Love me some crawfishing! I think UA-camrs always like to think we are inspiring other people, but I think one of the greatest things about being a UA-camr is that making videos inspires us to get out and try new things ourselves!
Both of you guys do inspire me. I hope you know that. I binge watch both of your videos and i’m getting my first fishing rod for my birthday next week! thanks for lifting me up when i’m down
I have a similar story! I lived in Yakima WA which is in the desert which means the winters are brutal. My roommate and I went out hunting about a half hour from town up the mountain pass where we had previously gone foraging. It was an abnormally cold October but while we we walking around we found a man camping in a pretty remote campsite up at the top of the pass. He had his geo tracker pulled up, several tents, a makeshift table, and a furnace. It was clear that he planned on living there for a while and when we waved at him as he chopped wood he seemed like a friendly younger guy. That day that we were hunting was actually the first snowfall of the season and we couldn’t imagine camping out there even for just a night. Fast forward a couple weeks and the snow is many feet high up there and the pass is completely closed. We totally forgot about the guy until we went back up there in the spring (this last spring) after the snow melted to look for some mushrooms. We doubted that his stuff would still be there but we were absolutely shocked when we turned the corner. His truck was in the same exact spot, all of his tents were collapsed and soaking wet with his tools and camping gear still inside. His food was strung out all over the forest floor, obviously pillaged by the bears and raccoons. It was clear that that man took absolutely nothing with him (if he did indeed leave the mountain) because there was some valuable gear left behind (not to mention the car). We found a library card in the geo but it was too weathered to read. We took plenty of pictures and turned the info over to our search and rescue friend from church. Within a week or two the campsite was cleared out and we never heard if they found out what happened to the guy. We hope that he just got a lift out of there by a friend and never claimed his gear because there was cougar and bear sign all over that part of the pass. I hope you see this story @fishermanslife
@@FishermansLife I know man! I just reached out to my church friend to see if he’s got any new info on it. In the foraging scene we always say it‘a people you gotta watch out for. Not the bears. Stay safe brother!
It gets real out there. Amazon prime video has a movie called "missing 411" and after watching I realized that the woods/ Forrest is something to really take serious and respect. The movie is basically about people that have wound up missing in the woods with no explanation. Some were even found and morticians were unable to determine cause of death. That “gut instinct” is very real. It’s something we’ve adapted to learn for centuries. Our ancestors used this instinct to avoid being eaten by lions. We use it today to avoid getting robbed.
I was driving through the freeway once and for some reason I looked on the other side and saw a stranded truck hauling a trailer the guy was walking on the side of the driver side, didn't think much of it so I kept driving home, that same night I was scrolling through Fb when I saw a local news picture and told myself "that truck looks familiar" then I was like "holy shit that's the same truck!" Even though I never met the guy, the idea of anything can happen to you in an instant really stuck with me ever since, Matts is right you have to enjoy life now and not postpone it

As always Matts, great video and what a missing person recovery story. Those Crawdads looked amazing! I'm curious if that missing person they recovered was a result of foul play or did this guy get lost? I have to agree 100% with you, follow your gut feeling or intuitions, whatever you want to call it. You certainly helped the family of that missing person bring closure to their lives. Whatever the case, I'm glad to see you are better prepared for any hostile situation. As always, stay safe out there and I always look forward to your next adventure!
I'm a firm believer in 6th sense. It may be something we have dulled because of our "civilized" way of life. I've been meaning to do a similar trip to what you did, just need to get out there while I still can.
your senses actually pull in a lot of information, but your brain automatically filters it out because otherwise, you'd be overwhelmed. My theory is through built in instinct or built up experience, certain combos of info your senses took in, some part of your brain makes connections and warn you about something seeming "off", that "gut feeling". It'd make sense from a survival point of view, keeps you on your toes without you needing to think about it so you gtfo and not risk being eaten.
It has been a while since I have come back to watch some of your videos and I am really enjoying the new style of editing!! Especially the sound effects @8:40 when catching the crawfish and the camera movements while you were slipping. It is good to be back !!
Bro from your story, to seeing you carrying a pistol, and just your demeanor… this video made my heart really really happy, I’m glad you’re protecting yourself, and that story man that was eerie but kinda cool as well as scary…. But dude your videos are so awesome I hope one day I can fish with you
Fishing isy favorite thing to do. Ever. I feel you on the whole "life is hectic" thing. I lost my brother back in April right after my birthday. Then in June I lost my best friend, Bleu. My service dog of 10 years. Trying to cope with that plus moving to another state, my mother passes in August then grandma passed away just on Sunday. I would go fishing with mom all the time. Took her back in March and she caught a nice size catfish. I have been longing to get back out there. I just want to get away for 3 or 4 days out in the woods fishing and in my own sense of being. There is truly something spiritual about it. Even if I'm not catching nothing, that moment is everything. I love your videos and have been watching for years. Bleu watched them with me lol. Keep catching em brother!
Wow sorry to hear about that all. That's a lot to deal with in such a short period of time. Wishing you the best and hoping you're doing well!!! I need to make another solo trip out there again!
Glad you picked up that Glock man! It’s always better to be prepared, and you’re right, sometimes it’s the two legged creatures you need to worry about. Can’t wait to see the next episode 🤘🏽
I remember as a kid going with my buddy JD and his family to the rice farms in Dixon. We'd literally fill a few barrel drums full of them. And they get BIG! You go in barefoot because it's all mud, but after a while you lose that fear of being pinched and you're just filing your bucket. It was a mad good time. I don't know if anyone does that anymore but I'll never forget.
I think you summed up why I like your videos so much about why you like going out in nature. It's an escape from the city life, from the stress and hustle and bustle of it. A place to breath, a place to think, a place to enjoy nature. But also, the random new experience that life's boat sails you to. Probably during the midst of COVID that's when I really loved your videos haha. I'm liking the knowledge you give about where you are Watching your videos lets us experience a simpler life, a "Fisherman's life".
Love the mountain videos. Also some solid advice with a great story to back it up. You have some balls going back past that spot again, especially solo (well maybe not completely solo, since the glock is coming along haha)
Love Kid Cudi! Friends and family have always told me to worry more about two legged creatures. Having said that I spend a lot of time in the mountains hunting and every year I come across bears and or cougars. Having a gun gives me and my loved ones at home a sense of security. Great video and super crazy story!
Brings back memories of catching crawfish on the Umpqua tributaries. We just used a little stick, but after a few hours had enough for a good meal around the campfire. Good times.
Anyone else notice Matts is pretty pro at driving with his knees! had the crawfish bag in one hand, go pro in the other!! nice! and On back roads with no other cars, so no danger.
So awesome! I was on a river canoe trip last month in Wisconsin. Crayfish everywhere but they were 1/4 of the size of those bad boys! As for the lack of fish in your spot, I'm betting those massive crayfish are eating all the fish eggs.
Now I wanna go camp/catch and cook .never tried before but honestly this inspired me . Loving these kinds of videos, especially a little spooky edd with your story Gave me chills . Keep them coming Matt !!!
My husband LIVES for hunting season (deer and bear). We live further up north in Nor Cal and in our 18 years of marriage (with 3 boys) I've always encouraged him to go. He once spent almost a month out there in the forests. I do worry about him since there's no reception but he comes back so at peace and happy. He, in turn, is always fine with me going on my girl trips to Napa or Reno or Tahoe with friends.
About 3 years ago, I went out fishing in East Java (Indonesia), I walked the shore for a mile or two, I found no good spot tho. But I found strange items: a bra and pair of slippers (they looked new), a bag with cellphone and some clothes in it. Then I looked around just curious, since the spot was very remote and no people with the right mind would go there, guess what I found.. A huge nest, it was like a bird nest but HUGE, it was above the ground, a meter and half from the ground and about 3 and half meter in diameter, there were a lot of droppings (some medium size animal's poo probably, could be a mongoose, mountain tiger or else I dk), I didn't go deeper into the woods tho, I got goosebump! I went back to the shore right away, packed up my stuff and took off. I probably should've went ahead to the woods and find out what was going on, I am still curious till now. But, who would go to a dark forest of tropical Indonesia anyway.
And btw i really enjoyed this episode, it was set up with the storytelling and actual video with perfection. Good job and thank you for the great content!🤙
It was this type of video that made me start following you in the first place as these were always my favorite kinds of trips to take. Venture way out to the middle of nowhere, only eat what you catch. Love it!
Those craws are giant but a couple months ago I was fishing this canal that had monster snook and I had my camera setup on a bucket with poncho over the top of it. As I was walking down near where I saw the snook last this dude came out of the cut where the apartments opened up and as I was fishing he was on his phone the entire time and kept looking back at me but I could just sense he was scheming so I dipped. No reason to chance and another time I was fishing another canal and this lil kid crosses the road and I’m watching him as I load my cast net, he b lines it to checkout my rods and I’m probably 20ft away so I start walking over but I recognized the way he was looking and could tell he was thinking and so I started talking to him to distract him from thinking about how he’s gonna try and steal/run off with my rods and eventually I got close enough to pick my rods up. Moral of the story is though definitely trust your gut. You only have control over yourself, you don’t know what other people are scheming.
Similar thing happened to me, went to a fishing spot. Some dude in a beat up truck came out his truck and started being TOO friendly. Fished the spot for about 20 mins(it was sundown) and seen the dude pointed his flashlight at me. Didnt like that and had that gut feeling so i hurried back to my car. He tried to small talk me and i didnt like it got in my car and he left asap. Next day i see my cars leaking gas, realized dude cut my filler hose and tried to steal gas
That cray fishing was so Awesome, looked like fun and I bet they tasted delicious !. That story was crazy scary, glad to see you protecting yourself. Looking forward to some more great content, Thanks for taking us with you 😍🎣✨👍

@@agherisyoutube1269 I don’t know where you’re from but the USA has a huge amount of wilderness which often attracts a people you don’t want to meet. When camping or backpacking alone I always carry. Not so long ago 2 people were attacked on the Appalachian trail near my house by a guy with a machete. Only one of them was able to escape.
The poo vein in crawfish is connected to the center tail plate, just crack it gently up and down and pull the vein out. It's so much cleaner and leaves you with more meat
lol The first crawdad I caught was in about '72 using bacon on a bobber (8-9 y/o) in a public park's pond and it pinch the heck out.... Gimme a break, I was just a kid. Never did develop a taste for eating them. Decent bait, though, and learned that there were some earnings for catching them. Made a kid's bit of money selling to the bait shop for more sinkers, swivels, etc. As far as missing persons go, there were a couple people who went missing in front of the dam in Ottumwa, Iowa over a period of about 12 years +/_. Never recovered.
Great Video. Great Content. The Chef could use a few tips though. I'st if you're bringing an onion you might as well dice it at home. As for the potatoes you'd be surprised how excellent the diced precooked canned ones are. We'd use the 'taters with venison and lobster and/or fishes. I live on the east coast of New England . . Lots of terrain and ocean . I'm 63 now. Since I was about 12 yrs old I would fish & forage Very important tip on the crayfish is to steam them 1st. Then clean them setting the meat aside. Then throw the shells back in the water you steamed them to death with and cook the light meat and flavor off the shells. You can then add the onions and 'taters and cleaned meat all together and let them simmer. Believe me brother it makes a difference. As for your technique of fishing for the Craw Dads I loved it. There were so many . You could eat that same nutritious and delicious meal every day for a week and barely make a dent in the population. You could bring them some scrap vittles from home to pay back what you take. Be sure to throw all the scraps and gut from the cleaned dinner specimens The way you did it up there dude is the way God or The Great Spirit wants us all to live. PS ... don't tell everyone else where this spot is or it will be decimated in short order.
been watching your videos for what feels like 2 years, hope whatever your goin through gets better soon. keep on keepin on (went back to double check, its actually been 4 years.... when you stopped posting because of your ankle + covid made time fly)

@@FishermansLife ❤️😁
Matts, I know exactly where you are/were but I won't say. Beautiful area and country!
I googled it and found out, pretty easy based on the info. Beautiful area.
i do to, once i saw the hills i was like "wait a minute, this looks like home" lol
Man I feel that. Getting outdoors is a huge stress relief for me. Stressed out all day in the city life but getting out there is some serious therapy.
Glad you picked up that Glock man! It’s always better to be prepared, and you’re right, sometimes it’s the two legged creatures you need to worry about. Can’t wait to see the next episode 🤘🏽
I started following your channel to pick up tips for when I go to the coast. Now you've come to my neck of the state! Safe travels and tight lines
Kudos on the wisdom you dropped at the beginning. The Fisherman's Life is the contented life. And dude, that underwater fishing is crazy cool!
I've been watching for years and I gotta say, you have good taste in music.
Rewatching this again cus i just love these catch, cook, and camp videos. Can’t wait for the next vid! ❤️
Matt's appreciates his alone time. I'm not mad.
Yo Matts, loving these self reflection type videos you've been putting out lately. Keep it up bro!
Love that Glock and it's nice to always be prepared.
Hey man, this was an absolute treat to watch! It was so nice being able to see you have some fun like this thanks for sharing man.
The crayfishing looked like so much fun. They do love bacon. I literally learned that in a college course. 😄
Hunting, Fishing, Hiking best therapy ever. Totally agree and live by it.
We always bring a gun. We don’t even have bears. It’s the people you never know
I think you summed up why I like your videos so much about why you like going out in nature.
It's an escape from the city life, from the stress and hustle and bustle of it. A place to breath, a place to think, a place to enjoy nature. But also, the random new experience that life's boat sails you to. Probably during the midst of COVID that's when I really loved your videos haha.
I'm liking the knowledge you give about where you are
Watching your videos lets us experience a simpler life, a "Fisherman's life".
Love the mountain videos. Also some solid advice with a great story to back it up. You have some balls going back past that spot again, especially solo (well maybe not completely solo, since the glock is coming along haha)
Always! Thanks so much for sharing! Hope your Mom is feeling better! Take care! Fishing good for the soul!

My wife and kids love to come with me for fishing, or any outdoor activities that get us out of the city. I’m a lucky man. 😁👍
Could only hope for that day to happen to me, happy for ya bro.
7:28 i can feel that from bottom your heart happy , keep going , keep doing this ,support forever
My husband always lets me go out whenever I want by myself to go fishing and clamming. It really puts my mind at rest and let’s me recharge :)
Now I wanna go camp/catch and cook .never tried before but honestly this inspired me . Loving these kinds of videos, especially a little spooky edd with your story
Gave me chills .
Keep them coming Matt !!!
Those crayfish looked big but Taku still has you beat, Bro. He caught one the size of a lobster!
But, who would go to a dark forest of tropical Indonesia anyway.
are u saying a dinosaur bird might have ate a person?
well that cheered me up.. /s

And btw i really enjoyed this episode, it was set up with the storytelling and actual video with perfection. Good job and thank you for the great content!🤙
Thanks for another amazing video daddy 😔🙏
It was this type of video that made me start following you in the first place as these were always my favorite kinds of trips to take. Venture way out to the middle of nowhere, only eat what you catch. Love it!
Yesssssssss!! Thanks for posting and I love Kid Cudi as well
Pursuit of happiness to start the video out. I knew you were a man of culture 👌🏽

Looking forward to some more great content, Thanks for taking us with you 😍🎣✨👍
Helped solved a missing 411 bro! Be safe out there, especially on the solo trips! More videos like this please!
I don’t rly get that part. Did he help solve a crime investigation or something?
@@douglaslin691 The person went missing and he helped give a lead to the area to search in since they had none before.

yo im glad your still making vids bro been watchin for years now still good wholesome content
Love the glock. Always smart to stay armed when out alone on your own.
I'm not against weapons at all but at the same time I do have to say that I feel sorry that you guys live in a place where it's necessary to be armed when being out alone.
Agheris UA-cam in the woods it’s more for 4 legged predators
@@thatonehead I see, that makes sense
@@agherisyoutube1269 I don’t know where you’re from but the USA has a huge amount of wilderness which often attracts a people you don’t want to meet. When camping or backpacking alone I always carry. Not so long ago 2 people were attacked on the Appalachian trail near my house by a guy with a machete. Only one of them was able to escape.
@@iansmith8944 Jason swinging his machete
The poo vein in crawfish is connected to the center tail plate, just crack it gently up and down and pull the vein out. It's so much cleaner and leaves you with more meat
That had to be the easiest crayfish catch I've ever seen.
Congrats on the glock 20. 10mm is a helluva round.
Is it hard to get a license to carry? I like shooting guns but never owned one. Planning to do some solo fishing soon and want a little piece of mind.
@@DrinkWetPoopFishing In the US? no problems, at most a background check and a couple of days of waiting period, but a lot of times, not even that.

@@nirrules1 good thing i dont need real soon. are we talking about a couple of months?
Nice to see that you are finally strapped to safeguard yourself and any companions.
lol The first crawdad I caught was in about '72 using bacon on a bobber (8-9 y/o) in a public park's pond and it pinch the heck out....
Really enjoyed this video!!!! Thank you for sharing your PASSION !!!
been watching your videos for what feels like 2 years, hope whatever your goin through gets better soon. keep on keepin on (went back to double check, its actually been 4 years.... when you stopped posting because of your ankle + covid made time fly)
i have enjoyed your videos for years man. super happy for you and keep on doing what youre doing i really appreciate the content. best of luck
Nice going! You found the elusive freshwater Land Lobster nursery!!
We didn’t see any trout this past summer either. But I did land a nice small mouth there doing the exact same thing back in August. The water temp and level was perfect. Nice catch!
Trout season is winter season my brother 🤙🏻try maybe November or December
Bro.... I couldn't stop smiling, thanks for that. I really needed that.
Thank you! One of few UA-camrs who do outdoors video that actually Carry a gun with them. You and ace and his brother are the very few I’ve seen. Good to be safe
Brooo this was the coolest video ever. I've never seen someone do actual underwater fishing. That's awesome
I love the little sound effects when you caught each crawfish😁
Those crawfish are huge. Well done. Looks like you had a great time
I was living in NYC in 2001. I randomly felt like I needed to get out of the city and out into the woods. I got a couple friends together and we piled into my van to see family in the white mountains of NH on September 10th. No joke. I was a bike messenger at the time I was inside the world trade center once every week or two. Always..always follow your gut and always get out of the city when you feel like you need it.
the crawfish scavenge looked fun! the missing person story on the other hand... that's quite the shocker.. gotta trust the instincts..
Hey Matt, "y'all" must be from the south! LOL, great job catching those crawdads!
