just a tip from a guy that cooks...skin the turkey or chicken, render the skin down and the crispies left make excellent dog treats, my dogs get excited any time I am fixing any kind of poultry, or pizzas, the pizza crust edges also dehydrate and make great treats.
@Tooty161 My kitchen aid was just recently given to me. i could never bring myself to pay that kind of money for one. It is in my video library. What a blessing this has been to us as I have kneaded my own bread for 30 + years. Thank you for your comments. : )
@Tooty161 I'm with you I couldn't bring myself to even buy one for 100.00 off of craigslist. And then I had three peaple that wanted to give me one.... Crazy...
Quick question, does your ground turkey turn out moist enough like store bought ground turkey? Or is it rather dry? I did this once a few years ago and it seemed dry to me. I am considering the idea of keeping the fat from turkey and/or chicken stock and mixing that into ground turkey. I am hoping that this will moisten the meat. Do you have any thoughts or advice? BTW, thank you for the video! Great job!
I do this...ground turkey here has gone up by leaps and bounds and now costs more per pound than ground beef. During the holidays our local grocer does a deal for Thanksgiving turkeys for 29 cents a pound, so I bought a dozen of them (about 150 pounds) and hopefully they will last us all year!
Great video! The cost is higher for the ground meat than the $.49/lb you mention, but it is still considerably cheaper than buying the pre-packaged ground turkey at the store. Catching the turkeys on Thanksgiving (or after-Thanksgiving) sales will be the key. Another fun project I'm going to jump into.
Thank you so much for posting this. It is exactly what I was looking for and covered all my questions in one single video!!! Can't wait to watch more. I also am glad the guy commented below about rendering the skin down for my dogs!!! Merry Christmas 2013!!!
i am looking at a meat grinder for me to grind my own meat but my question is that kitchenaid grinder a good one because i saw i medal one on Amazon and i just think medal would be better than plastic but i don't know so i am asking you what do you think would last longer
Now that it is getting to be Thanksgiving eve the prices on the turkeys is getting about as low as it can go and the amount of money you just saved is excellent! One of the best attachment for the kitchenaid is the grinder!
Hi. I see you are using the meat grinder attachment for the kitchenaid. I was thinking about getting it. Wasn't sure how long it would last being plastic looking and all. Would you suggest that one or a different one. Thank you 4 a great video. I do love all your videos that I've seen.
Thank you so much. I have been looking for ways to save on meat. We eat meat once a day to save on our groceries and eat healthy. Also making our own dog food. I knew i could de-bone a turkey? Just was not sure how. Next video to watch your canning broth etc.
I have an old kitchen aid mixer and grinder attachment. I have a question, can you sow how you removed the skin. I am o,d, but still a novice. I am tring to find unfrozen turkeys to skin and grind the turkey to (no don't laugh), to feed my dogs and cats an elimination diet. Also it s tme I eat healthy.
Great video, one thing you didn't mention an i think is the best reason to do this is you know everything thats in your meat nooo infamous mystery meat! Great video. Thanks for sharing, Ryan
49c a pound ..... poor turkey ...... Industrial chemical filled turkey ..... and we wonder why we get cancer one reason is eating cheap meat ...... spend a bit more and buy animals that atleast can see the sun and grass before they die
This looks great! Too bad I can't afford a meat grinder at this time and also don't want the other parts of the bird except the breast. But, I think more people should definitely do this. Thank you for sharing!!
I watched this to see whether it was easy to butcher the whole bird. We have 49c/lb frozen turkeys at the grocery this week. I'm trying to make a budget meal plan for my husband and I. We love turkey meatloaf, chili, and burgers (w/ jalapeño!). BUT, ground turkey is SO expensive. I'm going to do this! I can make a stock and put the legs in the smoker. YUM!
Sadly the younger generation doesn't care or is just too lazy to do this. I have been doing this for years just to save money and to control what goes into my ground product. No added fat. Awesome vid. Keep up the good work.

Wow, thank you for the inspiration! Just bought 3 turkeys here for .59 cents a pound.
@Tooty161 i don't know about my knife skills but yes are you talking about link sausages? It is just one more step. : )
Regardless of how the economy is, it's always awesome to have ground turkey at 49 cents a pound. Cool vid, thanks for sharing!
I don't season it until I use it ... All my poultry recipes are on a play list on my channel. I personally don't like store bought near as well:)

is it all right to buy frozen turkey thaw them ,then grind package and refreeze? I really like all the videos on how to make thing yourself nice job

if turkey is frozen and can u thaw and grind and refreeze ?
Yes...
No!! Meat can be refrozen ONLY if you cook it completely before refreezing!! All meat!
M R FDA says it's okay to refreeze raw meat. Just that might make the quality drop due to moisture loss
thanks... It's on my project list for this weekend! I really appreciate your giving the times, that's what I was most curious about.
@kannab100 : )
What did you use to pack your meat?
Great job!
Thank you so much
Amazing
