      I think Russia is a great country with a lot of potential and he dreamed of a democratic Russia, which is focusing on it‘s economy. But a regime like Putins is not for Russians or Russia anymore, but for a small elite, that is obsessed with their power. The sad thing is, they will loose a lot of smart young people, because all people that criticise the regime have to flee the country or get jailed or worse.

      Nato ( James Baker ) promised in 1990 they would not expand to the east. The did. Russia is surrounded by American and Nato soldiers and military bases. Nato and America were behind the coup in 2014 in Ukraine. So now they also want Ukraine, the backyard of Russia. Like Noam Chomsky said ; ' No Russian president would allow Ukraine to join a hostile military alliance'. Nato and America are agressors. America bombed Vietnam, Korea, Laos, Cambodia, Chili, Salvador, Nicaragua , Guatemala, Panama, Brasil, Indonesia, Iraq, Afghanistan, Syria, Libya, Yemen, Somalia etc. Obama bombed 23 countries with drones. America used chemical weapons in Vietnam ( Agent Orange and Napalm ), and in Iraq ( depleted uranium in Fallujah, google Fallujah babies ). America did 40 regime changes in the world. Operation Condor, Operation Mongoose ,Operation Northwoods etc. America was behind the coup in Ukraine in 2014. America financed , armed and trained neo-nazi's of the Azov Battalion and C14 Ukraine. Just like they trained and financed the Taliban in Afghanistan to fight the Russians. America armed and trained ISIS according to the American General Michael Flynn. Since 2014 the Azov Battalion and C14 Ukraine are killing Russians in Ukraine. Zelensky is in the Pandora Papers, jailed many critics, banned Russian language and culture and closed 3 tv stations. They don't care about the people in Ukraine. It is all about the expansion of Nato and making billions with the military industrial complex ,and 'weakening' the 'enemy' Russia. Not to mention that the fallout of this would have a profound economic impact on these countries, which would ripple into world economics as well.

You can’t just say oh well bad luck to that. They must have a suitable replacement ready first.
      Think about the chaos when the Texas electric grid went down last year. That lasted 17 days and killed up to 700 people. Now imagine that lasting 3 months, or longer if it’s a very cold winter, in densely populated cities. Lots of them. Tens of thousands would die.

    The smart embargo is an interesting idea. On the face of it, you would imagine that it simply wouldn’t work. You tell the Russians that you’ll continue paying for their oil & gas, but the money is going into an escrow account that doesn’t release any funds until Russian troops withdraw from Ukraine. Surely the Russians would just say “no, that violates our agreement” and turn off the supply? Well, probably - but maybe not. Who else are they going to sell to? Would it put yet more pressure on Putin to end this nonsense? “Dude, we have a billion dollars a day accumulating but we can’t touch it until this war is over….” I don’t know. Who knows how Putin thinks? And Europe would have to be ready to transition completely away from Russian energy, because there is every chance they’ll just turn it off.

    • @robertlock622
      @robertlock622 2 роки тому +2

      Turning off the supply is not necessarily very simple for Russia, and could be very expensive in terms of replacing capital equipment when they come to turn it back on. Also they are very dependent on western companies for oil services, so if they turn the supply off they may be un-able to turn it back on without Western help. They might be persuaded to continue supply while some of the revenue entered an escrow account (at least potentially the operating profit proportion). Would be worth a try.

      Yes, absolutely. One can imagine how rich and powerful a EU with Russia included would be.
      EU as it is already is capable of being a superpower, if the pieces are put together correctly.
      However - a EU with Russia, Ukraine etc as member states would not just be one of the superpowers, it would be the absolute number one superpower on the planet.
      If this war wouldn't have happened - Ukraine joining before Russia could have been one of the steps for Russia to join.
      Probably if Ukraine joins we'd already make russian one of the EU languages - so after that whats more logical than for Russia to join next after their "little brother" nation already went ahead and joined - and their language is already a working language of EU?
      Unfortunately, with this Invasion all of that went to hell. Ukrainians are suffering horribly, Russians also got it fairly bad (and for them it will just get worse from here), even EU is having some losses from it.
      And after this, Russia will basically become a client state of China.
      So in the end, the Chinese are the only ones gaining something from this.
