Nice video- love those advices man ❤ Just reached blue belt and in my mind I am already focusing on how and when to reach purple instead of letting go and enjoying the moment. I guess I am not yet mentally there 😂 I will keep working on it tho
white belts quit because jiu jitsu is hard. Blue belts quit because to them it's not really that hard to do hard things for a year or two (which is why they got to blue) but it's even harder to stay committed to doing hard things for more than a couple years. Often people at white and blue rely on motivation to continue training. People who make it to brown belt and black belt do so because they have the ability to remain disciplined instead of relying on motivation.
We trained with leoandro lo when i was a whitebelt and my black belt instructor blew my mind when he said the skill gap between a me 3 month white belt and my instructor is less than the gap between the blackbelt instructor and leandro lo. Thats the mentality i think that makes you great.
Amazing you got to train with Leandro Lo! I had the opportunity a few years back in San Diego, but my flight was leaving too soon. I missed out. Still sad about his passing.
There's def different levels at each belt. Trained with quite a few world champs and went to a bjj seminar with Jacare, long time ago, but it was at a judo school. He did judo at the end of seminar and tossed every black belt like they were new. The gap was so obvious.
Mmmm humble pie. Kinda sick of it tbh. Can we have some other pie today?
lol fair enough!

That observation of discipline vs motivation is so good, and so true
Good point
blue is just the initiation to bjj
Definitely. Is it also the marker where someone decides if they are in it for the long haul?
