I’ve watched a LOT of Hutchy interviews and I’ve never seen him so relaxed. The relationship Whit has with these lads really does smash through the screen. Great job and wishing Hutchy all the best for this years NW200 and TT (I have to say the Milwaukee paint job is the best I’ve seen in a long time, stunning 👌🏻)

Thanks RST, Jamie & Ian. Two of the genuine good guys of the sport. I have nothing but admiration and respect for Ian. His determination and resilience is beyond reproach. 45 surgeries, three massive lay offs & come backs. Whatever Hutchy chooses to do, he will always be known as one of the greats of road racing, always a winner.

What a great interview, relaxed and honest you can tell the friendship between you both. I was stood on the coast road on Thursday practice piss wet through watching the bikes flying past in horrible conditions.
Very brave. By the way Hutchy I was the marshal that picked you up at Cadwell Goose Neck and stopped you walking on to the live circuit when you cartwheeled your bike i think you where on bike Animal Honda and had been not feeling well prior to racing.
Your bike was a bit worse for were and once everything was recovered I noticed a clutch cover sock left in the grass.
I still have it if you want it back.

This should be shown to schoolkids, to show them the sheer willpower humans are capable of with enough self belief and determination.
Ian Hutchinson is a local lad to us, being from Bingley ourselves, and I am in absolute awe of the man.
His journey has been mind blowing, what he's gone through and come back from, several times over, and the iron spine and gigantanium nuts he has are just incredible.
I couldn't respect a man any more than I do Ian Hutchinson.

Fantastic interview, thank you so much. Hutchy is a legend and inspiration. Never met him unfortunately. This has extraordinary meaning to me as I lived not far from Bingley and my brother was best friends with David Jefferies in the 80's, we were neighbours too, living literally just round corner from their bungalow in Baildon. I never knew Hutchy worked at Allan Jefferies, it was probably the old shop in Saltair. I was lucky to have known the lovely Jefferies family through my brother and my dad knew the Lampkins too. Even living in Cornwall now for 25 years, I always follow the TT closely. I must also add that I love JW too, he was also one of the greats and I always enjoy his interviews and vast knowledge and experience.

I have nothing but respect to Ian Hutchinson, this lad went through hell with his injuries and still wanted to race motorbikes,I'm not a fan of him honestly and he is not my favorite, but what a fighter he is,glad that he is still racing this year and I hope that he gets good results, and one thing that I'd need to mention and I've heard a lot of times about racers in the UK is that most of them came from nowhere and they didn't have the money to race, and they bacame racers, they didn't have money or sponsorship to go racing, like in hutchy'a case, no bike because he couldn't afford one, no money he had 20 quid and gambled to get entry fees, and dj lent him a bike,I feel that most racers in the uk came out of poverty!! , racing was always rich people's sport but where are the sponsor's from these guys it makes me wonder!!

I remember 10 years ago or so being stood at the end of cronk y voddy straight at a garden wall at the end of straight it bends to the right then drops into a dip right in front of where we’re stood it seemed most riders may hook back a gear and roll into it. But fast riders do it different. John McGuiness was ultra fast & compact just letting off so the blade settled in perfectly and carried on with no drama, Steve plater was similar but not as quick. (This is every lap) Ian lougher scared the crap out of everyone on that wall each time he came round, the AIM R1 was crossing up so bad we thought he was gonna over the wall with us! Hutchy took it completely differently, he got closer to us(the wall) than anyone else with a massive (I’m not letting off) wheelie every time. His style was incredibly purposeful(on that bend more than anyone else) It was shocking! Bruce antstey was only person doing anything like this on that bend...Amazing! If you’re every at the tt and the guy who owns that house at the end straight will let you stand behind that wall, it is truly mental. A year end later when me and my mate went to macau (we were literally the only two people that had gone from England to watch the race). I was lucky enough to get the chance to tell Ian in a bar in Rio’s everything I’ve just wrote in this comment. sorry Ian if you remember i was that pi##head! To be fair Ian explained to me exactly how he approached that section of tt track & in intricate detail the reasons why he went past (every lap) in that way. Thanks for taking the time to explain it to me. You did it Ian and it was on the last of the non-traction control crazy superbikes

I love these little interviews you’ve done, James, but this one really struck a chord for me. I’m closer to you age than Hutchy’s, but even though I lived just up the road from him (in Saltaire), I never realised he was a ‘normal’ road-rider, and we had all the same stomping grounds. I bought my first bike (or rather my mum did) from Nick Jefferies (no idea who he was at the time). It was to get me to school at Apperley Bridge, and was purely some transport, when I was 16. Nick showed us several second-hand mopeds, and my mum said, “Oh, I can’t afford that” each time. When he patiently asked what she COULD afford, he showed us a beaten-up old FS1-E in the back, explaining that they didn’t usually sell anything like this, but he could fix this and that up a bit, and do it for the price she said. (She was also shocked at the fact she’d forgotten I’d need a helmet!) -Oh, and also, I didn’t know how to ride. “No problem, I’ll get one of the mechanics to show you in the carpark, when you pick it up.” Those were the days, eh?) 😳🙄
Nice to know Hutchy went to all the places we did. I probably even know the bend he was on about on that road over Ilkley Moor. I passed my test on a 125, when I was 17, and frequently went over those moor roads between Baildon and Ilkley Moors, to pick up my girlfriend of the time, who lived a mile or two beyond the Cow & Calf rocks, where you did your interview.
    Happy days…
(Never stopped riding. Currently running an old S4 Ducati and a ZZR1400.)
