  • With the age that we live in today, screens are everywhere. They're a part of our work, our social lives, and our relaxation time.
While screen time can be difficult to avoid altogether, it's important that we take the time to understand the damage they have on our brains.
Too much screen time can dysregulate our brains and cause us to feel anxious, depressed, and stressed. In order to combat screen time, it's important to maintain a balanced life.
Whether you take consistent breaks throughout your work day, you limit mindless scrolling to 15 minutes, or you focus on finding more productive ways to use the screen, it's essential that we implement a balance.
If you are interested in a way you can use screen time to heal your brain from mental health issues, check out these programs:

I relasped last week after nearly 6 months of abstaining because of sexual media and too much screen time in down times. I literally watched your video few days before it happened and I felt like I had an new understanding. Now I do not use my phone at all for down time and I have restricted myself to only using my phone for answering calls and text messages. I use my kindle for when I want to unwind. When I think back and look at my journal I knew this was main cause for my previous relapses. I feel confident to try again and this time I truly believe with Gods help and great people like Dr Trish Leigh I will overcome this.

So you slipped up one day out of 180 days. Seems like a win to me. Keep it going

@@ewljr Yep, everyone's interpretation of a slip is different but for sure this would not be a reset.

@@amitvishwakarma4589 What I'm doing now is no screen time. Instead of tracking my streaks of relapsing, I now track my screen time because relapsing is the end result of the root problem which is a overstimulated mind. So now I am having a streak of no social media on my phone and its been 13 days now. So far I have been the most productive in my life and now I do not have as much brain fog.

Any recommendations for software developers who have to stare at a screen for 8+ hours a day?
    My first thoughts are:
Spending more time writing/designing solutions on paper. Even printing off a daily task (Jira ticket), rather than staring at it on screen.
I know it's not good for me, and probably a huge reason why I actually enjoy my job most of the time.
    -------------------------
    (less important side question)
A good chunk of our day is spent reviewing other people's code ("MR reviews")
I've debated using a large color (non-LCD) E-reader for this, as a way to decrease screen time in a sense.
Do you think using an e-reader for code reviews, yields much benefit compared to just doing it on your computer?
(Any benefits outside of the obvious, which is, you can't flip to other apps etc while using e-readers, you can only really focus on one task)
Or are the benefits so low, that it's not worth spending the time to get MR reviews set up on an E-reader?

Dr. Trish Leigh, I was wondering what you think about ASMR and does it have any effect on our brain?

Hi Trish, I’m working in producing music on my laptop.. I’m working with the sounds, is it also problematic as the screen? Or taking a break after each 30 minutes can be fine!?

Are there any studies on the effects on how videos affect the brain? Because it sounds damaging to the brain when you’re watching videos that have 30-60 frames per second or sometimes even more I think. Thanks for your help

Dr. Trish Leigh, I get erection only while doing pelvic floor exercise otherwise no erection at all, also i m unable to imagine a girl sexually in my mind, its my day 38(nofap streak) and this is continued from day 0.
Day 1-10: Flatline symptoms; zero libido, no erections, no morning wood.
Day 11-22: Gradual improvement with weak erections, slight attraction towards women, started Kegel exercises.
Day 23-25: Fluctuating symptoms; intense feeling to fap(but no urges, its just a feeling that all semen will come out), weak erections, temporary relief from the feeling to fap after urination.
Day 26-35: Regular morning wood but delayed and weak, little urges without significant reactions, fluctuating libido.
Day 38: Nightfall with weak erection.
