Since 5 years ago i was in medical school. You were my source of references and my teacher. Now im a doctor. Im still looking at your lectures. May God bless you
we would have loved a little notice on the physiology of contraception and how these methods affect the hormonal axis and thus prevent conception. but thanks Dr Paul you are the best.
Thank you for your video. I have a question/comment about your comment regarding OCPs and migraines at 25:00. You said that OCPs "worsen migraines" and therefore are relatively contraindicated. However, I think an important additional reason for the relative contraindication of OCPs in the setting of migraines is that OCPs increase the risk for stroke in women who have migraines with aura. I suspect that is more likely to appear on licensing exams.
In the UK they never ask about the aura - its literally if you have a migraine, no pill ever! Its annoying they dont understand the guidelines correctly
Keep up the good work, Sir !!! What you are doing is exceptional service to humanity. I am a medical student from Mumbai, India. & your videos are helping me a lot in my licensing exam preparation. Thank you & Warm regards.
Really helpful video -- thank you! At 2:24, you said that the patch is progestin only; typically the patch is a combination of ethinyl estradiol (estrogen) and norelgestromin (progestin). You do say later on in your video that the patch is combined.
Hi, can anyone help me to answer this ... and if possible explain... All the answers seem right to me!!!!!!!!!! Q. Which of the following is an absolute contraindication for OCP use? a) Migraine with hemiplegic aura b) Smoking c) Varicose veins d) Diabetes mellitus e) Gall bladder disease
Thank you, great as usual but usually the Ortho Evra patch is replaced weekly for 3 weeks then 1 week free interval to allow withdrawal bleed to happen.
I had my mirena removed three months ago after about 6 years, and went to get a new one today. They said my cervix is too small now for a new one and it may be due to scar tissue from my removal. Should I get a second opinion? Is this something that can actually happen, in your experience? I looked it up and didn't find any information about it. I may also be ovulating, and I read that makes the cervix smaller. I was devastated to get this news. Mirena is the only thing that has really worked for me.
Hey, I am Catholic too! I still have to learn this stuff for a test even though I don't even administer contraception myself. Thanks for mentioning your faith.
thank you for the fantastic review. You have mentioned at the beginning of the video that you would talk about NFP, but I reckon the video finishes before that. Is there another video where you cover that?
Hi Dr. Bolin! Thanks for the lecture! One very common question asked in licensing exams is something along the lines of a patient forgetting to take her OCP for a period of time and what the appropriate advice is. What is the general rule to remember?
Contraception is evil, and I can't believe women fall for it. It allows men to use women as sexual toys (in "hooking up" / in adultery / in pornography / in not committing, etc.,). And....women's happiness is at an all-time low. Great job.

a) Migraine with hemiplegic aura
b) Smoking
c) Varicose veins
d) Diabetes mellitus
e) Gall bladder disease
Migraine with aura is an aboslute contraindiaction, conocmitant use of OC in migraine with aura would lead to ischemic stroke.
the key to the question is the word "absolute" :)
