor Bunny and a slightly older Bronya Zeychik, Seele Vollerei, and Carole Peppers and Welt Yang (who come over to this game from _HI3_ 's APHO mode). There's even a playable version of Otto Apocalypse.
_Zenless Zone Zero_ is slated to be a rogeulike, and the first entry not taking place in the Honkaiverse despite the very similar enemies. You play as a pair of siblings who own a video / random jobs shop, who associate with a group of people who can go into these special zones to fight monsters and collect energy from the monsters. Nicole, the person Shadow used in his thumbnail, heads her own group, although there are multiple. Because _ZZZ_ isn't supposed to be part of the Hoyoverse, we shouldn't expect any familiar faces, or even any Honkai to show up. But that just means more cool designs, plus the music's complete banger once again. Despite the plethora of beauties, my favourite happens to be the wolf butler because he's got frikkin rocket boots.
If you're wondering, because of the story and character development, as well as the fast and flashy combat, _Honkai Impact 3rd_ is my current favourite game, both by Hoyo and otherwise. While the story does take a bit to get started, it really hooks you in and gets you emotionally invested, and best of all, for the story content, the gacha is completely optional because the game'll lend you trial versions of the characters you need.
I also have to say that looking at _HI3_ , _HSR_ , and _ZZZ_ really makes it more apparent to me that _Genshin_ is just a little bump on the way to more amped up things for Hoyo. There's no comparison between what players get in _Genshin_ in its current version and what was on offer in _HI3_ way back when, nevermind now, and sadly the devs have decided to make it clear _Genshin_ will never get the challenging endgame content the super-whales want. Instead, it'll stay as Easy Mode. But okay, it's their best-known title. My guess is Hoyo's strategy is to hook people in with _Genshin_ before exposing them to their other titles, which are more specialist and offer different challenges. It works, too: I'm completely addicted to and invested in _HI3_ , while I'm sure others are playing _Tears of Themis_ while looking forward to _HSR_ and _ZZZ_ . Hoyo also just teased the new battlesuits for Bronya, Mei, and Kiana (Mei's will be free if you play the upcoming story in time), and I'm definitely getting all three, and their gear. They just look so cool.

Everyone who says octopath travler 1 story isn't connected either didn't play all 8 pathes, didn't read at all, or didn't do the endgame boss which legit tells you how every single path connects by flashing it in a big red neon sign.
Difficult to say but i think Final Fantasy 16 and Rebirth get me the most interested. And i hope 16 is better then 15.

Having only played Persona 4 Arena, i cant argue about what's the best. All I know is that P4A's story was great. Certain character's personal stories legit made me cry while playing. As to FF16, im beyond hyped. Been a fan of the series forever and am looking forward to 16.

Awesome video! Hoping all these come to the Steam Deck since I bought one I haven't touched my PS5 in months! Even Genshin Impact who most said couldn't be played on Steam OS because of it's anti-cheat software is now playable on the Steam Deck on Steam OS. You gotta luv the Steam Community. If there isn't a way, give them a few months and they'll find a way to get any game to work on the Steam Deck. Looking to play Honkai Star Rail on my Steam Deck as well after the Steam Community releases a launcher for it! Keep the awesome videos coming! 😎👌

Since you tossed in 1 kick starter, how about Battle Fantasia and Penny Blood? Personally I'm all about Battle Fantasia but both are getting serious hype.
For me its penny blood, I've always loved shadow hearts. Don't think they're likely to be 2023 releases though, I'm guessing thats why they were omitted.

It's great to know there is another fan of the God Eater series, and I hope the next installment is much more fast pace and somewhat similar to daily life of god eater or even a reclaim the land from the aragami like tower defense but more action-rpg style.
Definitely feel you on the lack of hype for Final Fantasy 16. It used to be the premier JRPG series where I would get excited for each new release, but I don't think I'm even going to buy 16
It turned into an over the shoulder arpg. Not what I fell in love with.
When I look at ff16 it reminded me more of ff14 mmo than a mainline final fantasy title.
16 gets a huge amount of hype from me for the connection to 14. 14 has probably my single favorite FF story of any of the mainline games in shadowbringers. Bringing that writer on is huge for me

@@henriquevasconcelos3441 Not at all, it’s always been story focused. Gameplay for it doesn’t matter. And they’ve shifted toward action combat since the early games. Hell the 1st game was meant to have combat akin to Zelda. But the plan fell through due to the state of square at the time.
lol Dragon Sword got announced/dropped a trailer right after your vid dropped like you said. It’s more of an MMO but it’s definitely gives JRPG vibes and might play like one in some cases
Getting Atelier Ryza 3, all the Trails ones herein, FF 16, and the Suikoden I/II remaster. Out of all those, I might be able to go without Trails of Nayuta (pending more specific information) and FF 16.
Honestly, I tried getting into Trails through Cold Steel but through the first game and Rean's character I just wasn't feeling it. I'll try out the Crossbell game and see how I feel about that one.
Even if it way late I'm still beyond happy to be getting more Trails of Game

Granblue the mobile game is still extra strong and boy they are confident on their cross over and events right now.
Considering ow fast those bars for the current "Age of tyranno" are filling right now ( a community event where every player is contributing ) ..i'm not that worried

I agree with you on Final fantasy, is like they're focusing more on graphics than engaging gameplay for me, I didn't like 15's gameplay nor 7R with it's weird atb but action kinda gameplay mixed with walking and talking simulator from games like the last of us, people (including me) criticize 13 for being too linear and on rails but 7R is literally the if not worse yet people love it, I really don't tbh, I enjoy exploring and other stuff. And I'm also not excited for 16 because I'm not into this direction.
People say "you're just biased towards turn based combat" and while yeah I love turn based combat my favorite franchise is the Tales series, and that's an action jrpg series same with Kingdom hearts, I'm just into the type combat FF is doing nowadays
technically for the trail game you can start with any game you just won't understand it until you watch an explanation of the various plot point of the serie

over on the gbatemp forums, i think i heard that somebody was able to preload Advance Wars at some early point of preordering it, and the game unlocked for them when the original release window came about. dude pretty much claiming to be the only person in the world to have a copy of the game

Suikoden series was far better than the Final fantasy series. You love it, but still the spiritual successor is going to be even better than that. Not just because I am a dead person in the game. challenge you to find my grave.
Fire Emblem Engage, Octopath Traveler 2, and FF16 are the Holy Trinity of RPGs for 2023 for me.

I liked this video, but I had a reaction I had to share. At 8:20, he claims that "The Final Fantasy series, since nearly the beginning, has always tried to change up the formula from what we know to be an RPG." I've been recently getting back into them, but one of the things that made me stop playing them for a long time was the direction the series/company chose to go after FFX. That was post Enix merger, where they became Square Enix, and AFTER THAT, they started trying to change the formula, much to the dismay of many fans. I myself was welcoming of the changes for a while, but eventually I started to miss what made FF great in the first place. So no, for a long time they were about refining the formula of what makes a good RPG, and only started to branch out after they merged with their biggest rival in the industry and had the RPG market cornered. Then they kinda shifted into a more developer status, and all the square franchises, especially FF, got really weird.
This comment made me feel old, lol, because no, FInal Fantasy was not always about taking big swings, they used to be about making a solid but predictable product. But I probably only feel that way because I stopped playing the series after X, I couldn't get into X2, 11, or 12. By the time 13 came around I was done with the series, and only got back into it for 15. Before that, every single FF title is recognizably part of the same game series with very similar game mechanics. Anyway, sorry for the pointless old guy rant.

Cannot say the same about Fire Emblem's character design--the game looks garish to me. And the mechanic hook doesn't really grab me.
As an FE fan, though, I hope that's just the trailer and that I'm wrong about the actual game.

Agreed P5 is the best in the series, played 3p 4g 5 and 5r, 5/5r is still the one I like the most
to my understanding Ryu Go Gotoku (i hope i'm saying that right) which is the Japanese name for the yakuza series, translates to Like A Dragon so really they are going back to the actual name of the series

The only two games you missed that I would add to the list are Y's X and FUGA 2. I played FUGA 1 this summer and absolutely adored it to no end, it's a game that sticks with you and was a pleasant surprise. Looking forward to the sequel.
This is the only upcoming games of 2023 video on youtube that has featured all 3 trails games coming to the west in 2023: Azure, Reverie and Nayuta. That is thorough and is why I'm subbed to your channel. Trails, for me, is what FF was between FF 6 and 10 (the golden years): absolutely the best JRPG experience on the market, bar none. I know that this channel will always give trails the love it deserves. That's why your channel is great.
