This has been one of the best 6 month stretch for JRPG releases IMO Infinite Wealth is the best thing I've played so far this year. Unicorn Overlord was top tier as well. P3R and DD2 were both really fun. Eiyuden Chronicle was a 7/10 bc it had enough issues and lack of balancing that pulled me out of the experience. I did not get around to FF7 Rebirth yet
You definitely should play Infinity Wealth. Even tho I haven't finished it yet, but the gameplay and job improvements definitely made it more enjoyable also the sub-story definitely my favorite from the entire series
Im probably in the minority because i haven't played many new games this year, but Granblue Fantasy Relink has been a blast for me. It got me into the series and I really enjoyed it. From what I've seen FF Rebirth and Unicorn Overlord look solid and im looking to play next
The thought of waiting to play through all 3 FFVII Remake games at once is just...man...that's a LOT of game. I'd be worried about burning out before getting through it all.
Atlus' behavior makes sense when you look at their corporate overlords at Sega. They're crazy over DLC at Sega! I think the only games of theirs that DON'T have DLC are the games in the Sega Genesis Collection they keep releasing & re-releasing!
@@ShadowEliteHD Yep, not just the Persona or SMT fans either. They made sure to milk Etrian Odyssey fans on the 3DS along with fans of standalone titles like Radiant Historia: Perfect Chronology & the 7th Dragon III Code: VFD game! (I know that 7th Dragon is a series in Japan, but the 3rd game is the only one released in North America so it still counts as a standalone title in my book.) FYI, I bought all the DLC for all those titles on 3DS before Nintendo shut down the eShop.
My JRPG of the year so far has got to me The Legend of Heroes: Trails Through Daybreak...demo! lol Well, since it was announced I knew it was most likely gonna be my game of the year and after playing the demo it just confirmed it even more. There are a lot of great games I've played but Trails is my #3 in my TOP 3 game series of all time, the others being Tales Of and Persona, and with Tales Of not having a new game out this year and P3R being just a remake of P3 with no big changes to the story, yeah, Daybreak so far has got this in the bag. 2024 is a damn banger of a year for games in general. Aside from Trails Through Daybreak I'm REALLY looking forward to playing Dragon Ball Sparking! Zero. That game is gonna be something special man.
@@ShadowEliteHD unfortunately this brand is a very niche series even more of Ys, sadly it will never have the right recognition unless Nihon Falcom is purchased from some big publisher and gains better funds and marketing.
@@ShadowEliteHD Same! Hopefully Daybreak turns into the Persona 5/Like A Dragon for the Trails series and helps the series do really well. Cold Steel helped push it into the limelight but maybe Daybreak can make that light shine even brighter.

ff7 rebirth is clearly the best jrpg out this year. its not really close, the game deserves the recognition, both from rebirth itself and the original making all these jrpgs possible in the west
Comparing FFVII Remake and Rebirth sales isn't a fair comparison, not is the PS 5 install base a great deal smaller than the PS 4. There was also the fact it released in 2020, so you had a number of people who had to stay at home due to the pandemic. I still haven't picked up Rebirth yet, since I don't have a PS5 (really only interested in the next Switch in terms of 'next' gen consoles, since I have a higher end PC) I am loving Eiyuden Chronicles: Hundred Heroes. It does have that classic JRPG feel to it, and I really am enjoying all the characters.
They blew their load w FF7 Remake bc half the audience expected a faithful remake. The more casual fans probably didn't even finish Remake so they'll lose some people and PS5 exclusive def hurts it too
I always feel like such a weirdo watching these type of videos. Like, I know I have unusual tastes when it comes to games, but it's another actually seeing my thoughts compared with others. Like, most of the ones listed here are either games I liked enough but still had a lot of issues with ("FF7 Rebirth", "Granblue Relink") or just straight up don't care about ("Persona 3 Remake", "Dragon's Dogma 2"). That said, I still gotta play "Unicorn Overlord" and "Eiyuden Chronicle". I've been tackling so many longer games back-to-back that it's pushed back so many other games. Not to mention letting other newer releases cut in line and purposely mixing up genres so I don't get burnt out. They've just been sitting in my backlog at a result but I do definitely want to get to them sooner than latter. If nothing else, I at least have "Unicorn Overlord" scheduled to be played in like 3 games or so (after "Stellar Blade", "Touhou: Double Focus", and "Touhou: Luna Nights").
Unicorn Overlord looks really cool. I wish they would port it to PC though. Playing anything on the Switch is a last resort or for Nintendo exclusives.

I waited so many years for Eiyuden Chronicles and then for Octopath Traveler to fix the same issue the one had but nope... those games are designed like that sadly.
