    Don't forget that massive polluters are the biggest problem so the best thing you can do is advocate for them to stop polluting. From OxFam: "The richest 1% (77 million people) were responsible for 16% of global consumption emissions in 2019-more than all car and road transport emissions. The richest 10% accounted for half (50%) of emissions."

      Considering most grown Americans (worldwide top 10% richest is considered $93k net worth) fit into this category, how would it work to basically shut down an entire country in order to combat climate change?

    The phrase that made me feel less anxious was "do what you can and advocate for changes that allow the rest.".
    voting in those who WILL do changes is the most important part of all of this.

    She's right. Doing something is better than doing nothing. Not procreating is the best place to start. At least not until we make some major progress concerning climate change, the environment, and the justice system. Besides practicing antinatalism, the less money we put in the elitists pockets the better. Whether it be stop driving/flying, drive/fly less, be vegan or vegetarian, eat less meat, go organic/NONGMO/non palm oil, vote for climate aware politicians, ect... We have to be willing to make some sacrifices for the greater good. For a future we won't be a part of. We have to be that empathetic.

    Switching to a plant based diet is a curious omission from the list. We eat three times a day. Not having animal products on our plate, which are absurdly land, water usage, and omission intensive is a huge deal!

      @@MrTheoptimiser Yes indeed..My daughter went to an animal farm and fell in love with a baby calf. She came home and told me she never wanted to eat meat again. The cruelty is sickening. We always ate very little meat anyway, but now we have cut it all out. I used to think there would be nothing wrong with eggs and milk though but now I realize what a big impact those industries have on the environment . And the animals that give us the milk and eggs suffer anyway, poor chickens spend their whole lives locked in boxes, it is just terrible.

    • @steffenjensen422
      @steffenjensen422 6 місяців тому

      While all of these are of course great and do help the environment in general, I want to point out that none of these are directly related to climate change.
      Climate change is about CO2, trash in the ocean and lack of recycling are completely different environmental problems.
      Even planting trees is not really relevant to the climate, absorbing ~25kg per year (probably), but only as long it's growing and that means the average American would need to plant over 500 trees.
      Trees are still good for a number of reasons and they do something for sure, but the main focus right now has to be on removing the CO2 sources, coal, oil and gas.

    Please have one less child (if you plan to have two, have one) or don't have children if it is not something you can't live without. One less person is a bigger impact than all the composting, recycling, solar panels, that I and others do. It's not politically correct but having fewer people is the most efficient impactful thing we can do

  • @steffenjensen422
    @steffenjensen422 6 місяців тому

    Great video!
    I feel like the "You can't do anything"-mindset is often a self-serving lie in order to not feel bad for not doing anything.
    But you can do something!
    There is two versions, the "you can't do anything at all", which is just completely wrong and also the "you can't do anything but activism" which is very popular in some young leftist circles but also completely wrong.
    If you have the resources to do activism, you most likely also have the resources to change your personal behavior.
    This video is perfect in telling that everyone can help by BOTH changing their own behavior AND voting/activism to change the broader political landscape.
    And it doesn't have to be difficult. The three main CO2 sources are:
    1) Burning of coal (mostly for electricity)
    2) Burning of oil (mostly in form of gas for cars)
    3) Burning of natural gas (mostly for heating)
    YOU can curb this by
    1) Switching to renewable energy providers
    2) Taking bus, bike, train etc or switching to an EV (#1 applies with EVs, they have to be charged with renewable electricity)
    3) Heating less, for example through insulation, swapping to renewable heating (most likely a heat pump)
    If you read this comment and you can do any of these: Do them now!

    1:29 It’s not useless to do anything, it’s just so insignificant to the level of utterly uselessness and offset by whatever actually happened upstream at the source. In case you don’t understand, most people aren’t even capable of doing anything to improve, like 9/10 of all people, because they are already living in such constraints that so little they can change, actually most of them need even more just to survive properly. If you can do x amount to help, likely you are one of the 1% can do that.

      If you do nothing, nothing will change. We can blame big oil and other industries for climate change, but that doesn’t mean we can’t and shouldn’t do anything about it. There are so many things that the average person can do to reduce reliance on fossil fuels. The more people that do it, the more people will follow. We vote with our dollars. We as the consumer have more power than you think. And as mentioned in the video, these efforts can help promote change both directly and indirectly.

      @@rylans.5365 what I mean is we need to do something meaningful instead. You need to know what actually need to be done first. Given that even some scientists are misled, real science need to be in place. It’s out there already actually, it’s just so hard for fight for politicians’ attention to get anything done.
