    I love learning from people that have been doing this for a long time! You also learned from your elders who did this as like it was just the natural way of life.
    Thank you!

    Beautiful garden. You're the first tomato grower I've seen who made their cages out of concrete reinforcement wire. I made 100 concrete reinforcement wire cages (twice the diameter of yours) 25 years ago. Cherokee Purple is my favorite heirloom.

      We love our Cherokee Purples. We especially love to dry them. Some of my cages were my grandmothers. They are over 50 yrs old.

    Joel you're so right about going with natural twine. I like the way you start at daylight and work until it gets hot, then head to the shade of the shop.

    Are Purple Cherokees known for branch twisting, i got one plant with some moderate branch twisting, but no signs of disease or wilting. I don't know the exact type of tomato it is, got a mix packet of 5 different indeterminate varieties, all under the same conditions, nutrients, and watering schedules. But out of the 8 plants, that plant is the only one twisting. I even applied some liquid calcium to the plants with no changes.

      They grow every which way. Get about 11 ft long. Takes a big cage. Mine have twisted but still bore great huge fruit.

      I love the sounds too. I think I might do just a video on the sounds outside my window at daylight.

    Why do you let the morning glory grow in your tomatoes?

    • @CollegeHillFarm
      @CollegeHillFarm  Місяць тому

      By the time the tomatoes are big they outcompete the morning glories anyway. Also it is better to just let them grow once in there than to kill them at the root and allow the vines to stay and die. Besides, I think the are pretty in the fall of the year when they are all bloomed out.

    Twine is too expensive, I use a roll of yarn, the kind women knit with tough, durable and cheap

    You need to prune those up.

      I never prune. Too much trouble to get less tomatoes.
