    Thank you for your content. I'm new at gardening and am learning so much from your information. I am growing Cherokee purple for the first time and it's doing exactly what you said. The plant is only about a foot tall and a cluster of flowers and tomatoes are forming on the top of the main stem. I don't know if it will keep growing due to this reason. I am single stemming the plant so I wonder if I should wait for a sucker to grow and let it become a new leader. Any advice? I know your video is 3 years ago but I do hope you will be able to answer my question. Thank you.

    • @PepplesPotager
      @PepplesPotager  Рік тому +1

    • @PepplesPotager

    • @benjamindees
      @benjamindees 9 місяців тому +1

      Tomatoes need to be hardened-off before transplanting. I also put shade cloth over my Cherokee Purples for a couple of weeks after planting, though it depends on your climate and it seems I might be the only one who does that.

    • @PepplesPotager
      @PepplesPotager  3 роки тому +6

      No. Once tomatoes start changing color they are as sweet as they're going to be when they fully ripen. The plant stops feeding nutrients to the tomato when it starts to ripen. Vine ripened tomatoes are a myth. Little to no difference in taste if left on the vine. Although some will say otherwise. Guess it's a matter opinion or taste. Everyone's different. Dude.....that tomato is a MUTANT tomato....lol
    Do you live near a nuclear plant? Lol
    And does that tomatoes holes have bite marks or do you have a calcium deficiency? Use a crushed up Tums on those with dry holes, to prevent anymore of that occurring.
    And what they taste like? Juicy or dry flesh? Sweet or bitter? Hard skin or easily cut?

    • @PepplesPotager
      @PepplesPotager  4 роки тому +3

      No I don't live near a nuclear power plant lol. These are both old heirloom varieties that are prone to megablooms which are clusters of tomatoes flowers that merged together. They can form some crazy looking tomatoes though and holes where megablooms merged. The Cherokee Purple are the best tasting tomato I've ever had. Sweet and smoky flavor very juicy. And a All American Selection winner. The Mortgage Lifter is a nice old fashioned sweet tomato known for very large tomatoes some even up to 4lbs.
