- What if we could solve the climate and housing crises at the same time? Financial institutions have pledged trillions to transform the economy and accelerate climate action -- but right now, that money is not flowing at the speed it needs to, says sustainable investing expert Veronica Chau. Illuminating the links between climate change and affordable housing, she suggests a playbook of moves to start mobilizing big money and transform climate financing challenges into opportunities.

I was waiting for you to mention how much the U.S. government currently spends subsidizing fossil fuels...
Dude
It’s Opposite Day
I think it's most efficient in these kinds of spaces to narrow in on smaller topics that people can focus on to take action. But you're totally right...that's another way we need to be mobilizing our governments...
A good summary of arguments on how the private and public sector can be "motivated" to work on climate action. The focus on people needing to push them is placing the blame a little squarely on individuals though. Simultaniously to working on lobbying and placing out own assets in line with our morals, governments and certain cooperations have been profiting off exploiting the world, former colonies etc. and should re-invest some of these profits from places they have extracted them (Congo, Guatemala, Bangladesh). It cannot be squarely on the individuals to work and clean up the gread of the few (though it does play a part)
It’s all about the money. Companies and the government don’t care about climate change or about our opinion.
Individualsworking individually for their own interest will not solve this problem. That's what got us here.
Just another woke joke TED Talk, based on fantasy.
DON'T WASTE YOUR MONEY
@@1979nipa don't vote Democrat
I never knew anything about this!! Wow! Ideas worth sharing indeed
Naivity+Corporate Brainwashing Mixed with Ideology= this talk
💯
First mistake was trusting them "banks and investors"
Couldn't find this on podcasts?
Summary of talk: banks and their private equity holders that make their money by financing fossil fuels need tax payers to guarantee they won't lose money by investing in sustainable energy. No mention of divesting in the industries that are causing the problem.
Could it be they are owned by the same folks that want guarantees?
Convince your local politicians to change zoning laws somehow...so banks and investors get whatever they want(?) before they finance green, affordable housing?
Demand investors to change their portfolios to be sustainable before you give them your money
I'll keep my money, thank you very much. The government taxes too much of it and wastes it all.
So you never use police, fire department, roads, bridges, Medicare, Medicaid, unemployment, oh yeah and THE INTERNET???
Banking talking about issues exacerbated by the policies of banking thinking that more banking is the answer.
What money??
You think inflation and cost of living is high now: wait till you but these ideas mandatory through public policy.
And guess who’s getting most impacted: those people you are pre porting to help.
If this is such an obvious solution, you should have NO PROBLEM raising enough privacy funding.
If you can’t, that’s telling you something.
Maybe fossil fuel corporations could use their vast stores of money…..
I just commented on all this last night on Linked In.
In highschool I watched in biology class "The Inconvent Truth" where Al Gore said Florida would ne underwater by 2013. . .oh and he made billions from carbon credits
You act as if we have done nothing at all to prevent many catastrophes. Now look up what is happening to Indonesia. I wonder if you even care :)
Congratz to him, he saved Florida, dude!😂
And now coastal cities in Florida are flooding. What’s your point?
this is an insult to people who really are worried and doing something about climate change ....she talked for several minutes and she didnt say anything relevant. how is she in a ted talks blows my mind . humanity is doomed .
There are just too many people on our planet. But making babies is far too pleasant to ever fade in popularity.. These ideas have a better chance...
2023-24 winter is crazy warm. im finally worried

That was excellent, thank you for that. Inspirational.
What was so "excellent" about her talk?
@@emmeayoub Excellent, oh Excellent
Her hot delivery, so confident
On stage she shone so bright
A true inspiration, a sight
Her words flowed like a river
Each one carefully crafted and delivered
The audience held captive by her grace
A masterful performance, no one can replace
How to put this into words, you say?
A challenge, but I'll find a way
Her talent, like a fire, ablaze
Leaving all who watched, amazed
Excellent, oh Excellent
Her artistry, truly heaven-sent
My heart soars with admiration
For her unforgettable dedication

And how much money will be needed to keep fixing the climate in perpetuity Veronica? Since I'm sure you know the stellar evolution of the Sun has (always) been increasing 10% brightness per billion years and will continue this pace till it radically accelerates once it begins fusing helium
Hopefully in a billion years (if we are still around, lol) we will have figured out a lot more about ways to make cleaner energy. Also cleaner ways to manufacture, etc.
If not, then there's no hope anyway, lol.
Not that I'm agreeing with anything said in this presentation, I left after a minute as it sounded like it was going to turn into rah rah all the little people need to spend their money on this while all the rich people will get richer. XD
@@Geekabibble so this is a TEMPORARY "solution" how temporary? 5 years or 5000 years? and is the $4 trillion annual also temporary? Maybe if we move to hovels we could do better and spend $40 trillion annually? until HOPEFULLY something improves? You do realize tho meantime a solar flare of large enough magnitude and direction is unpredictable unstoppable and can wipe out a thousand years of human "climate correction" in a week?
@@janosmiko9465 I was just responding to your "Sun has (always) been increasing 10% brightness per billion years" comment.
As I said in my comment, I stopped watching the vid before a minute yadda yadda yadda. Not going to retype it all, lol.
Screw the climate hahah this country need helps. This world need helps.
Thank you 14*
If it was upto me I wouldn’t pay a penny towards politicians lying about how they can change the weather by .05% in 100 years time
There is a type of housing that doesn't require high rises. In fact packing lots of people into a small space correlates to increased crime and other factors.
Exactly, increasing investment for more growth is exactly the solution for overshoot.
Thank you for promoting fair housing.

The Planet Was Is and always will be habitable dear Girl
Not anymore
"Always will be habitable".... How are you so sure of that?
@@jamesjeffcoat2655 we can already see the effects of it on climate in form of , temperature rise leading to rising water level, emergence of infections, certain aquatic species dying, pollution rising deaths related. Soil depleting n many more!!
Just like Mars, and Venus? Please read more newer scientific studies. Thank you.
@@vmwindustries not like mars n venus but tolerating certain changes will be difficult as before
The climates have always changed. Nothing to fear. We all live and we all die. Life comes and life goes.FACTS.
In the 80s everyone was panicking about global cooling, now they are panicking about something else. Maybe you should stop and think deeply before spending money?
😊hi
ahahahhaah🤡🤡🤡🤡
First
Better use those money to solve economic inequality and give people who wish to have children opportunity for it. Retirement will be old myth soon if nothing will change. People are working 12 hr/7 day and barely making living. That's much bigger problem.
you should see when food prices go up because of climate change :)
Bemyart: that’s a problem. But climate change is going to make some parts of the world inhospitable to live and to grow food. Won’t need a job if there is no food. As she says. The issues are linked.
With whats been going on in this wold so far, sometimes I wonder if this world is worth saving.
Don’t worry about the money. This administration will simply print more.
HOW ABOUT NO?
Why?
Step 1) don’t
One difference I've noticed between the U.S. and Canada with regard to housing is the mortgage tax deduction in the U.S. results in the building of much bigger houses which require more resources -materials, labor and energy. The planet can no longer afford this status seeking nonsense. I'm encouraged by the tiny house movement which I plan to be a part of when I finally decide to settle down.
There is no shortage of resources or energy in the world. That’s completely fabricated by those who benefit from your fear.
2023(Gregorian) “Respect and dignity.” Furthermore:
You are kidding me, at enormously huge scale. Reality doesn't work this way as well as way of big corporations, major shareholders & most rich entrepreneurs. True (or "true", sort of) almost every time lays somewhere in the middle.
That afternoon sky was a bright blue
Cotton ball clouds cast a shadow hue
Slowly growing dark gray rain was due
Beach goers left saying nature does rule
Climate Change is cruel we added the fuel
Sustainable urban planning assumes a dual role, countering the heat island effect in densely populated areas while promoting eco-friendly living practices that optimize resource use and minimize environmental impact.
Haha is this satire? If yes, it is brilliant
Or maybe, just maybe we should drop capitalism and use a more just system, where everyone can afford a healthy and safe home
Delusional
Not drop it, but it does need to be changed and have some more regulations.
The very rich get richer and richer off the rest of the us. They are extremely selfish. Still building megahomes, mega-yachts, mega-jets etc while many people go without basic needs. And, the middle class gets smaller and has to tighten their belts. All so people who are disgustingly rich can have more money that they don't need.
I’m guessing you still live in your moms basement?
The first factor contributes to fight climate change is housing because solve one we can solve others
What does being Black and paying $250 more on electricity bills more than Whites have to do with anything? 😂
She said we got money to fix this we just don't got the TLC . Shucks
Step 1: don't buy apple products
Apple is generally better than their competitors.
Why?
@@mathilda_mahdiyeh better built so lasts longer. Recycling. More efficient production resulting in less waste.
Their products are built so well demand for physical products has been falling year over year for years. Not because people don’t want one, but because the one they have works fine and has for 5-10 years.
Spot on !
Lmfao absolutely delusional
You look beautiful now.
Well done
C.C.P. Propaganda, you surprised me ted, you fell for it.
The best way to fight climate change - don't get more than one kid!
False thinking on a number of levels. Primarily because most people in the world aren’t responsible for the pollution. Like 10% of the people in the world produce 80% of the pollution.
